While I'm not really liking the departure that these guys are taking from Undertale, I'm glad that people are going beyond the Game Maker Studio/Unitale format when it comes to fan games. Soundtrack is pretty legit tho.
I still find it kinda funny. From what I understand Toby's response was "iunno as long as you're not selling it for profit I guess" which apparently means "Toby fully supports it" or something.
Shame all that talent is going to waste though.

I'm gonna be the odd man out here, but I like AU's for Undertale, as long as theyre not poorly made shite. I don't see it as shitting on the original author's work, rather, showing affection of it by trying to expand it

I like AUs in general just for the fascinating possibilities that the Alternate Universes bring to the table. "What if" thoughts brought to life.
I really wanna see parallel/alternate universes and their handling in games more. Bioshock Infinite made it work, Undertale discussed it. Both were pretty well received.
I myself am also kind of hot for alternate realities and parallel universes. It's likely one of the reasons I'm still so very invested in Undertale, along with the myriad of other amiable, charming, hijinks-performing reasons.
And one tragically doomed reason that I wish could have their fate changed.
Also when it comes to BioShock Infinite, I just wish they did a lot more with the parallel universes thing, like maybe even have more glimpses of other "distinct" settings.
I'd be pretty cruel if I made a save [sp]asriel[/sp] alternate, and it would play on those so desperate for that ending that they'd give up their own soul to do it.
I'd only make it possible after doing a genocide run [sp]And since you now know how to give up your soul, in a pacifist run you can give it to asriel, preserving him. upon the realization that anime is infact real, they decided to dial it up to 11 and turn their entire fan project into an anime.
The biggest problem a lot of these AU's have is that they love to fuck around with the original work to the point where it isn't even recognizable anymore. They take liberties with just about everything, make huge assumptions to fill in small gaps (stories revolving around Sans have a huge problem with this), and end up making something so distant from the original that it might as well have been its own distinct story from the get-go.
If you want to base a story off of a previously established narrative, the very FIRST thing you need to make sure of is that you aren't stepping on the toes of that very narrative. You construct your story to be related but SEPARATE, keeping cameos to a tasteful minimum unless absolutely necessary, and at least studying the characters a bit to make them seem authentic to the original work.
For instance, what makes [sp]Sans a great character is that he has two sides. On the surface he's a carefree joker, and underneath he's a somewhat depressed fatalist who can kick your ass, the thing that makes his character great is that he consistently and very thematically switches between these two sides depending heavily on the situation. It has a natural progression and feels logical.
What fan works love to do is either make him stolidly one-sided the entire time (the source of oh-so-many edgy Sans fanfics), or swap so readily between them that he seems more like a bitchy self-righteous ass, pulling out the eye and gaster-blasters whenever someone says something mean to his brother.[/sp]
[sp]People seem to believe Sans would coddle his 'widdle baby brother awww' when in reality the dude literally did jack shit when you were actively murdering him.[/sp]

Literally the only decent things that I've seen on display are the OST and the 3d assets/character model (the one in the animation test).

IIRC they're even using one of Tsuko G's covers.
Seriously that skeleton though. I can't get over how it looks like a clown vomited all over Brook from One Piece.
