Getting good at this game is so rewarding, after spending the past week grinding in casual and getting steamrolled by decent players, it feels awesome being able to hold your own and take people out. I really hope this game lasts a while or even becomes relatively active/big (although I'm not getting my hopes up too much). If Ubisoft actually pays attention to this and the devs continue polishing, they might have a chance at actually creating a successful competitive game. They really need to lower the pricetag though, it's really prohibitive for an eSports marketed game.
I actually came in to post the opposite. I'm starting to get kind of bored of this game because I don't see myself getting better as a player except in terms of map knowledge, and I'm really just no longer having fun getting killed by people I never saw and who, if I did see, I had no chance against because they were prone in the most obnoxious area possible. I just don't have the motivation to slowly learn all the nooks and crannies of these maps. A lot of this game is good but you don't really get to experience it because someone lag warped into a doorway you were just looking at or the very tip of their assault rifle was sticking through a tiny hole behind a counter top.
My first 10 hours or so I couldn't pull myself away from the game but now all I want to do is play Battlefield or CSGO. It's a shame.
That patch is great. Ubisoft are doing well so far I must admit.
Added you two, Jho and ratman.
I'm Rickkata on Uplay.
Sweet, I'll hit you up next time we're both online

You just need to git gud.
You just need to git gud.
I am pretty gud. I win more games than I lose and I kill more people than I die. The problem is I don't feel satisfied with these statistics because the vast majority of my kills is knowing where the enemy is and shooting them in the back. Having a stand-up situation where two players can use their skills as FPS players happens maybe one in five or ten games. The rest just comes down to map knowledge, which is certainly a skill but I'd argue not one on the same plane as aim, reflexes, or situational awareness.
Game has great shooting mechanics and I actually agree with it's ability to be a competitive esport (it has more of a shot than anything EA or Activision is going to produce in the next two years) but that hinges on being entertaining as a spectator and honestly I don't see that right now.
A patch came out recently, and there was an DLC or something for High Texture pack for free. But i can't seem to enable it? or download it?

Ultra high textures yeah, just go on DLC tab on uplay

It definitely lacks that "I'm a shooter god and I'm going to wreck you one on one" that I love about CS, but I find similar entertainment in "I know how to get behind you or distract you and get a clean kill" too. Also I think it's pretty cool for spectators, it feels pretty suspenseful once the fight has started. The game definitely rewards map awareness and flanking more than pure shooter skill, but I like it. When I want to show off my aim and fire control, I play CS. When I want to feel like a genius for spotting an MG with a drone and sniping him from an adjacent rooftop, I play Siege. Is there a Facepunch group? We should git gud and represent.

Have you ever played a Rainbow Six game before? While Siege is a far cry from the old ones, Rainbow Six has never been about twitch shooting skills. It has never been about coming face-to-face with someone and handing victory to the one who can snap off a faster headshot. Rainbow Six will always be about out-thinking your opponent and always being that guy who gets everyone in the back. If you can snap around and pull off a headshot regularly in a Rainbow Six game like you can in Counter-Strike, it is no longer a Rainbow Six game.
I agree, this game lends itself to a being able to out think your opponent rather than being able to out shoot, which I like very much. I'm all up for getting involved with a facepunch squad.

Well said, and this game does achieve that, albeit in a different way to previous R6 games. I find all my best moments in this game come from times where I realize something like "oh, I'm pretty sure their whole team is distracted trying to get in that window, I should probably flank around to put some in their back". Obviously sometimes the game is going to have 1v1 direct firefights and all, but the game gives every operator so many tools to avoid confrontations like this, without you having the upper hand in any way.
So the Ultra HD Texture pack is now available in dlc
something is wrong with my tho :v:

Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Raven Shield, Vegas and Vegas 2. So yeah I've been playing Rainbow Six for a minute.
Edit: Forgot Lockdown.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree but this statement sums up why I'm getting bored of the game faster than I'd like and why I feel spectators will feel the same.

Made shit talking so difficult.
Sorry for butting in, but what's the general view of the game so far? I've been thinking of getting it, but thought it looked a bit too fast paced for 'tactical' shooter and the fact that this is by Ubi kinda made me stray away a bit.

It's fast paced but plenty tactical and while it's by Ubi the team behind it seems distinctly un-Ubi, with their constant detailed conversation with the community and commitment to keep maps and operators free so as to not split up the community.
I got the game for $30 and I feel like I wouldn't want to pay much more ($40) because you really only get the 5v5 competitive gameplay. Terrorist Hunt exists but the AI is pretty poor and while Situations (singleplayer episodic missions) are cool, you run through them in the first two hours.
If you can find it on sale or have the patience to wait I recommend it, but it's a hard call at $60.

General view in this thread anyway seems to be that it's great. (Of course the 1 guy posting otherwise would be the one to answer your question first).
The game's pace is a tricky one because every game can turn out so different depending on certain things, like the map, which operators are picked (some are better at aggressive play), and other things like if attackers know where the hostage is located.
If the attackers don't know where the hostage/bomb is located, generally the pace slows down quite a bit, where you're going to be clearing rooms and floors carefully in order to not catch a bullet by one of the 5 enemy players who are waiting for your arrival. The pace picks up when initial conflict begins and you find the hostage/bomb room (but you're still very much in control of what happens here) then dies down again fairly quickly after a few people on each team get picked off and it goes back to trying to outsmart the other team.
There's a lot of tactical play in this game though. The destruction just hands itself to it so well. I've seen people win games by flanking the other players by going to the floor below and shooting through the ceiling to hit their targets. It rewards careful play and consideration of your environment, and it rewards you for having a keen ear. I can't really say more than this, just know, there's plenty of opportunity for tactical play, especially as you learn the maps.
Ubisoft scared me too. I didn't buy it on release until I heard what others were saying. I was quite surprised that people were saying it was great, and I bought into that, now I think it's great. Then yesterday they released a fantastic patch that included a HD texture pack for PC players, and fixing up some of the issues with servers (like raising the tickrate).
I'm still on the fence about buying it, seen it for £25 on some places and I think that sounds like it'd be worth it for an MP only game, did the recent patch fix the netcode? I've been hearing thats p.dire.

Where can you get it for £25? There's no way I'm buying it for 50 quid from steam
Not sure if you're allowed link directly to CD Key sites.

I'm sorry for offering what I see as a pretty fair opinion to someone asking for opinions. I even recommended the game, just not at the price Ubisoft is demanding, which virtually everyone agrees is true.

For the most part. There are still some oddities like people shooting in directions that they aren't looking on your screen but it's far less prevalent than it was before.

I didn't say anything about what you said. Generally what you said was pretty fair, it's just I wanted him to know that most people have a few more positive and enthusiastic things to say about the game than you did.
