Montagne and Twitch are often overlooked which is pretty sad as I've had numerous good games where I've used Montagnes shield (Le Rock), extend it and then just call out targets in the room infront of me so that my mates can drop them.
Twitch with the DMR is also extremely lethal as one well-placed or two shots is enough to bring down an enemy for good.
Shock drone is also really useful for sniping mutes jammers or bandits wires which is a godsend as you can then scout and blast them through walls with the DMR.
Yeah, but GIGN has Doc.
Montagne is the weakest of the 3 shield classes and probably the weakest attacker overall. His is the only ability I can think of that is downright worse in certain situations. He was my first attacker I unlocked so it's not like I didn't try with him but I just cannot think of times when he would be more useful than Blitz. I guess Fuze isn't a traditional shield class because people tend to run with his amazing LMG but again, he gets an ability and a shield. Where as Montagne gets an ability that ostensibly increases defenses while increasing his silhouette and isn't useful in a lot of situations where you would want a shield, such as going through a window.
Frankly if the enemy team has a Montagne I get optimistic about our teams chances of winning. It's not exactly 5v4 but its close.
[editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
All the other GIGN characters are great though. Doc and Rook are good on their own but combined are a solid combo and Twitch is criminally underrated. Her DMR leaves something to be desired but the FAMAS is absolutely brutal in Siege.

His shield has a massive hitbox, if you get glaz behind you, he can pop heads while you take the shots. Or like I did one time and block a door while someone was planting.
Sorry but as long as the hitbox is fucked, blitz is still the worst shield.

Why wouldn't they just rush you down and melee you?
My favorite combo with Glaz is actually Twitch. Few things as satisfying as walking a friend to where an enemy is camping and watching their head explode, then a few seconds later seeing WTF HACKER in chat.

Blitz is probably my second most played attacker and I've never noticed a bad hitbox?
Do we have a confirmed date about the new operators?

The earmuffs count as part of the head hitbox, they can be hit even if he's looking straight at you.

February 2nd is when the DLC is available to season pass holders. I think everyone else gets it a week later.

Sweet!
So I found out last night than if you're crouch walking and you hold Alt you can slow walk even more and it makes any class fucking invisible. You make no sound. I had a damn Rook sneak up on me twice in the same match because he didn't make a sound while crouch alt walking.
[editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
Oh, and someone made a full damage spreadsheet with all weapons and taking Rook armor into consideration.

Because mont shouldn't be alone period. If he has someone backing him up at all times, it's like a walking pillbox on most maps.

I use Montagne all the time because you can't really rely on Blitz thanks to the flash being blockable by a single 2x4 being in the way of the flash.
I just love his big shield and the revolver. The number of snap headshots I get by just lining it up, waiting for a reload, and then headshotting someone is pretty high by now.

Montagne is fucking great. Not a lot of people know how to play him and play him well.

It's not that it's blockable by a 2x4, it's that flash in this game is fucky.
Flashbangs have two radius', an inner and outer. If you're caught in the inner, even if you're looking away, you'll get full flashed. If you're caught in the outer, you'll get half flashed. Flashbang radius is small. Blitz's shield works in a forward arc but same thing applies.
[QUOTE=codemaster85;49529886]Because mont shouldn't be alone period. If he has someone backing him up at all times, it's like a walking pillbox on most maps.[/QUOTE]
If the enemy team lets you get into a doorway, doesn't have C4/smoke/LMG, and forgets that while he has his shield up Montagne is no threat and you can convince someone to position themselves with you over voice chat, it works, and it's incredibly satisfying. I can say I've won atleast a single match as Montagne that I arguably would not have won as Fuze or Blitz. But I've clutched so many more games as Blitz to the point where he is my go to matchpoint pick if it's not a 2-0 game. The fact that he requires being babysat by a more useful player to be considered merely viable is pretty bad. Perhaps that level of teamwork should be standard across all characters and perhaps my gauge on what constitutes a useful character is too far towards who has the most potential to carry a game by himself but I just have not seen Montagne players contribute to the match as much as almost anyone else save IQ. He isn't bad, and I think Montagne being one of the weaker attackers is a sign of how well the game is balanced considering the variety. It's just that I have a hard time being convinced that I can do more in a match with him than I could as just about anyone else. I could chalk this up to me being bad with him (I'm not great at Glaz despite him being popularly considered the most powerful attacker) but I can genuinely say that I have never seen a "good" Montagne, or atleast one that contributed more to his team than almost any other attacker.

You can do that with any shield user. It's better as Blitz though because your pistol holds more rounds and fires faster.

You can say this about literally every character or class in a video game. It's not a compelling argument for whether something is balanced well or not.
In any case I guess we have to agree to disagree because I have yet to meet a single person who I'd say plays Montagne well. It's hard to imagine the nuance required to play a character who's only differentiating role is to hold mouse 3 to soak bullets.
I feel like I made a mistake buying season pass.

I like Montagne but I feel like Blitz utility outperforms him. I miss the revolver though. I still pick him occasionally.

Sorry but I'm not going to sit writing about every possible scenario like you seem to do. It's not a big deal, but I wouldn't call him the worst attacker for sure.
When played right he can literally be the reason behind won rounds. No one knows how to play him, which is kind of why he's so good, because the same people don't know how to react when they see him with his shield up.
A lot of the time when I play as him, people put clips upon clips into the shield hoping to hit me but never do. This takes up their attention so much while my team sneaks around and catches them stupidly focusing on me. Same thing when you breach with your team, if you go in first with a big ass shield most players will shoot you.
The role is to be a tank/distraction of sorts and he's brilliant at it.

Yeah I forgot about IQ so not literally the worst but pretty close. Who do you think is worse than Montagne?

C4, melee, the usual tricks when fighting shield users seems to work with the benefit that going into tower mode hurts his visibility and mobility. Plus the fact that many Montagne players seem entrenched in the idea that their only job is to soak bullets means they have no clue how to react when someone doesn't play their game for them and instead just rushes in, kills them, and kills their buddy, or just throws a brick of C4. If I'm fighting against more than one shield user as a defender I go a class with nitro personally.

I guess it's differing playstyles but I'd rather play as someone who is useful for what they bring to the table rather than gambling that the enemy is going to act like dumb turrets crouched in a corner emptying magazines on someone who isn't a threat while Montagnes team slowly collapses around them. If it works for you that's great, I'm just saying in all my time playing I've seen it work like once. You could be the only one who knows how to play Montagne, you'd certainly be the first I've heard of.

I'd like to get it eventually if only to support ubisoft's policy of making content free for everyone throughout the life of the game but I'm not going to spend money before something substantive comes out. The JTF2 operators looking cool might do it for me though.
I honestly don't think anyone's bad.
No one's ever really going to be a truly terrible choice unless you just can't play them.
Montagne makes flanking a hell of a strong tactic. Blitz makes frontal assaults pretty easy. Fuze is great for just destroying shit or moving up like Blitz. IQ has one of the strongest guns in the game with the SIG.
Like I just like everyone and don't feel anyones gimped. They all have their purpose. Montagne, to me, is a great tank and a great flanker.
I never liked Pulse. I hate the UMP and the shotgun and I could rarely get the heartbeat scanner to work (and when it did, it was typically too late)
The trick with pulse is having someone else be on camera's right as the match starts so you know which side they're approaching from
Then, you just hide on that side of the house, out of the way, and track them from behind and usually out of sight, pretty good strat
I just lost a 1v1 because I was approaching from behind a counter (crawling forward, legs behind me), and when I went to get up my legs jettisoned forward, through my ass, gave away my position, and they just sprayed for the kill.

his legs literally fucking jettisoned from his body as he was crouching.:v:
Is Tachanka's camo and the fact that he's the oldest operator a reference to The End? v:v:v
So I tried a few games of Montagne to see what I was missing out on. Most of them were okay and I won more games than I lost but situations where I could use his shield effectively were few and far between. I was more just a fifth wheel on a team that had happened to be doing well on it's own and I showed up to take some bullets and pop the occasional bad guy in the face with my French revolver.
Then we got the airplane map and it was my hardest fought match of the night and in spectacular fashion, came down to me, alone, for 2:2 match point over the fifth round. I was coming up the rear of the plane with my buddy and a random coming from the front when they both got killed by players posted towards the front. Knowing this, and fortunately in possession of the diffuser, I ran into the bomb room, found a corner, planted that shit, and then re-enacted the Phalanx from 300. Sure enough they ran into me, both blew through their entire magazine in vain as I was wedged into the corner with the shield up, then I dropped the shield as they reloaded to shield bash one then the other for the win. My teams voice chat exploded in laughter.
Montagne might be pretty good after all.
