SimRacing General: successor to Forza/Gran Turismo/Racing thread

PGR4 was great. Tons of content, great graphics, and an awesome soundtrack. It's what got be back into 'regular' racing games - having not really played them since NFS 3 - and the soundtrack introduced me to a lot of new artists.

The absolute best song from the soundtrack, the Rotersand remix of 'Scorch the Ground' by Seabound got purged from the internet, sadly. Now only available in the deluxe version of the album.
It's a damn shame the developers went bust. 'PGR5' would be a nice counterpart to Need For Speed Whatever The Hell It's Called This Year.
I recommend giving a try on the first ones, they are pretty good on the sim part, as i recall, especially 2. Now Metropolis is more arcade like but enjoyable. Has anyone played some racing games on the Dreamcast? I wish we had a recent Shutokou Battle with the approach of the third game, more simulator like than arcade
I don't remember the Dreamcast having a lot of racing games besides msr, there was a Ferrari SIM I never played
I never knew that basically each turbo was unique, that's amazing.
Also, the engine sounds in general. How is it that we had those amazing sounds, unique and realistic to each car, in an arcade racing game from 2007, yet these sounds are meant to be passable for what's supposed to be a simulator in 2013?

Listen to that horrendous "McLaren F1" at the start. It doesn't even remotely sound like a V12.
EDIT:
And the 2017 version is almost just as bad.

These are the new sounds... still sounds horrific and there's no gear shift sound, just a cut to the lower RPM.
There's also the amazing sense of speed that PGR had but that's another story for another day.
Because Bizarre Creations did not give a fuck about budget ; they would spend every possible penny on their projects. And somehow, they mastered the Xbox hardware and managed to make two games that, even after all these years, could pass as current gen games with just a couple of tweaks here and there

this is exactly why i sold my copy of GT6, who the fuck samples from one dyson vaccum cleaner and then does pitch adjustments
I always loved PGR4 because it had the Peugot Flux:

And the Hayabusa:

Plus you could customize your racer.
Fuuuuuck, this game!! Damn i miss this game, especially the original Xbox ones, wasting time on the game and on the arcade. Have you guys played the real original PGR, Metropolis Street Racer for Dreamcast?
I nabbed the original MSR for cheap just recently- not gonna play it until I get another VMU, though, since the initial PAL release was apparently very buggy and could wipe saves. I'm not gonna see if it's the fixed version with all that sweet data at risk.

i owe this series so much bc it introduced me to ebm and futurepop
featured bands like mind.in.a.box, rotersand, seabound and edge of dawn, they're flawless

Yup, was one of my favorite games as a kid. I still listen to the OST from time to time.

Racing games I played on the dreamcast were Sega GT, Sega Rally 2, MSR and Crazy Taxi. Sega GT was basically sega's take on Gran Turismo and I loved it, didn't have that many tracks but had a great selection of cars and you could even make your own cars.

Sega GT i only played the second one, on the Xbox but i didn't played a lot. Pretty good too. On Dreamcast there was Daytona 2001, which is a pretty obscure version of Daytona but fun, Le Mans by Infogrames which was a pretty cool endurance race game, too bad my version got a save problem, Shutokou Battle 1 and 2 which are mya favourite games: if you want some tunning game that sets on the highways of Tokyo on the 90's, with groups/gangs to race against this is the game, Sega Rally 2, the Ferrari game, MSR, Crazy Taxi and some more, i need to see them in here later.
To be honest the Maximum Tune is sort of the newest Shutokou, it has some similarities on some parts

Oh yeah, I played Daytona USA 2001 too, simply forgot about it.
Speaking of MSR's OST, it had some very very silly songs.

I watched the Kim justice video about psygnosis yesterday and I never knew that most of the bizarre creations staff now work at playground games

2nd car to 'Full Dress-Up', Maxi Shop does make everything easier and faster, this will be even much faster during the money truck event, depending on your luck
i got another car very close to this
Anyone would be up for farming the forzathon subaru in horizon 3?
Protip for getting the Subaru Brat Horizon Edition in H3 without doing the stupid 20 playground games;
hop into a private freeroam lobby with a friend and do Infected and just run into each other. Got the Brat in like 15 minutes or so
Planning to try this, would need someone to do it with.

I do wonder what keeps me coming back to this game because it sure as hell isn't the netcode or driving physics lmao
Hot Pursuit 2010 had such good netcode. I still maintain that Frostbite killed Need For Speed.

RIP Chameleon the purpose built engine for racing.
EA forcing everything to use Frostbite is a bit annoying, trying to make it a jack of all trades.

I think the one thing that NFS 2015 really nailed down well was the atmosphere and artistic direction. Yes, it was always set at nighttime (aside from brief dusks and dawns) with slightly wet scenery, but it was very memorable. Just a shame that they couldn't do anything else right.
Which drivers should I get for my g27? The latest ones don't seem to be detecting it
I recall using the drivers for the G940 , but I might be having fever dreams

This one might work: http://www.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/lgs510_x64.exe
DiRT Rally is currently 75% off on the PlayStation store. Worth it?

That's just bad luck. The genuine issues with its handling include understeer/complete lack of steering for absolutely no reason and how vague and unresponsive the handling is in general.
It just amazes me that simcade games like Forza actually have more-direct and twitchy steering than a damn arcadic racer.
I can put up the PoTW poll for the last batch of entries tomorrow if we want, would be a shame to let the old entries go to waste
oops completely forgot about this :V:
doing it now
Understeer is "fixable" in some cars if you fiddle with the sliders enough. Then there's the 180 SX that just refuses to actually confirm to any earthly transgressions of physics and seems determined to either understeer or snap oversteer. I've still not managed to get that thing to just fucking turn a corner at any speed beyond 30. The Diablo understeers on a lot of wide turns if you don't brake turn, which is weird when one considers that it's been set to be more drifty than default, and default has a tendency to oversteer on exits. The only car I've gotten to consistently turn corners without understeer and without reliance on brake resets is ironically the Trueno.
The only thing worse is the actual physics of the vehicles. Bouncy traffic is an annoyingly common occurence but the real asshole remains car-to-car contact with players. Apparently cars are made out of impact rubber, because being touched is enough to send most cars flying into the nearest wall.

I just find it ironic how tuning cars for maximum grip also makes them even worse than they already are at handling. The only decent way to play the game is in a car like the Hoonicorn that just slides everywhere.
ahaha no limits currently running a 4-day black friday sale
dogg challenger, m4 razor, f-type and huracan, doubt i'll buy any of it, they're all useless now

And damn it's 20 dollars for just 20 BPs, that's not even enough to rank up any of them if you already have them. I'm not yet at any metagame level but the Razor is still my best car and want to upgrade it further pretty bad.
And Damn I have some good ones that I could have submitted for the POTW, granted they're not forza but I like how they come out.
is iracing updating i cant log in i fancy renewing my sub

you better stick to gtr, it's much more reliable, but once you got enough for mclaren, drop everything and focus on that instead
also, someone leaked about upcoming sp event involving huracan, it's last year's re-run
