does it run better? people were claiming the drm was a big factor in the poor performance
Short answer: Nope
Long answer: There are two executables for the same build, OpusRelease and OpusProfile. OpusRelease has a few things disabled in the menu (some of which can be reactivated with a memory edit but that's another story). This version, as the name suggests, is the closest to the retail version, and runs pretty much identical.
OpusProfile has a lot more debugging features active (and has a profiler running, hence the name), but runs at around 10-20FPS regardless of settings because of the monitoring it has active.
Have we found a source for this moddable dev build? Really want to change a few sounds and fix some track widths
From what I've seen on uh other websites Admeister is like the only person with the build :v:
And if I was him I would not dare to try uploading it anywhere, way too risky

Others definitely have it, it's not just me. I definitely feel like I've posted the most about it though :v:
I finally got every trophy in Driveclub and its Bikes expansion. To give everyone an idea of how annoying the last trophy in Bikes was to get: You need to level up every bike in the base game to level 15, or about 1,000,000 Fame for each bike. Skill events, which are the fastest way to gain Fame, have you earn roughly 50,000 Fame per run (which is like 40 seconds long), if you are using a double Fame booster pack (eg you pay $3.75 and for your next 50 events, you earn twice as much Fame). Oh, and to unlock one of those Bikes, you need to drive or ride KTMs for about 300km or so in the game.
Granted, most of my Bikes were already at around level 8, but it still took me around 180 skill event runs, with double Fame boosters, to level them all up. Fuck me. So suXin, if you're wondering how I singlehandedly leveled our club up about four times, that's how.
So I've been playing through Need for Speed Most Wanted again. (the old one)
This game is crazy as fuck.

are you racing a helicopter??
are you racing a helicopter??
That's the police helicopter. It doesn't give a single fuck about physics. It also tries to ram you if you piss the cops off enough.
The first time that heli came down to ram me I freaked the fuck out. After a few times I realised that it's literally the only thing that can move trucks, and I started playing around with that knowledge.:v:
oh yeah nfs most wanted
i haven't beat razor yet cos i got lazy, but i sold all my cars for the carrera gt (even bull's slr)
If anyone else wants to play, there's a really good widescreen patch here that also includes better controller support.

My friend and I played the fuck out of this on PS2. Best cops in any NFS game. Carbon onwards was pretty disappointing. NFS 2015 I can lose the cops just by going fast on the freeways

In NFS2015 it's a struggle to even gain the cops.
the biggest problem with the early need for speed careers (primarily high stakes and porsche unleashed) is that there's a fuckload of championships and after a short while you'll be repeating the same tracks over and over in every one of them since the games only had like 10 courses
that said, i've finally completed every tournament in porsche unleashed and collected every car in the game. it got kinda tedious near the end, but was bearable since most of the tracks are short point-to-point races, and the few circuit races usually only have 2 laps.
i dropped out of high stakes early because many of the tournaments have you doing 4 (occasionally 8) laps on fairly long circuits, and there's a few races per tournament. also, you generally only need one car for each class so you'll pretty much just drive 4 cars across the entire career, compared to the pretty compelling evolution system in porsche unleashed. i'm glad i stopped early because i looked at a let's play series and apparently there's later championships that make you do the same track 3 times in a row, 4 laps each time (????)
now onto hot pursuit 2
[editline]20th January 2017[/editline]
also, not sure if anyone would remember this little thing in particular, but is it just me or is the set record time in porsche unleashed for monte carlo 4 literally impossible to beat? i had no problem beating any of the other records, but i pulled a basically perfect lap in the fastest car in the game and i was still 17 seconds behind
The PS2 version of HP2 is really the only way to play that game. All the other versions suck.
PS2 version was made by Black Box, while the other versions were made by EA Seattle. PS2 version has better physics, feels faster, and has cops that are an actual threat rather than giving up after 10 seconds.

is there a list of arcade cabinet locations? not just 5dx+ but other popular cabinets like tgm2/3 as well?

i would play the ps2 version for all those reasons you listed, but i'm not sure if it's worth the experience of accelerating/braking with the face buttons

Weren't the PS2's face buttons pressure sensitive (analog)? Because if so, you could probably use PCSX2 and mess with the input options so that you can use triggers as the X and Square buttons, then play the game there.

They are pressure sensitive, but surely they can be re-mapped normally anyways? Gran Turismo 3 had the throttle defaulted to the X button, but in the in-game settings I re-mapped it to R2

yeah that's what i ended up doing, a little weird in the menus but it works.
been playing for a while and i'm actually not quite sure whether i like the ps2 version better, but that might just be due to nostalgia since i mostly used to play the pc version. the cops are certainly more interactive in this one, sometimes exciting, but other times annoying. not keen on the framerate either. it definitely looks better though and the physics are pretty nice

the PS2 version doesn't have custom control bindings and all of the presets have accelerate/brake on the face buttons

in europe, you'll find only 3dx+ machines, 5dx machines are available only in asia and australasia, as for tgm2, got no clue of its whereabouts

The right analog stick is gas/brake.

not yet, 5dx+ is still new in japan, we're still in 5dx
I'm not sure what everyone else here thinks of Project Cars but I been playing it for a bit and it has been quite enjoyable. I usually don't play racing games.
It's not a race sim, but it is weird sim with cars that you can kinda race; I've been getting into BeamNG alot this week. It's pretty fun with a wheel, but I've spent most of my time in the world editor even going as far as making my own textures . I haven't done this sort of stuff since I was 15, some of it's slowly coming back.
Most of the tutorials and documentation seem to be out of date though and the forums just seems to be children (official forums are always terrible), so I'm sort of feeling my way. And I sort of broke/lost maybe 10 hours of messing about but I'm having fun.

As a backer I'm glad you like it. Go check out the #11 Caper Monterey car, I painted that one.

Was that the black paint with the retro style 16-bit print on the back?

It did look very snazzy.
It's that one, yes.
