[editline]30th December 2015[/editline] An illustration of why this is a thing.
Interesting, so it's basically as if both of those lines were one measurement since it has one of each?
Interesting, so it's basically as if both of those lines were one measurement since it has one of each?
Yes that's right. At any given RPM, the intake runners which provide the most torque are used. So in the illustration above, the long runners are used at below 2K RPM and the short runners are opened at above 2K RPM. It's a similar concept to variable valve timing, but VIM and VVT are not mutually exclusive technologies; many engines use both. Engines with forced induction typically don't use a VIM.
So I did the Dirt Rally Monthly Event in one go since Codies apparently screwed something up with it in the last patch, which meant that the Event now had to be done in one sitting. Wales and R4 vehicles still prove to be my worst car+track combination by far, as the Evo X managed to get itself benched on the tiniest of track edges yet again multiple times. On the bright side, I managed to survive the Wales stages instead of completely obliterating the Evo X once more against a set of Welsh trees. Despite that, I finished the fourth Welsh stage with pretty much half the car missing, as I somehow did manage lose an entire door the stage prior, got a left rear tyre puncture on the stage itself, and then had a massive wreck near the finish line, which resulted in the Evo X sliding upside down over the finish line with the left rear wheel having completely ripped off the car along with the entire rear-end flying off too. :scream: How I somehow still got into the Top 100 in the Monthly surprises me considering how hard I fucked up on the Wales stages and the car being battered badly until the end of the German stages, which were six stages later.
Oh god that league event is actually difficult, because you can repair your car only for 4-5% of any part. Had a plenty of offroads and even one falsestart, so I guess I had over 1 minute of mistakes. I hope we won't have such conditions next time, I won't let that happen next event anyway.
Really enjoyed the league. Between the lack of engineers and cross-class stuff it was completely nuts. Even with no big crashes the car was pretty worn by the end. Times ended up surprisingly close considering the near minute gaps going on in places too. Fun stuff.
I could have won that League Event if I, in true Dutch fashion, didn't choke insanely hard at the last stage. Lost around half a minute on that single Sweden stage alone. And that was despite driving a 4WD car. Oh well, it was a fun League Event. Only getting to repair around 3 to 5 percent of any part of damage was absolutely brutal though.
By the way I retired at the first time so I had two fuckups at the same place :v: [vid]http://webm.host/f9c26/vid.webm[/vid]
Is there a way to have the damage be a bit more.. fatal? I keep doing flying pirouettes into trees and I feel like I shouldn't be able to keep going after that
Is there a way to have the damage be a bit more.. fatal? I keep doing flying pirouettes into trees and I feel like I shouldn't be able to keep going after that
No, I hope they will implement more realistic damage soon.

Could've held my place if I hadn't clipped the snow banks too hard in a couple of places. but I knew Sweden would be a weak stage. The real shocker was finishing a pretty clean Monaco run and losing thirty seconds still. Who'dda thought RWD and ice don't mix?
actually winning in the mustang on GTC by like 20 seconds w/ 3 mins left game closed on me GGGG
Rest in peace the brave little Seat that soldiered on so valiantly trying to make it to the end of the league event. Died young on the monaco stage. [t]http://i.imgur.com/1D86sBW.jpg[/t]
Well, at least you guys had a chance to compete, I haven't been able to race at all.
How do dirt rally leagues work? Like do we get a few days or a week to complete all the stages? And do they all have to be done in one sitting?

And no, they work just like the online challenge events where you can quit between races, just make sure you select Save & Quit as opposed to Retire.

I am god damn terrible at this game right now but I seem to be slowly improving and it's hard to tell how relatively good/bad I am when you're just against AI times haha.
I remember some people suggesting me to try Trackmania using wheel and I'm still not daring to do that
Trackmania pretty much accepts any sort of controller. We used to find the dumbest controllers we could at LANs and have time trials. Once we used 2 separate guitar hero controller's tilt sensors. One for left right, one for accelerate/brake.

The next league event will be the week of genuine Lancia masochism, first half is RWD Lancia 037, and the second one will be Lancia Statos on randomized stages. I'm totally not sure about setups and career enginers, because the website didn't even provide the checkboxes for that, I guess it's bugged. Maybe we should cancel it until that's fixed? [editline]2nd January 2016[/editline] uuh yeah, fuck that thing for now, steam discussions all say it's bugged. I created a 3 stage Mini 60' event because I'm sure many of us didn't drive that thing for a while. event restarts are allowed because of fucked up services
So it seems like my brain just can't deal with the level of wheel turning you have to do for turning in Dirt Rally so i've gone back to the controller and it feels good. Normal racing games are still GOAT with the wheel though.

i use like 340 or something
I use all I can get out of my wheel which is about 270.
I created a 3 stage Mini 60' event because I'm sure many of us didn't drive that thing for a while. event restarts are allowed because of fucked up services
aww yiss
I also use about 270 of my 900 degree wheel. I think quick and hard turns are more important than precision.
Please tell me you tried a DDR pad at least once
I don't think we had one. We did use Rock Band drums though. Actually managed to complete some of the more difficult tracks with those.
I also use about 270 of my 900 degree wheel. I think quick and hard turns are more important than precision.
Rallying has more emphasis on sudden changes of direction than F1 for example. While sliding.
Bit surprised to see so many limited rotation locks. Been using 540 degrees quite happily. I don't think I'd be comfortable with less.
I usually do 450. I've tried lower by it's way too fast for me when trying to keep the car in check when going over bumbs at high speeds
i bought GSCE so i could pick up automobilista when it comes out but i'm finding GSCE really shit and not fun, as well as struggling to get things to work properly and get anything out of the content it has i may as well refund, right? - the content in automobilista isn't going to be much different in GSCE (more features, yes, but the underlying essentials will be the same, i think?) and everything i thought i could get from the game i can basically get from somewhere else and so i probably wont enjoy automobilista either b
my g27 optical encoder wheel arrived in the mail today. Hope this shit works.
