For those of you using your racing wheel on your primary computer desk, how do you have it set up?
Right now I have a separate desk and chair for my Fanatec CSR, on the other side of the room. The desk is a cannibalized TV dinner table with a regular old fabric chair. It's kinda annoying having to move between desks when I play ETS2 or whatever, so I've been considering moving the wheel to my main computer.
This presents a number of problems:
1. The wheel doesn't fit the desk because of the sloped lip. I can make a custom mount so this isn't too big of an issue. The Fanatec must be screwed down because the clamps are a joke.
2. My computer chair is on wheels. I'll slide back every time I hit the brake.
3. How do I move it out the way when I'm playing a M+KB game?
How do you all tackle those last two issues? Quick clamp release on your wheels and chucks/locking wheels on your chair if they are wheeled?

2. My chair has enough friction on the floor that it's just not an issue for me. I have soft carpet and one of those Office Max plastic transparent mat things you put on top of it to avoid damaging the carpet. Even with the plastic mat, it takes a lot of effort to move my chair while I'm sitting on it. My biggest problem with my chair is that I wish it would lock in place more rigidly and not lean back slightly.
3. I have a pretty small desk, but it's just barely big enough that when I'm not using my wheel I just slide it off the to the side of my desk where it just sits. When I want to drive, I just unclamp it and then slide it over to the center. If the Fanatec clamp is garbage then I guess that might not be an option for you.

I've got an Office Depot mat thingy on carpet too but I guess my chair just has super low-friction wheels; on anything but the most gentile brake load cell setting, I slide backwards when I lock the brakes.
I'm not entirely sure if the Fanatec's clamps are garbage or it's a symptom of my desk. It has a ~2inch fillet on the edge of the desk and lo and behold, the Fanatec's clamp are near the wheel, so it ends up trying to clamp onto a sloping surface. I've got it screwed onto my TV dinner table because I really didn't want to have to faff about with it coming lose, since I have lost a couple TDU2 races when my wheel (a Thrustmaster NASCAR force feedback at the time) fell off the desk. :v:

Don't really have much room to slide it around, unfortunately. I could probably remove that under-desk shelf to the left but then I'd probably end up turning my PC off all the time with my foot since the surge protector would be stuck sitting on the ground. Immediately to the right of the photo are drawers.
im surprised its not a vr game
Apparently that's because of a Unity bug.
This is dependent on whether Unity fix their wheel physics in v5+, or I bite the bullet and move over to a new physics package for the car. This is because I need to update to Unity 5.x but doing so breaks the car’s physics, which is tied to all sorts of junk in the game.
I've got a Fanatec wheel and I can say with confidence that those clamps are pretty awful. I mean I can play with the clamps & the knob tightened all the way down as best as I can get it for maybe about an hour before it loosens off and the wheel is sliding side to side.
My solution to all these problems involved building a cockpit, wireless 360 controller & a long HDMI cord to a big TV, but not sure if that's an option for you.
Building my cockpit took about two nights with just two people, ~$50-100 of wood & hardware, PVC pipe for the handbrake, a seat from a parts car, $15 in cheap carpet and a LOT of beer. It's definitely a worthwhile and fun project to do, looking to dismantle it entirely and rebuild it a bit lighter and with the new Fanatec handbrake this year though.

Seat was taken out of our parts Turbo 2 RX-7, fully adjustable and everything. The PVC pipe works as a handbrake, got some cheap carpet for the floor so it feels more like a car interior, and we even installed the little dead pedal so you don't have to hover on the clutch all day.
I've got a similar sort of set up, though it's in three separate pieces; the wheel and handbrake are screwed into a a table like yours, while the pedals are just propped up against a big metal ammo case. The chair is just something I had laying around collecting dust. Now it's collecting dust in my room since I got bored with my racing games :v:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/NMxcUBj.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/GvSMauX.jpg[/t]
The HDMI'd TV is ahead of the wheel, while my main PC desk is 90 degrees to the right on the first picture.
The pedals are currently sitting under my computer desk. I'm using a program to bind keys to axises, so I can browse the internet with my feet :magic101:
Slam the throttle or brake down to move between tabs, lightly depress to scroll up or down, slam the brake to close a tab.
Unless I can get my hands on a proper car seat, I'd rather just replace the stand and moving everything over to my main desk. The stand mostly exists for Forza 4 on the Xbox, but now that I basically only ever use the PC and a lot of sim games are kinda annoying to use with a wheel if you have to navigate menus, hence the wireless mouse sitting on the desk. Moving between the wheel chair and my computer chair is kinda annoying because of the arm rests and how cramped the area is.
In case if anyone still cares about NFS Limits

I snapped that default clamp twice, both times breaking the wheel.
skidz2hardcore for fanatec.
ended up bolting my wheel to the desk.
Okay, finally bought a T300rs off ebay for £170 after the last person dropped it down the stairs and gave me a refund. Got it coming in a couple of days!
I finally managed to get Dirt Rally update and so I made Renault Alpine event on league. Surprised you didn't on your own!
aaand I flew off Monaco :v:, no fun for me this time. really love the car though

the same reason why i hate Alpine so much
Fired up DR for the first time in a while, and I also decided to switch over to H-patter + clutch. I (should have) destroyed many gearboxes. I still have a long way to go to being reasonably comfortable though.
The Alpine is also fantastic.
It's been a month or two since I last played Dirt Rally, saw the 208 and thought neat! So I decided to do the most sensible thing and try it for the first time in Germany, could go faster with some practice but it was fun and I somehow managed not to kill myself at every turn.

I wish they'd bring it back, it would be pretty damn cool! While we are at it bring back 1500hp F1 too.

Did you mod it to swap the 208 over a non-Pikes Peak car or did they loosen the car restrictions?

I swapped the Pikes Peak track with a few stages of Germany.

So, I'm looking to get a PC racing wheel. I hear Driving Force GT[url/] good for the price. Last I checked, a new one goes for 299 USD.

Old tech but decent. You don't want to be paying 299 for it though so that ebay price is good.
I've been told that rFactor 2 is seriously worth buying and that it is one of the best sims around. Have any of you messed with it or have any thoughts and opinions about it?

For all of its high points in realism and general feature set, it's seriously lacking in content and compatibility of said content. Official stuff is super piecemeal with very few cars that are competitive with each other. The modding scene is also very slow and tiny compared to previous rFactor based games because the engine is so much more complicated. Quality stuff does exist, but there's not much to choose from.
Personally I found it to be very dry.
Oh yeah, and 40 dollar online pass.
Three years ago, Empty Box said that rFactor 2 feels like it's two years away from being great. Three years later, it still feels like it's a year or two away from being as good as it should be.
I don't know if anyone even plays Forza 6 on this thread, it's the first time I've visited it, but I don't own it so here's a code for that Fallout Nuclear car they sent me:
GGKMW-99DVH-F7GMD-MG3TR-CDCKZ
This seems like the best place for it.

Jesus. I paid 85€ when I bought my dfgt new 6 years ago
One of the most infuriating things that can happen in Dirt Rally, is crashing in a Daily/Weekly Challenge that was going well because the downshift paddle on my wheel malfunctioned yet again.
I should really look into getting a new steering wheel these days.
The alpine was a bit of a handful on tarmac but I started to get the hang of it on gravel. I was 45 seconds behind Iku before the last two stages and gained 30 seconds on them. Wasn't enough though. Also, it seems that checking friends times is not available on leagues or something.

Cant you bind it to a button on the steering wheel (if you have any on there)?
