Does Dirt Rally feel significantly better after the new updates? I had mine refunded a few weeks ago because before the FFB felt unrealistic and non-existent. The handling felt bad as well, is that improved? [editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
They entirely re-made the Westhill circuit. They added a ton of layouts and a huge off-track free drive area for those who enjoy cruise servers. The main thing the devs say they're working on is the tire physics. Scawen has said repeatedly that no new cars or tracks will come out until the tire physics do. Unfortunately, the multiplayer community is going to completely die out before that happens. The servers are now deader than they were pre-Westhill. [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline] Honestly though, the new Westhill is really worth the re-download. I'm bizarre in the sense that I spend most of my sim hours driving solo, so I really find the challenge of new layouts (including two go-kart tracks!) appealing
Adding onto this, I found the parking lot/garage from Tokyo Drift in the forums, and i've been having a lot of fun drifting around in that.

I think that's pretty awesome of Codemasters... to get in touch with the guy and not just listen to his suggestions, but follow them so quickly as well.
The tire physics they've been working on for what now, 10 years?
Yeah. Seriously, fuck Scawen, but also thank you based Scawen. It's like Schroedinger's Simulator.
As a new owner of AC, could you name a few cars I should steer clear of, and maybe also a few that they've done well in your opinion?
Don't touch the Mazda 787B, although it's a mod so it should be easy to steer clear of. Most of the super performance "race cars" are just garbage. The modern Mercedes race car that's in there, can't remember the specific name and would have to look it up, is also garbage. Hear me out, I've played racing simulators since 2006 and I've driven RWD performance cars in real life. So help you God if you touch your accelerator and you're not driving in a completely dead-on straight because you are fucked. Even pushing the accelerator a small bit to get going somehow forces the rear of the car out sideways before you even get a tire spin. On the flip side, lots of the historic cars are done brilliantly. The BMWs, especially the E30 in both variants, handle and feel incredible around the track. As Why485 said, the older Lotus open-wheel 49 is a great drive too. The Nismo GTR that comes in the Dream Pack is fantastic as well. Also, fuck Magione. Who thought a bunch of hairpins and slow chicanes were a good idea? Maybe in smaller cars, but most of the AC cars are shitboats that will force you to hit those turns at MAYBE 20mph without going off-track. I love and hate AC. [editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
Yeah, that's a shame. I haven't tried many of them yet, but the Abarth 500 and the Giulietta felt a little disconnected to me, too. And I got AC mainly because of the road cars :/ Then again, I'm enjoying the GT cars immensely, so I guess it's cool.
Road car mods are excellent too. The Ford Sierra RS400 is incredible, and I also am a big fan of the Trueno Sprinter AE86 they've got. [editline]23rd June 2015[/editline] Basically MODS MODS MODS MODS MODS MODS
just tried dirt rally again with my wheel and it's a million times better than release, minus the 180 degree wheel animation but hopefully that'll be sorted soon i set a time for the first stage of the league event and did shit, in the fast parts i'm awesome and have great control but i can't get the car to take an acute bend for the life of me, hairpins are impossible and even 90 degree corners i often struggle with. any tips?
Did the FFB fix change any physics or simply the way the game talks to certain peripherals? Wondering if it's changed anything for us lowly controller users.
Hopefully gonna give Project cars a go for a laugh tomorrow. Not expecting much but could be a good laugh. Buddy is letting me give his copy a whirl.
Did the FFB fix change any physics or simply the way the game talks to certain peripherals? Wondering if it's changed anything for us lowly controller users.
feels the same to me on a 360 pad
why does AC have a setting for how many degrees your wheel turns yet it doesn't do shit and/or does the opposite of what you set it to? if I set wheel rotation to 270 like my wheel is, the steering is twitchy as fuck. but if I set it to 900, it's noticeably smoother. does anybody know why this is? is it that by setting it to 900, each degree I turn on up to 270 is registered as a smaller turning amount? like a car typically has 900 degree turning so it would make sense that the wheel degree math works something like 900/270 = 3.333 in-game degrees for every 1 wheel degree

Assetto Corsa is one of the few games that gets this right. (iRacing and Project CARS are the only others that do it too.) If you have a 900 degree wheel and then drive a car with a 540 degree wheel, then your rotation still matches 1:1 with the ingame wheel. If you try to turn past what the ingame wheel physical can, it'll soft lock it with FFB to prevent it from rotating further. If you run a wheel with a lower degree of rotation than the car physically has, then it'll compress the wheel range down so that the full rotation of your wheel matches the full rotation of that wheel. An example in my case is the old 911, which I think has a wheel that goes 1080, when mine does 900. All it means is that turning my wheel 900 degrees now maps to 1080 degrees of the real ingame wheel. In your case, if you have a 270 degree wheel, then when you rotate it the full 270 degrees that will translate to the max of whatever that car's true max is. (900 in the E30 for example.) If you set the wheel rotation wrong, specifically higher than it should be, I'm not 100% sure what happens, but my guess is that it does the inverse and makes it so that 100% of your rotation would only come out to 30% or whatever of the true wheel's rotation. Matching the setting with your real wheel is the correct thing to do, but I can think of reasons why you might not want to do that if you only have 270 degrees. I don't remember if Assetto Corsa lets you adjust the steering ratio on cars (I know a few games do), but if you can it would be better to lower the steering ratio rather than adjust the wheel lock setting in the control settings.
I needed to try the 80's RWD cars sooner, the sierra cosworth is stupidly fun, it's great on the straight aways but on the corners it's tail happy enough to be fun but not too much so that you need to feather the throttle so you dont spin out. I'm having a lot fun in greece with these cars, usually it's hell but they make such an enjoyable experience.

You tell AC how many degrees your wheel can turn, so if you set it to 900 with a 270° wheel, you'll probably lose out on most of your steering angle but get smoother steering. Non-linear steering is the only solution, I guess. Not sure how and where AC allows this. And thanks for your input on the cars quality. I only race slow to medium fast cars anyway.
Feels very different now and reception is largely very positive *sweet vid*
Wow that looks way better. I'm almost saddened that I got it refunded and cheated myself. I should have had more faith in the codies. Thank you for showing me that!
got t500RS/pedals and ferrari wheel today also adapter for a real steering wheel. the pedals in particular are really nicethey easily switch between floor and suspended position and the faces are adjustable and the brake is adjustable and designed to avoid lockups without being a overly expensive load cell system. as for the wheel theres none of the notchyness of the g27's ffb, its much stronger and i imagine the 1080 degrees is useful in games like ets. i wanna build a 80/20 simpit now but i suck at diy and people charge silly money for premade ones did a bit of practice in iracing im off the pace of the fastest people but after people got promoted late model practice looks like a rookie race so i can probably qualify get mid split and a easy top 10

If you set it to 900 then you only have access to 270 degrees of rotation regardless of whether or not the car has more, so you won't be able to use those degrees.
i seem to have struck a pretty nice balance by setting it to 540, twice the wheel turn for my setup. honestly unless you're a pretty heavy drifter, i don't personally see any need for the full 900 degrees. maybe i'm just used to 270, but 900 just feels like i'd have to throw the wheel around
Guess I'm the only sick one who takes RBR on 180deg and Dirt on 220, DFGT is just really noisy.
The noise is really the only reason I sort of want to get a new wheel, but all the higher end wheels are so expensive and I'm just not willing to spend that much money on a wheel.
Look on Kijiji/Craigslist etc for a newer wheel. I managed to pick up a G25 for $120 doing so.
I was amazed by how much quieter the G27 is compared to the DFGT, the only real noise now is the unit vibrating my desk my desk is mounted to my walls too though so that makes the room shake a little bit but we'll gloss over that
I usually use 450 or 540 with my dfgt, because it's FUCKING SLOW so driving with 900 is pain in the ass
I always match it up to whatever the car actually uses. Most race cars are 540 so it's not often that I even use the full 900 degrees anyway. Part of the fun of the E30 and the old DTM cars for me though is tossing that 900 degree road wheel around. I know I'm starting to sound like a RaceRoom shill, but this weekend all content will be free. I highly recommend giving the game a shot this weekend as you may be pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to trying the WTCC 2014 cars. [t]http://image.sector3studios.com/show-image/5ad5ec8fcd0575b24fb95c61d153929f/5ad5ec8fcd0575b24fb95c61d153929f.png[/t]
i've become a big racerooom fanboy too, it's really improved since i last played it. just sucks that there's no flags/pit stops/weather
i've become a big racerooom fanboy too, it's really improved since i last played it. just sucks that there's no flags/pit stops/weather
There are pit stops, but the flag rules aren't as in depth as I'd like and no fancy weather or even progressing time of day is a bummer. rFactor 2 and Project CARS are both great about that.

So I played Project cars. I've no idea what you guys dislike about it. I personally love it.
really? i have dtm experience 2013 and pit stops are a huge factor in a dtm race, but there's no option to use them
Maybe it's only in 2014? I know the game supports pit stops.
I tried to really pay attention to my wheel turning while driving to work today and I've come to the conclusion that unless I'm pulling out backwards from my driveway, I really don't even come close to using the full 900 degrees in a real car. So for now I think I'm really happy with the MOMO Force, even though it is a little loud. Shouts out Richard Burns Rally, whoever mentioned it before. I grew up playing that game with a controller and it was a combination of RBR and Live for Speed that helped culture my taste for racing simulators. I think I played the demo about a thousand times, even my dad used to love racing the Impreza WRX on that one track. Good memories.
RRRE is fucking brilliant for a f2p game, It's a shame not many people play it [editline]25th June 2015[/editline] I've sweated for hours trying to get a nice time at the hillclimb
