I can't play any game with driving lines suggestions on because they are always super wrong and/or ruin the immersion
I'm playing through the ntsc-j version of gran turismo 3 which is no different speed wise to ntsc america or pal, but it took me til getting the castrol mugen nsx license test to actually ever feel like i was going fast
FPS-wise it's different to PAL since the PAL versions are 50Hz/FPS.
Normally that wouldn't make a difference but in GT it might. Apparently the timers in some races run slower due to the 50Hz change (I'd assume at 83% speed because that's 50 as a % of 60), meaning the Nurburgring 24h runs for about 29 hours :v:
The one thing I hate in racing simulators is the strong Motion-induced blindness. Just braking 'slightly' and sliding of the road like "How the fuck did that happen?" Then you realize you drove in 140 mph.
This is why VR is great for simracing.. You can literally judge your speed from the 3D depth. Of course, the price tag is a bit steep..
Made a video, please don't be hard on me, since I only have a PS4 controller and no money :frown:
Btw I love this game, but I don't have a wheel, and it was made for one :frown: :frown:
And yes, I know I messed up one of the curves, but I didn't want to do it all over again. :pudge:

just got my first paycheck from my new job yesterday, and i took about 200 dollars out of my motorcycle fund to get a used g27 off craigslist and a copy of AC and dirt rally to use with my oculus rift.
wow. ive been playing gt and forza since i was about 8 years old, but this is a whole other kind of experience.
so far ive just been lapping random cars and trying to do a little bit of drifting, but wow. does anyone here have a recommended setup for the g27 on ac? it feels a little weird, but it feels fine in dirt rally.
does anyone have any suggestions for getting better at driving/judging breaking/driving without assists, or any recommended mods or anything for AC?

Take corners slow at first when you don't know the track, taking them faster each lap as you learn braking points.
I wouldn't turn off ABS when it's factory available because most of the times it becomes really difficult to brake. If there's no ABS at all and you have to brake really fast, brake hard until wheels are almost locked and lift the brake pedal, after that repeat.
As for driving without TCS for me it's mostly about being patient, because most of the spins occur at lower gears when you slam throttle hard or something.

yeah, i usually play with ABS on, just no STM or TCS. i played a little bit more and i think the key is to just roll the throttle on and no go full WOT out of every apex
also finally figured out my wheel rotation problem, for some reason the profiler was locking the wheel to 180* rotation (-90 to 90), changed that to the full 900 and now its much better
play with the feedback settings too, i remember hating AC when i first got mine because of the majorly aggressive curb force feedback that felt like it was going to snap the gears in half
shit.
my g27 won't clamp to my new desk because it's quite thick, the clamps need to extend maybe another 3 or 4 millimeters for it to fit.

this is after taking those removable plastic pad things too.

It's more money, but grab a wheel stand.
A little upset missed the track day yesterday if people played, but I just joined the group and finally got my setup figured out so hopefully I can join the next one

I couldn't drive half as well with a controller.

I wish Forza 6 had car sounds which were as authentic. People often criticise the 'vacuum cleaner' sounds of Gran Turismo cars, but Forza is almost as pathetic.

Forza isn't perfect, but it isn't as bad as GT.

How is it playing VR with a wheel? It seems like it'd be disorienting grabbing the wheel & reaching for the shifter.

it's actually not disorienting at all. the wheel's rotation is represented 1:1 in game, and the distance o the wheel is basically the same as it is in game, so its not disorienting at all. as for the shifter, it's not difficult to find it as long as you know where it is. i was worried about disorientation when i bought the wheel but after using it for a couple days it is a total non issue

Man, that sounds so awesome. Almost convincing me to buy a Vive.
If only that cool greenscreen AR concept was actually a functional thing, I would buy a Vive in a heartbeat.

this is why i got sick of GT6
whenever i play forza with my xbone controller the left stick fails to that i'm going right sometimes
so i could be taking a corner and i need full lock but then it doesn't lock and i end up slamming into a wall or going off course
any ideas about what's wrong?
this is why i got sick of GT6
And GT Sport still has godawful sounds, making it a no buy for me among other reasons.
sooner or later i'll sell my ps3 and buy a xbox 360 for that real Forza experience

Why would you buy an Xbox 360 for Forza? Just for Forza 3/4/Horizon 1?

2 is also on the 360 and you can play the first as well, so the majority of the series.
Although you might want to hold on to your money and wait for future Forzas to come to PC unless you have a specific reason to want to play the older ones.

Yea that last part was what I was mostly getting at. And Horizon 2 on the 360 is supposedly pretty bad.

If you're going to get VR for simracing, I'd advise a rift instead (with the additional feature of motion controls coming out Oct/Nov). Everyone seems to fully support the rift for their racing games at the moment and it will run a lot better than trying to get a Vive to work with it. Plus, the comfort, lightness and sharper image of the rift is a plus for simracing over the Vive.
well if there's no reason to buy a xbox 360, i guess i'll pass and reserve some money on Forza Horizon 3
horizon 2 on the xbox 360 is like horizon 1 but with a different map and a couple of new cars
physics are mostly the same and the map isn't as open as the xbox one version
new gran turismos just make you want to play the old ones
especially with the fucking gran turisno 3/4 models imported into it that had no interior and pixellated fucking gaps between panels
The Premium/Standard separation was the shark jump that killed GT for me. There's no excuse for it when Forza can have high quality models and interiors for every car.
i'm not expecting gran turismo's audio to improve even after they've scooped up forza's audio lead
forza's sound design is getting better with every game
They should get the people who did TOCA 3 or Project Cars to do the audio for Forza. TOCA 3 probably has the most-authentic sounds for the V8 Supercars. Even GT3 is more-authentic than Forza 6 for them.

I don't think the people who did the V8 Supercars sounds for Forza 6 ever heard them racing.
