SimRacing General: successor to Forza/Gran Turismo/Racing thread

I've been enjoying Dirt Rally a lot. It's really clicked for me.
A mate came round a couple of days ago and we started a career, we did the 60s Open, taking turns to do each stage, we crashed loads, and just missed the podium by a few points. I like how the career doesn't make winning every stage and coming first the be all and end all, I feel like an amateur ending a rally. You feel like you're progressing in that the game stills pays out and the way your ability improves. That includes your ability to listen to the co driver, at first the game was incredibly overwhelming trying to drive while listening to the constant stream of information, but once you get used to it the notes are really good and informative
Next up I started the 70s Open in the Escort, I surprised myself by finishing second and being promoted. I often found I could be leading for the first few sectors then I'd grt cocky and have one bad off or crash losing my lead. I like how you can normally do well just by driving carefully, sometimes I'd think I'd completely pussy footed a section but find I had the fastest time.
The handling is great as well, I'm using a wheel with clutch and h-shifter. I haven't driven anything faster than the 1980s cars yet but so far I find the cars easier to handle than I do on most games despite driving on gravel and I think its because the cars feel exactly how you'd expect them to, I'm not sure what it is but they just feel accurate and driving something across a tarmac route feels a lot like going on a countryside drive. I think setting the view helps a lot, I'm using the head camera with 0.9 FOV with the camera moved all the way forward.
I really hope Codies make a new Grid game in the same spirit as Dirt Rally
I hope sometime down the line they make another rally game but with bigger scope, now that they know there is an audience for it.
I'd happily buy DLC for Dirt Rally as well.
Aside from the dumb as hell AI, the only thing that bothers me about Forza 6 is its music. It all sounds like music that belongs in the main menu of a fantasy role-playing game, but it's in this racing game. There's not very much variety in the music that the game has, and the one with the kind of beeping is irritating.

Gran Turismo 3 will always have the best soundtrack in a racing game. Even if half of the songs aren't even related to racing at all.
I feel the same about Forza's soundtrack, it was a total snoozefest on FM5 and in 6 it's still not great, but this track on its own shines over everything else.

Always gets me hyped for a race when it kicks in on the pre-race menu.
EDIT: The first game had a legendary soundtrack though.

I think I read somewhere that they spent a really long time developing the stages accurately so any new stages will probably be in a new game. I'd kill for new stages though.

Stages and cars. We need more cars, like the Toyota Celica, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI and the upcoming Yaris WRC, as well as some older legendary cars like the mk1 Cortina.

I love the FM5 soundtrack. It's my gotta go fast music.

Every song on the soundtrack has a mellow version (for the menus I guess? never actually played it :v:) which bleeds over to a frantic in-race version for part 2.
If you're planning on playing other stuff it might be, for example pCARS seems to run slightly better on the S than the original (assuming you might ever play it on Xbox).
To be honest for stuff like Project Cars and such I'll stick to the PC. I wanted the XBox one so I can play Halo and Forza Series (I tried out the PC Beta and it hates my rig even though I'm WAY above recommended specs etc, plus windows store...ew) Along with Destiny, Gears of War and some other things aswell as play with a few friends I have on Xbox, and luckily it doubles up and lets me use it for netflix and so forth, so double bonus!
I'm enjoying Forza 6 so far. My only gripe is the AI are a bit...banger racer...ery. Even with limited aggression. That and the fact that the AI suffer from the same problems every single Racing game has in regards to AI. Where they don't have to follow the exact same physics as the player, and there is always 1-2 people who run RIGHT away from the pack, even when they have the exact same car.
BUT all in all. Pretty damn fun.

GT4 Celica yes please
I've lost my PSU cable for the G27.
I guess I should just watch some tv then
asians just got 5dx, we're still waiting for 5dx, but it took them 5 sequels for honda to finally enter the series

I've been in Singapore for the past month so I've seen a lot of this series in arcades. It looks pretty cool and like a lot of fun, but man if this game is persistent the costs would add up super fast and you'd have spent like 100 dollars without even noticing.

It is persistent, you have a card that stores player information on it.

is this turning into gran turismo music thread
I don't like this track for some weird reason, so I'm posting arcade menu from GT4 that still brings me chills

The menu music of early 2000's racing games was the best. My next favourite after GT3 is Sega GT 2002
Fuck, it was such an underrated game. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it were released on XB1
Got hit by a nostalgia wave here and decided to install pcsx2 and GT4. Cue me spending an hour trying to unsuccessfully set it up with my wheel :suicide:
It was still a blast playing with a controller though.

Don't know why but I really can't get along with these sort of orchestral soundtracks racing games are going for now. Bring back the heavily electronic styles from the original Gran Turismo games and artists like Saki Kaskas and Rom Di Prisco. Softer, more lounge/orchestral music is great for the Showroom/Showcase menus but nothing will beat the classics!

ToCA 2 Touring Cars had e-z rollers for the menu music

The ToCA games were brilliant. Full championship with qualifying, cockpit view, weather, tuning, full grid of 16 cars, split screen. Used to spend hours playing that.

Need for Speed Highstakes had an incredible soundtrack, I still listen to it every now and then and I usually have it on when i'm playing racing games

Come on guys, you can't mention NFS IV's soundtrack without posting Callista.

This was in the game?
This was in the game?
It played when you failed licences and challenges, it's simultaneously infuriating and funny
It played when you failed licences and challenges, it's simultaneously infuriating and funny
It also occasionally plays in races like the rest of the licenced songs too.
