SimRacing General: successor to Forza/Gran Turismo/Racing thread
I seriously hope that no one buys GT Sport. Polyphony doesn't deserve it.
While Microsoft has put out three Forza titles since the launch of the XB1 and is just about to release a fourth, Polyphony has just been sitting there with their thumb up their ass. Three years later, they haven't yet released a Gran Turismo game for PS4, GT6 was actually released for PS3 after the PS4 was launched and yet they couldn't even be bothered doing a remaster for the PS4, and on top of all of that, their first title for the PS4 will be a shitty eSports spin-off which is looking to be inferior to even the shitty Project CARS in terms of variety of content, graphics and authenticity. Oh, and did I mention that you can't even play any of the Gran Turismo games through PlayStation Now?
I'm not being a Forza fanboy. I actually pre-ordered a PS4 just for the Gran Turismo series, and I only got an XB1 and Forza 6 a few months ago. Also I'm still really pissed off that the developers of Horizon 3 forgot that the game is set in Australia, as it has barely any Australian cars. But who knows what the hell Polyphony were thinking. PS4 players are still waiting for a sandbox, semi-simulation racing game (like Forza) for their console. What does Polyphony make? A shitty eSports spin-off that no one asked for.
The saddest part is that GT is still lauded over Forza just because in photomode it looks better.
Because actual stable framerate, good driving physics, sense of speed, career, car variety, etc. don't matter anymore apparently. GT is a great car porn game, but it's more suited to being like a "walk around this car and take pictures of it" game. Somehow people it's a better game overall than Forza because of graphics alone.
I still hate the fact that I would love Gran Turismo 5 or 6 if there were just more single player events with restrictions that would encourage you to try most of these 1000+ cars.
I guess Forza actually tries to do that.

The Forza series and the Gran Turismo series each have their own merits. If you own either an Xbox or PlayStation, it's essential to have the corresponding game. And if you own both, you should play each game too.
I've never played GT5 or GT6 as I've never had a PS3 (but I do have a PS4). I heard Polyphony went downhill a bit since the PS2 era but I would still buy GT6 in a heartbeat if I could play it on PS4. Maybe it's the nostalgia goggles from playing Gran Turismo 3. What a game.
Although recently I've really wanted to find and play Sega GT 2002 on my 360. It's probably aged very badly but damn, what a game that was. Did anyone else ever play that?

I have both an Xbox and PS and I can definitely live without GT5 and GT6. I gave up on those games a long time ago, but I still play GT4 on PCSX2 (actual 60FPS and better resolution than GT6 with the best career? Hell yes).
Sega GT 2002, yes. Great game. Try to get Sega GT Online, it includes 2002 with 30 or so more cars. The driving takes some getting used to but it's definitely the most struggle-y one for cash. You definitely get attached to your cars in that one.
I really hope FH3 is a bit more stingy with handing out money
In all the other games you could have enough money to pretty much buy whatever you wanted just a couple hours into it, no real long-term sense of progression

it could be kinda cool, at the same time though, i feel like forza never really needed it, it'd be fun anyway.
Is there a way to force the Xbox One to NOT turn off vibrations in the controller when the controller is low on battery? I get it. It's a way of reminding you that the batteries are low and it preserves the battery life a bit, but it's completely idiotic. I'd rather not throw away batteries which still have a substantial amount of charge left in them, but I can't play games like Forza without the vibration feedback. I need the vibrations to tell me when I'm losing traction, or when I'm about to lock the wheels under heavy braking etc. I just become hopeless at the game, especially as turning ABS on seems to worsen braking distance.

GT5 and GT6 were alright, only problem was that the AI was driving blocks that you just wanted to shove away. There wasn't really any competition at all. Also the loading times were atrociously long.
Forza 6 Apex now supports wheels and "out" from beta
They're also the supported wheels for H3 (thus far)
With today’s update, we're bringing support for a number of popular wheels to the Forza franchise, in Apex and the soon to be released Forza Horizon 3. This full list:
· Logitech G27 Racing Wheel
· Logitech G25 Racing Wheel
· Logitech G29 Racing Wheel
· Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel
· Thrustmaster T300RS
· Thrustmaster T500 RS Gaming Wheel
· Logitech G920 Xbox One Wheel
· Thrustmaster T150
· Thrustmaster TX Xbox One Wheel
· Thrustmaster TMX Xbox One Wheel
· Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Racing Wheel
Note that there are additional wheels that we plan on bringing on board soon, notably Fanatec products such as the ClubSport V2 Xbox One Hub and the Fanatec CSR models. Support for these Fanatec wheels will be arriving in Apex beginning in late September, with updates for both Windows 10 and Apex. In addition, H-pattern shifters are fully supported in Apex for all Logitech wheels listed above, except for the G29, which will be added at a later date. We will be adding additional support for H-pattern shifters from other manufacturers in the future.
Buy rechargeable batteries?

pffff whatever.
I need Fanatec support :(
I need Fanatec support :(
I think most newer Fanatecs have a g25 emulator mode. I used to use it all the time with both the PS3 and the PC. When I used it with the PC I even used the logitech drivers.
Too bad mine broke though. Time to start looking for a used logitech I guess
My CSR might be broke as well, waiting on a new power cord to find out fingers crossed
If it is, are Logitech wheels pretty comparable to the CSR? Will my H-Gate, handbrake, sequential and three pedal set work with em?

Fanatec sold/sells adapters to use the high end (G27?) Logitech pedals on the CSR, but I think it only works one way.
Also, you can just plug the pedals straight into your computer using the cable you use to connect the wheel. Just jack the USB-B (printer cable) into the pedals and the other into your computer. Might not work if a game is badly programmed and only recognizes one controller, so you'd have to use PPJoy or similar programs to merge the Fanatec pedals with a wheel.
Gah, sounds like too much effort
I was seriously considering buying that new Fanatec CSL wheel when that comes out, or shelling out all the $$$ for a ClubSport, but with how awful the Canadian $ is, it's way too much moneys.
Gran Turismo 3 is holy shit, it seems to be the most difficult in terms of money and AI, the latter being a cunt as much as I do sometimes.
I mean all of you who played Gran Turismo series used AI cars as a bumper to shove them away and take a lead? These guys do the same thing to you, once I was dealing with a leader, some asshole behind us spotted it and passed both of us, I was really upset in a good way.
it's probably gonna be like a week before they announce it.
god fucking damnit.

I'll just order the th8a and t3pa now.
Did you get the pedals? The pro pedals are usually easy to find barely used because the people getting rid of them want load cell pedals. Imo there pretty nice with the factory resistance mod but if you spend $5 doing the brushing mod they are significantly better
native support for G27 in horizon 3 ... oh my god, I really will have to buy that game on windows store, I can't wait for "possible" steam release :suicide:
native support for G27 in horizon 3 ... oh my god, I really will have to buy that game on windows store, I can't wait for "possible" steam release :suicide:
I think the only reason they are releasing on the steam store is because the game did terrible on the windows store, they probably aim to fix it up some then release to make some money.
Forza's not set to be in that position, so I don't think it will be released on the steam store.
And of course my GT3 RS V2 is not supported :/ Guess it's time to bring out the old G25. Does anyone happen to have a functioning G25 shifter they'd be willing to part with? Been looking around for a while but the only one I found doesn't wanna ship outside the UK.

I think they'll support more wheels in the future.
man i swear the stingray is tough to visualize on, unlike c3 stingray, you can't just use watanabe wheels and call it a day

the bodykits for that car aren't that good though
oh holy shit those are all nasty.
keep it stock for cools
I can't wait until there's a racing game out there with actually decent AI. Sorry I got to have another whine. But the difference in 'skill' between the 'pro' and 'unbeatable' AI in Forza 6 is astounding. 'Pro' is anything but pro. They take corners far too slow (such as that fast bend after the long ~225 degree circular turn on Road America), and somehow on tracks like Daytona Tri-oval they spin the fuck out. Got up to the last lap just before the finish line (about 300m out), and a car is just sitting there completely perpendicular to the track, right in the middle of the track. So of course I hit the damn car but I just barely manage to finish the race. It must be deliberate because that's not the first time that scenario has ever happened to me. But it was cool to see that they actually modelled and animated the air brakes on the NASCAR sprint cup cars.
But then you get to the unbeatable AI and they are literally unbeatable without using mods. It's a good challenge but they drive completely perfectly. If you don't use grid position boosts to get to at least the top six, you're fucked.

That C3 looks like it could easily pass for a retro car made today (like the Dodge Challenger).
Edit:
That was until I realised it still has pop-up headlights. So probably not.
Grand Prix 4 still has some of the best AI in a racing game in my opinion. Good luck finding a copy though.
