Crossbow + aim assist is pretty broken in the first 2 chambers.
However all my best runs are done with Marine, I just feel that his arsenals are very solid.
I actually really hate pilot due to (somewhat) dependent on RNG and his crappy ass pistol. One time I managed to get to chamber 2 boss without getting A SINGLE ITEM OR WEAPON as a pilot. Thanks game.
Convict? Eh...
Marine is too good because his pistol can get you through the three first floors (not including bosses) just fine. I dislike starting with a weapon as my "bonus" when the stock pistol is already so good compared to the crossbow and sawed-off which aren't very good at all (although one is obviously superior in awfulness to the other)
Holy crap, Glacier is a godsend for snuffing out enemy bullets if you're trash at dodging like me.
HAHAHA holy shit. On Chamber 3 I shot a chest, it exploded, a door opened with a chest in the middle of the room surrounded by yellow goo of death. I get to the chest, open it, guess what is inside?
A KEY.
This is a game of the year.
Hunter and Pilot are tied for the best characters
Hunters passive doesn't always pop but having any extra goodies at all is still you getting extra goodies. Her crossbow also let's you get by without wasting keys on brown chests hoping for a okay weapon, rusty sidearm is also super good.
Pilot has to play the long con but later floors make his discounts shine and the ability to hold two active items at once is outstanding in a LOT of cases. Lockpick also lets you combat the games RNG quite a bit even if it doesn't always work it gives you that extra chance. His only downside is his infinite ammo gun is kinda lame.
Third place would be the Marine for me who's a sound character but aside from the air drop all he has is a extra piece of armor. I've never really noticed his passive doing much of anything to be honest, though at least his starting gun is alright.
Convict blows ass. Both her weapons are terrible and the Molotov is pretty unimpressive and some bosses can just straight up ignore it. I wanna like her because her Passive is nice but my goal is to not get hit at all so it's not like I can abuse damage boosting or anything.
Bullet is OP as fuck but whatever he's fun to play as
Robot is insanely good too, to bad he has the blue baby thing going on though and shield drops are ultra rare. RIP robitt buddy.
I tend to use the convict the most because I just think she looks cool, and I actually like the shotgun she starts with quite a bit.
But I'd say she's easily the weakest of the bunch. Wonder if they'll ever buff her or something.
Well I just did my best run as a Marine somehow. I still prefer Hunter but Marine's weapon accuracy helps a bit. Still eager to see what other characters I can play as and where will I find them.
I would love to play as the Rogue if his weapon didn't suck so much ass holy shit, the spread plus the range really makes it a pain in the ass to use.

And the firerate too.
In terms of look I like
Cultist > Hunter B > Pilot B > Pilot > Robot > Convict > Bullet > Hunter > Marine > Convict B > Marine B

His starting gun has 10 shots in it, decent fire rate, okay accuracy, and solid reload time. Pair on top of that his passive that grants him better accuracy and reloads, it makes other guns more viable in combat into the lategame. Reloading is a very big aspect of Gungeon, so anything that ensures that he can always have shots ready to fire is pretty significant if you don't already have a fast gun that's ready at a moment's notice. Not missing as often helps to killing things faster and it gives him the freedom to actually snipe at enemies with his starter gun.
Most people ignore Marine's base abilities but he's probably my most solid character on the roster despite how boring and straightforward he sounds on paper.
The thing about the reloading aspect is you reload any gun that's put away (it takes the same amount of time) so if you have 2 weapons quick selected during a boss fight you can just alternate between the two and never really have to deal with the reloading bar at all. On the off chance I do need to reload I usually take that second to dodge roll over projectiles anyway so it's not like I could of been firing in that moment.
And if you're in a normal room your pistol you start with is usually enough anyway due to how slow most of the enemies are.

Depends on what guns you get, really. I can't really tell you how many wind-up gun runs I wind up having as a result of Marine's solid reload time.
Don't understand all of this convict under-appreciation. Everyone probably already knows this by now, but revolvers fire as fast as you can tap the fire button. Her shotgun leaves more to be desired, but it's a nice stand-by that never stops being handy. The molotov is good for tough spots and larger enemies, and the extra damage from her passive makes sure whatever hit you won't do it again.
Pilot's an RNG slave and Marine is boring. Hunter's pretty cool
Speaking of Convict

Already explained why Pilot is top tier but Convicts Molotov cuts off routes in a lot of rooms later on and is kinda eh. Also her shotgun does piss damage even if all the pellets hit.
As for the pistol thing I'm pretty sure all the characters can tap fire.
Picked this up the other day after looking at this thread. Having fun with it but holy shit am I bad. I die to the dumbest shit every time. Just barely starting to regularly get to the first boss and sometimes beating it. Havent gotten any further than the 2nd chamber and usually die within a few rooms.
I've died over 50 times and have yet to reach the 5th floor
:suicide:
I made it to the Kill Pillars and promptly lost 3.5 hearts in the first twenty seconds. I'm finding the regular rooms pretty easy now but the bosses still wreck my shit.
Why are the Kill Pillars a thing it's like you take the worst parts of a boss and multiply it by 4. WHY ARE ALL 4 SO TANKY!?
i personally have a harder time with the damn tank. Not sure why, but it absolutely wrecks my shit in. That and the big wall.

The Wall took some work to understand but the tank was nerfed so hard he's a joke imo. That said I understand having difficulty with bosses. I personally PRAY to fight the wall cause I can't kill the priest or the Killars
[editline]13th April 2016[/editline]
I take back whatever I said about the Killars it's the priest who is bullshit
There is nothing greater than seeing the words "You killed the Past."
Someone found a stupidly broken combo consisting of the Broken TV, Ring of Triggers, and Mutation

It's like a spammable Tammy's Head + Brimstone that doesn't even cost ammo, results vary based on what gun you have, of course.

A lot of broken combos in this game stem from the things that trigger on active item use and low-cd actives. Another example I've personally collected once is a small blank pet that fired off a blank each time you used an item. That plus any ammolets would basically let you clear rooms off the TV or an iBomb
so how come the skele cowboy doesn't have some Pantera as the bgm?

That would explain the Orange's world model.
Wow the past has finally been murderized by yours truly!
