Fuck it, I joined since Vanilla and I never got more than 33 as a Human Warrior named Jaik. So i'll probably join you if I can. Because the server sounds for something i've been wanting and I completely agree with you. Whenever I start a new character there's a push to just get to level 100 as fast as possible that it absolutely kills leveling for me, and I think I could use a break from retail to see what other private servers have did.
If you're into TBC I'd suggest Vengeance. Pop is low, but everybody's super nice and friendly.
Draenor EU is down. I was really excited to play WoW today... Oh well :suicide:
fuck I am feeling the urge to sub again even though I know I don't want to. Please, someone, stop me before I sub again
It's worth it, just do it. :)
I am currently waiting to hear back from Blizzard about my old WoW account. Apparently, when I made it, I was an idiot and used a pseudonym instead of my real name. And then locked myself out with an authenticator. I'm hoping they accept the overwhelming body of usernames that are the same as the pseudonym as evidence that it is actually my account, but I guess we'll see. Also, the email it's registered to has always been my actual name, so maybe that's worth something as well.

Try to schedule a call with Blizzard customer support. I had an account without my name on it, but I still had all other types of information and I managed to get it back.

That must be old, when did the defense skill get removed?
Cataclysm I'm playing 1.12
Why are you playing on private servers?
Because I find vanilla wow more satisfying than warlords?
After fucking months of trying and after hundreds of wipes, I finally killed the Imperator on heroic and got my beloved Curve achievement! Now just to kill the Blast Furnace and Blackhand on heroic, and I'll be going into mythic!
Because I find vanilla wow more satisfying than warlords?
I'm alright with Warlords for reasons entirely different than the reasons I like playing Vanilla. Given, I'm playing Nostalrius more than retail right now, but still. It's just fun to be a Priest in Vanilla, running around the starting zone and buffing everyone with Stamina.
I wouldn't mind trying out one of the ye olde servers just so I can see what the game was like back in the day, but I heard Blizzard reserves the right to fuck your shit up if they ever find out. I don't really wanna take that risk.

I'd say just use a different email and account name and you'd be fine.

I don't really wanna take that risk.

The way that US copyright law works puts private servers in a very complicated area, legally speaking. Blizzard only has legal claims against people reproducing or distributing (almost) identical copies of their code, landscapes, characters, etc. If you (and everyone else on the server) legally purchased vanilla WoW, then the code and graphics are all being legally reproduced without infringing Blizzard's copyrights. The way that servers work is that they take the information that is (potentially legally) on your computer, and allow multiple people to interact with each other and the in-game world. This requires a lot of coding that is being produced and distributed by the server (in this case nostalrius). Now, Blizzard DOES have a copyright for their original server-side code. However, a copyright in code does NOT protect the ideas/algorithms/etc. behind the code, only the exact code itself. Private servers that re-write the code on their own, using different naming conventions, and whatever else, arguably do NOT infringe Blizzard's copyrights. If you write a code to add 1 to a number, you might say something like sum_result=sum_result+1; I can change that to do the same thing, but say Add=Add+1. I haven't infringed your copyright because although they do the same thing, they are written differently. Two tricky areas that comes in is that under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), it can be considered infringement to merely "circumvent" security that has been implemented, and the way that Blizzard writes their Terms of Service agreements can be interpreted to mean that you are infringing their copyright if you play the game in a way that they prohibit. This is how Blizzard successfully sued the Glider bot (fairly famous copyright case called MDY v. Blizzard). Their terms of use essentially state that the copyright license they give to paying customers is void if players use the game in a certain way. It's a rather bullshit way to make it so the player cannot use their own paid for game in a manner they want. It also brings up a much larger topic of licensing copyrights to paying customers instead of outright selling a copy of the game. This is something that is hotly debated, and is a giant topic in and of itself. In short, it used to be that if you bought a copyrighted item (like a book), you owned the book and the copyright owners not longer had ANY rights in the book (it's called the first sale doctrine). These days, many software companies say you aren't "buying" their products, you are merely "licensing" them, and they've used it to get around the first sale doctrine. The main problem is that although private servers may not infringe, defending a copyright lawsuit can cost $100k+ easily. Most servers can't do that, so they just fold instead. While Blizzard did succeed against Scapegaming in 2010, it wasn't because they had a good infringement claim, it was just because the owner of the private server never showed up to court and default judgment was entered.
tl:dr you won't get in any trouble, only the people hosting the server could get in trouble and it's very uncommon for servers to actually be shut down
Good to know. A bit unrelated, but I joined an RP guild for the first time. It's pretty great, I have no idea how the people leading the stories are doing so, but things flow with such a natural pace. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ILhKggt.jpg[/t] I had originally met a small group of folks in the Blue Recluse and was chatting it up with them. They were quite nice folks, and an enjoyable time was had. After they made there way out (it was at this point they invited me to join the guild, and I accepted), I bumped into a male human guard and a female human warrior. I offered them free drinks, as I had been doing to the bar-folks. When the woman declined, saying she didn't drink, I jokingly asked if she was the wife of the leader of the group of folks I was talking with before (since he turned down drinks for the same reason). This lead to a rant about how she knew this chap, and how he had too much responsibility over too many people for someone his age, etc. Even went as far as to saw that there were allegations of him capturing and torturing a friend of hers. This naturally concerned me, so I decided to find the person again and ask him about the news I had just found out. Surely such a nice fellow didn't have this kind of dirt under his nails.. In any case, I found him and told him what I knew. He looked a bit flustered that people seemed to know about this previous situation, but stated that these accusations were false and greatly exaggerated. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ocPteRi.jpg[/t] After we finished speaking, it seems my nosiness provoked some enemies of his to come out of the woodwork. It was really fun. Wow, that was a lot longer than I meant for it to be. :v:
Turn off name tags for true immersion.
Turn off name tags for true immersion.
I'd get way too confused, too many names getting thrown around for me to keep track of. [editline]6th April 2015[/editline] Oh wow, the WoW Tokens are releasing tomorrow. That was fast.
''emperor'' some rpers are so terrible
Or that death knight that was a former paladin peasant that him and his family got slaughtered and now he's all broody.
Been pretty excited about those tokens coming, and I'm glad they're starting at 30k, since I've got only like 40k on my account. I have a feeling that price is really going to shoot up though, since 30k gold a month is something pretty much anyone can do with a garrison.
I'm gonna buy a few Tokens and hold on to them to see if they go up in price and sell some now for fast gold.
You can't resell tokens, you can only buy them with cash and sell them for the set price of gold, or buy them with gold and use it for game time. Blizz is trying to make it a simple transaction of money to gold or gold to gametime rather than it being something that can be played with in the market. Unless you are going to buy it with cash, in which case you just buy it whenever you think the gold price looks good. Should shoot up from 30k pretty quickly.
Mage Quarter RPs
Oh damn, I'm like 99% sure I flew right over you when you were having that conversation.
Oh damn, I'm like 99% sure I flew right over you when you were having that conversation.
Ho ho, cool as shit. Should add me on battle.net for shenanigans if that suits your fancy. (Linkuya#1965)
You should go visit the Blood of Lordaeron and laugh at their RP.
What do they do?
