Someone gave me 8k gold... on a level 1 alt I made checking out a server. :v:
Word of Linkuya's adventures are spreading.
I wouldn't mind trying out one of the ye olde servers just so I can see what the game was like back in the day, but I heard Blizzard reserves the right to fuck your shit up if they ever find out. I don't really wanna take that risk.
try nostarius (?) someone mentioned above.
I downloaded the client and played for half an hour - shit is so fucking nostalgic. I mean, just look at the character screen.

Everything is so simple yet difficult. This is at my 30 minutes of play I am still level 5.
I was very happy to see messages over General chat such as "LFG Princess must Die!" "LF1M Hogger".
Unfortunately, I could not bring myself to go on.
This is bullshit, who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make tokens fucking soulbound instead of account bound? Now I have two months of play time I can't fucking use once my time runs out because I can't just mail to a sub 20 alt. Jesus christ I want some blizzard weed. Hooray for buying a third month on an alt so that I can use the other two. Fuck.

If you run out of time you get an option to use any tokens you have on any of your characters.
EDIT: Nevermind I was thinking of buying it with character gold if you run out of time. Yep that's pretty dumb.
Just chilling AFK in an inn when an alliance druid tries to gank you with 3 minutes to go until server shutdown.
Bless being an engineer with rockets and shields, I drowned that cocky druid shit in the river of Orgrimmar.
Reminds me that I need to really enchant my gear, even against feral druid my damage felt weak. It was a bitter sweet victory with me having to stealth a few times to avoid being nuked down.

How difficult is getting this stuff installed, set up, and logging in?

The good old days of wow, where having something that actually looks fantasy style meant something. Now everybody and their dog has heirlooms and mounts.
How difficult is getting this stuff installed, set up, and logging in?
Extremely simple and easy. I'd never played a private server before Nostalrius and when my friend's convinced me to join them, it took only a few minutes to get it working. Anyone can do it.
How difficult is getting this stuff installed, set up, and logging in?
They have their own install. Very simple and easy, doesn't conflict with any other World of Warcraft installation/version.
How difficult is getting this stuff installed, set up, and logging in?
If you have the correct version of the game you literally just have to edit one line in a .txt file.
lol Resistances
what's funny about resistances? are you one of the people that think getting rid of hit rating and whatnot was a good idea too?
i don't know how people are ok with blizzards recent "remove a feature and sell it as a feature" bullshit
having more shit to keep your eye on and balance correctly, like resistances, hit rating and all the other stats should be a big part of the game. like i've said, if they just keep removing shit there's going to be nothing left to do
I miss having to get enough defense rating to be capped.

Things like Hit and Resistance didn't really serve a purpose, besides being annoying and dumb hoops players had to jump through for no real reason to participate in certain raids and encounters.
The game is fine the way it is. World of Warcraft should be a game that's based more on skill and knowledge rather then being based on making sure you gem and reforge properly and optimally.
Wow the price of the WoW token is falling like a rock, it's already down to 22.8k.
I was kinda surprised to see that myself. I'm not really 100% sure how the pricing system works though.

Don't you have some fingernails to pull out
personally I like having more stuff to micro manage, that's how the game was for a long time and that's what I enjoyed. I apologize for having a different opinion
You're allowed your opinion. We're allowed to disagree.
Vanilla trash, when will they learn?
Vanilla trash, when will they learn?
I enjoy both for different reasons, so I don't see your point? I enjoy retail if I want to be mostly left alone/do current content/play a shaman as alliance or I play vanilla if I want an adventure.
I had someone add me for the very first time in game to say the following words:
'pls stop killing me' Fuck you bitch. This is what you get for playing the Alliance.
Was riding in my war machine.

In all seriousness though, I do feel a little guilty going on these killing sprees. Everybody in my big wPvP group is like 'yeah we rock good job!' though I feel like we're such hoodlums disrupting everyone's game. Then again, it is a PvP server so I guess that's par for the course.

Talking and promoting private servers is talking about warez.
Talking and promoting private servers is talking about warez.
No it's not? I own a copy of WoW, circa Vanilla. Running a server is questionable, playing on one isn't so long as you own a copy. If they offered a way to play Vanilla or any other versions via part of their services, then yeah I would agree, but they don't.
Talking and promoting private servers is talking about warez.
no it's not, and I don't understand your hate crusade against vanilla
if we want to play private servers it isn't really any of your business, just ignore the private server chat
[editline]8th April 2015[/editline]
+ i wouldn't be surprised if within a couple of years blizz will set up some sort of classic content servers, because the population of nostalrius at the moment shows that there's a lot of demand for that type of stuff, demand = money
iirc there were 7600 players on nostalrius at the weekend
if we want to play private servers it isn't really any of your business, just ignore the private server chat
Its none of your business to say I cannot. People have been banned in the passed for talking about/promoting private servers.
The official stance on private servers from the last mod that came in here (I think it was verynicelady) is play on them at your own risk, just don't talk about them here.
Private servers are emulators. It's a gray area. But as Jimesu said, better not talk about them in this thread.
I made a character on that server and it's amazing what it was like to play in that time.
they introduced 40 man molten core to remind people what vanilla raiding felt like, and it makes me laugh because for a while everyone was like "oh man vanilla was so cool, come on blizzard let us play it" and then once it happened people were like "blizzard wtf this is horrible why did you do this"
most people didn't raid in vanilla, so a lot of people weren't aware how much it sucked. and even those people probably didn't really like the game in vanilla because it took a thousand years to get to 60. vanilla private servers usually don't do very well, or they cater to the small brain-damaged population that actually enjoys it. Most private servers right now seem to run on Wrath (the best expansion) or Cata (for the pvpers). TBC has like no servers because no one wants to run it because it also sucked.
