You can have lots of diversity in competitive scenes, just look at dota or street fighter.
To be fair, SFV top 8s are full of Chuns and Nashes and that's more fair of a comparison given it hasn't been out much longer than Overwatch. USF4 has good diversity but it didn't start off that way either.

Not to mention that fighters are usually 1v1 while Overwatch is 6v6. That's a huge factor in balancing.
You can have lots of diversity in competitive scenes, just look at dota or street fighter.
I feel like the current competitive scene is too unwilling to really give differing team comps a go. Like we probably will see Genji drop to F tier simply because instead of people trying to bother using him they'll just pick whatever is comfortable. Which is a fine and sound choice but it brings problems when you decide to balance around "Oh this character is picked a lot/isn't picked a lot, let's nerf/buff them because clearly pickrate is indicative of balance."
You really can't compare OW to either of those games. Dota is a moba with 112 playable characters. Street fighter is a fighting game that is 1v1. Balancing is completely different.
And yes, they aren't experimenting because people at that level know what works.

112 playable characters?
Ohhh, the balancing hell..
This is true but you have to admit having 13 heroes at a less than 5% pickrate in a game thats main draw is the huge cast of characters is pretty pathetic.
Its been better than it currently is in the past.
It is completely an issue, this is the least balanced patch yet, I'm not disagreeing with that. I really genuinely hope that team comps become more diverse in your average game, but at high-level competitive play, games are never going to be that diverse.
Overwatch has plans for 17 heroes.. i cannot imagine the future of overwatch with what we already got.
It'll be an even more balance hell..
112 playable characters?

you can ban and there's no mirror matchups and you can't change midgame so it's a lot easier to balance

Kaplan confirms you can buy the new Reinhardt skin for 1000 coins and will come in two forms: Pristine and Overgrown.
I wonder if the summer skin outcry helped this outcome. I don't think it's a coincidence there giving us a ton of reasons to use coins

Either way, releasing map-themed skins with new map releases is fucking awesome

The current patch of Dota is actually considered to be the most well-balanced in recent history. At The International, the huge tournament that happened last week, only 6 heroes weren't picked throughout the 6-day tournament.
Furthermore, as a MOBA, there's an incredibly diverse selection of skills, abilities, and mechanics (way more than an FPS could ever dream of) and you're locked into whatever hero you pick for that round.

I appreciate that they are letting us spend the coins. But I will completely forgive them if they change their system for all upcoming events to at least give us the chance to buy what we want. Seasonal coins or whatever.

Guess who just spent all their coins today and can't be bothered with the current state of Quickplay <-----
idk why people are expecting movie writing level of quality when these are just little shorts meant to advertise characters and show off their personality / backstory
Valve used to do it all the time just fine

Yeah, I've been seeing a lot more Torbs lately, too.

At least the enemy will be weakened with that GG EZ stuff gone (soon)
I just noticed that Ana's grenade blocks Mei's healing in the PTR but not in the live servers. I wonder if it blocks the healing for Tracer too now or if it's just a bug.
You think if someone killed that bird Bastion has (forgot the name), Bastion would literally go back to being full Omnic-Crisis again?
At least the enemy will be weakened with that GG EZ stuff gone (soon)
In my experience it's worse. The fact people go out of their way to spell G G E Z or ggezy feels even more spiteful than ggez. And an entire enemy team saying gg ez creates a LOT of text now that's kind of hard to miss...
I think it was a bad decision made with good intentions.
Valve take a really long time polishing out their short films.
Blizzard just releases it really quickly.
It's almost incomparable since everyone knows Blizzard isn't an ace writing team.
I know, but the point was all that why expect good writing nonsense as if it were out of question is wrong

different approach
blizzard shorts are meant to be serious, worldbuilding material
whereas the valve shorts were almost all played for gags, other than meet the scout and meet the heavy, both of which are the weakest of the shorts
the valve shorts still kick the shit out of the blizz ones other than bastion's, but different approach to them
Joined into an instant, and I mean INSTANT loss, where the entire enemy team was saying "mad cuz bad".
I really hope they add "mad cuz bad" to the list of phrases that are put on the censor filter.

I don't know about Meet the scout but i agree about Meet the heavy.. and that is because it was the first one and the most ugly out of them all.
Love and war "short" was pretty good. too bad they didn't end up doing their collaborations with adult swims on a tf2 serie because they took too long to make an episode.

Honestly, all the people squealing about it as if some great injustice has been done to their poor little hearts, as if they're being censored has made it worth it to me.
I don't even care if it never gets into the game from PTR. It's just been too much fun to watch people who can dish it out but can't take it throw a hissy fit.

Or maybe they could let us have our own Salt filter and being able to add any word or anything we want..
yeah people will really makes this game their hugbox against criticism or something i guess..

love and war was great, but once again, it's a humour animation
this isn't a bad thing, but it's clear that what blizzard is going for is quite a bit different
in terms of pure cinematics, the 20 seconds depicting the omnic crisis in the bastion short are better than any action short or action clips that valve has put out in the last 10 years
personal opinion and all, but i genuinely believe that
Do people on the EU servers usually never use chat? I rarely even see witty comments or many of these 'salty' comments tbh

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense given cryo freeze removes debuffs.
