Feeling bored? I'm currently streaming rigging the brickbat headcrab to the fast headcrab animations. https://www.twitch.tv/snoodles90
I'm having a hard time believing OddDoc's video being authentic, especially without any sounds from the actual game itself. Along with a couple other things.

Because all this maps are running under retail Episode Two with some critical fixes.
It may or may not be authentic but I can say this, that scene (incomplete status irrelevant) is not a case of cut content being better than retail content. There's no way you wanna start your game like that. What they did in the end is way better. I'm not talking mapping-wise or quality or whatever, just whatever we can gather from the trailer, etc., starting your game with the sidekick being killed immediately, plus a series of jumps and all, no, that's not a good way.

Seriously, though. When is cut content better than the retail? Only when it's cut due to budget/time. Most of the time if something is cut, it's cut for a good reason. A great example that I personally experienced, is removing the fog in L4D because I thought the beta was much cooler and scarier: Cool on screenshots, true. But trust me when I tell you that zombies popping out at you at 10 meters out of the dark was not fun at all. The special magic fog that makes them visible from afar is not because valve playtesters were idiots or something.
Yeah, the retail intro is just better in every way, it introduces new enemy and gives you motive to fight it, it spends a few minutes with Alyx alive and well helping establish things like superportal and White Forest communication, the fact that we're carrying vital information about the portal, plus gameplay in the beginning is better than a series of jumps which I'm sure those testers weren't ready for. It's ok to put jumping from cliff to cliff in the middle of the game, after you established everything about movement mechanics, as it was done with the later part of Sand Traps, but not ok in the very beginning.

Thanks for popping into the stream those that did. Here's the product of my labours: http://puu.sh/qugRf/779880bf47.zip Includes a replacement for the fast headcrab and seperate model for whatever use.
Where did this come from?
What, my opinion? From my head.
So guys, this moment has come.
Love the huge arrows over safehouses
So guys, this moment has come.
this is all real, where'd you get it all? this is the kinda stuff you get in trouble for showing.
this is all real, where'd you get it all? this is the kinda stuff you get in trouble for showing.
Right, now I'm NOT buying Ep2 for sure! Wait. Eh, what's the worst that could happen. Nothing.
Love radiators hangin on trees. Little things like this and arrows make me believe it's authentic.
Right, now I'm NOT buying Ep2 for sure! Wait. Eh, what's the worst that could happen. Nothing.
this is internal stuff. the fact that this is out means there's an active leak somewhere, as opposed to a dead one like the hl2 beta stuff, and now valve will want to find out who it was
Except this stuff is a decade old. Will they bother? Probably not. Likely not.
They probably will. The age of the content does not matter. It's a serious breach of trust if it was not O.K.'D by Valve to release. Worse of all, if there is a leak, there's probably content inside of it that Valve doesn't want people to see.
Except this stuff is a decade old. Will they bother? Probably not. Likely not.
It doesn't matter if it's a decade old. It was OK for me to post the portal beta stuff because it got valve-oked and it's been OK for me to give out the stuff I've given out because it's not really exclusive, it's just rare. You have to be careful not to even talk about stuff you aren't allowed to talk about. This is content that's only available to a small group of people. Now everyone has to worry about that group getting even smaller. Again. The last time this happened Valve basically fucking molotoved contractor relations. This has the potential to ruin things for a lot of innocent people. Someone betraying Valve's trust ruins things for a lot of people--many of whom have money riding on it and possibly even their livelihood--for the benefit of a small group of enthusiasts
-snip-
But the stuff inside would probably come off as fascinating to some people. Besides, if they try to take it down, it would only generate more interest in the content in question.
It doesn't really matter how the public views any content inside. It's Valve's wishes that dictate what is and isn't released.

What's this content's worth if it'll never see the light of day? So that few people could see it? What will they do with it? What you would've done with it? This small group of enthusiasts is bigger than your group of collectors, but I get it: personal collection becomes pointless when it's available to a larger group, and leaking stuff that's precious for you, in the public, will not be rewarded - the public tends to dispence things and waste the potential. So it's a selfless deal, and being selfless is rarely a good thing. But that's why maybe you collector people shouldn't have even ever teased us if later you regret someone showing some video that doesn't matter (what does matter anyway).
At this point, I wish Valve would do something like Raising The Bar again - a release of content *and* commentary. The models and maps are fascinating, but ultimately not very interesting without knowing their origins and stories

[editline]8th August 2016[/editline] and that's not what i meant. i didn't mean leak exclusivity or the "value of my collection" or whatever, there's something deeper at risk here that I'm not allowed to discuss, but leaks like this can cost people their livelihood. potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Only that we don't have these inner contacts that you people have. I'm not saying don't post stuff, but please don't make it sound like there was some unspoken deal and someone broke some codex and now "small group of enthusiasts" ruined everying for you. We're not parasites, we're same as you.
Well, Valve always betrayed our trust and interests and they'll never pay for it. This aint about her collection and how much stuff she can horde, this is about what can and can't be released legally and without breaking trust
Well maybe people should take that into account before sharing binary data with internet people.
yes, they should. whoever gave this stuff to doc was extremely irresponsible
PelPix, you make it sound like there's some enclosed, balanced, precious ecosystem between a few people in community (who don't share with community...) and a few people in Valve (a company which doesn't make any profit out of their content but just sits on it), and this ecosystem is now endangered, but we, the bigger community, deserve to be part of it, too, because we're all the same as you - players, enthusiasts, people who loved the games and got so much into them that they still continue this treasure hunting. What if Valve decides not to give anymore because someone did that?
The leak may have been very careful about what they choose to release, only beta versions of episode 2 maps. Nothing that's really secret. Just a guess, just releasing stuff that Valve wouldn't care too much about. Not episode 3 and the like.
