Going through the voice clips in the ep1 files for Alyx... alot of interesting lines. Some of them sound like (to me) that Alyx was somehow gonna activate the containment devices in the Citadel Core with Gordon. Maybe Gordon was able to let Alyx through to enable the containment devices somehow? Also finding voice lines/clips that could've fit into that rollermine part to make Alyx sound more afraid of the Stalkers. Then they split it later on and made it a lot longer and into it's own game. and the ar3 speech is a left over from when hunters ran the city.

Assets are not the same as engine and code. Look. VR demo is pretty much Source 1 with all the entities. We're not saying "VR demo is on Source 1" however close or same or ported the engine\assets are. We won't be saying "VR demo was on Source 1" in 10 years when real Source 2 comes out. Plus I'm not sure TF2 was back then on GoldSrc when RtB: UP states they were developing all the new technology for the engine, for that game. So quite possibly TF2 was already originally on early Src but that's speculation. HL2 not running on GoldSrc is not speculation however, it's the correct way of naming things. [editline]13th August 2016[/editline] What I'm saying is that when some people in community groups post polls like "Name the year when HL2 switched from GoldSrc to Source" and it has options like "1999, 2000, 2001", this is all bullshit. I pointed out what GoldSrc really means in terms of engine development and why it excludes the possibility of HL2 ever being on GoldSrc. If you read RtB and know a thing about programming you'll agree with me. Otherwise go back at RtB and study programming a little. I won't resume this conversation.
Basically, after HL1 went gold, they named it's engine GoldSrc, and the branch that they will work on for HL2 - Source. Then, with every compile since 1998 to 2004 (and up to this day, but that's not part of the conversation) they were adding new engine features. So, speaking technically, HL2 was always on Source and never on Gold Source. But if we forget the official naming and look at the engine itself, the very first prototyping of Half Life 2 was done on an engine that is almost identical to HL1 engine. It's a very slow and gradual process, like a dinosaur becoming a chicken over the last millions of years. There is no point at which it "switched". I'm not a programmer, but this is how I understand it.
honestly, valve understates the amount of quake backend in both engines. Both GoldSrc and Source are just really, really really [I]really[/I] modified Quake Engine.
