X Plane doesn't have the best scenery graphics, but for the other two points, I can't recommend it enough, especially considering some of the payware out there.
Word of warning though, X Plane 11 is meant to come out soon, so I'd say you should wait for that.
Saw the beta for that crop up, will check out the trial version. Thanks for the tip!
X-Plane 10 with the flightfactor 767-300ER (XP11 support soon) is one of the best experiences I've had and I've used lots of different payware for FSX and X-Plane.

As for ground scenery g2xpl works fantastic once you get it setup.
You can buy XP11 with XP10 included free for $60.
I got my start in gaming playing FS95 on my dad's Cyrix 686 machine, then FS98. I would do dumb shit like fly as high as possible then switch to a glider or other stupid plane. Never got good at landing or helicopters in general. Probably would have been easier with more than a saitek joystick.
Bought FS02 but that disc froze on install in every computer ever, then later we got FS04 and FSX. Not really into them anymore, but cool to see there still a handful of nerdes out there that still are
So I have an equipment question: What flight sticks do you guys use? Rudder pedals?
Curious as I kinda want to upgrade from my Extreme 3D Pro (I'm getting sick of the twist to use rudders) but I also don't want to kill the bank.
Cheers!
saitek make some really nice low cost pedals, it depends what you want to fly, if your into light aircraft or commercial i think there cessna yoke and pro flight pedals are great for a combat flight sim the x52 is ok but break easily and there more expensive sticks have shit ergonomics your probably better off with the thrustmaster warthog

id like to try xplane but i have about £200 of fsx payware i think thats the reason most people wont switch
Just had a nostalgia trip and hunted down the original joystick I used in the 90's.

Played FS95, FS98, Team Apache, MS Combat Flight Sim, FS2k, FS2004, IL2, FSX, Flaming Cliffs, and now DCS.
Flight sims are my go to game-type.
Been messing around with the Gazelle and F-5 in DCS lately.
Yeah, I've been playing a lot of DCS recently too. The p51 and Huey are my favorites right now. I've got all the ww2 birds but the spitfire, and damn do the German planes seem like beasts compared to the p51 I'm used to.
So flying from some random place in Denmark to Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow only takes about 1.5 hours in an SR-71 doing Mach 3.2 at FL620 :smug:

X-Plane 11 (beta) looking good so far, I just hope they get the jet sounds right because those are incredibly generic and artificial.

Take that baby where it belongs, FL850. You'll be faster and more fuel efficient!

The highest I've managed to get it in X-Plane so far is around FL700, I'll do another test flight sometime soon. Not sure if they have even accurately modeled the fuel system, the gauge is stuck :v:
Test flight from Nellis Airforce Base in Nevada, trying to reach FL850 this time. Took off, leveled off at FL300, accelerated to Mach 3, then initiated a steady climb to as high as it would go. Topped at FL680 before EAS dropped to 220 (getting near 200 is asking for stalls) and I had to level off in an attempt to gain some speed back, but it wouldn't hold altitude without losing even more speed. Quizzical to say the least. But did get some nice shots (without a doubt the model and textures on this thing are great, except for maybe the engines themselves).

You know those Concorde flights between Heathrow and JFK International? And that they took 3.5 hours on average?
Take the Blackbird next time. You can do it in just over 2.

Memphis International, USA to Incheon International Airport, South Korea
This is a long haul flight that I can fly in one go, thanks to the Boeing 777. I have 7 hours before I get promoted to 2nd Officer, which gives me a pay of $250 an hour! It's about a 14 hour flight.

I was trying to simulate a malfunctioning brake-system but I lost control of the plane and started powersliding off the runway instead so I did this
