Just finished watching the intro of the Bf1 single player through Twitchcon and holy shit, DICE really capture that ww1 experience. German soldier pushing through the British defence, flametrooper burning everything, shocked soldiers walking back slowly with their gun down as if they gived up all hope and a German soldier tucking his knees in with his arms wrapped around them. A lot of detail for the intro and quite emotional. UPDATE
Absolutely stunning.
I wonder how long you could survive if you tried really hard. Probably just take a scripted bullet to the head eventually, though. I love the instant transitions to another person as soon as you die.
Not sure if this should be spoiler tagged or not. It would be interesting if they had it set up so if you never die you can play the entire map as the foot soldier, but the fact that you get switched to a tank crew makes me think you might be right, or at the very least they'll just set up an impossible situation if they don't just automatically bomb you with artillery. For the first guy the enemies probably could have been set to spawn closer and closer, same with the second. The tank looked like it was a cutscene death. Afterwards you could probably survive to the end.
I don't know if anyone here played it, but the transitions reminded me of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Where you could switch between different soldiers in the field. It was also singleplayer, of course.
more stuff from the stream
I've got to admit, I'm genuinely interested in the singleplayer now.
I started having some serious issues with origin after the new UI update, after launching a game through battlelog the executable doesn't show up on my taskbar even though the battlelog thing claims the game is loading and in-game, no one seem to have this issue so I'm kinda hampered here.
Go to: C:\Users\(YourUserNameHere)\Documents\Battlefield 4\settings Using notepad++ or something, open: PROFSAVE_profile Find these lines: (In my notepad++ they're lines 28, 29, and 31) GstRender.FullscreenEnabled 1 GstRender.FullscreenMode 0 GstRender.FullscreenScreen 0 And make it so those lines match those settings. It should fix it, but you're forced to play the game in fullscreen. Supposedly it's a bug with a windows 10 update or something like that, I don't remember exactly. If you try putting the settings back in game, it will start doing that bug again where the game launches but never actually appears (yet you can see it in your processes list). [editline]1st October 2016[/editline] Oh I re-found the forum thread I saw about this: https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/13592/fix-bf4-not-launching-windows-10-anniversery-update-causing-bf4-not-to-launch-disappear
Man, the trailer and gameplay kinda gave me chills.
Is the epilogue mission going to be similar to the prologue? (unnamed soldiers dying for a vague and ever-changing objective). If so I think that's a smart move on DICE's part. The main five characters' stories are probably going to feel more movie-esque and/or triumphant, which I guess, even if they're emotionally draining, can still arguably take away from the gravity of WWI. By book-ending it with these scenes of mindless slaughter, it can put the war into more perspective: the first and last things the player feels and sees is the hopelessness of it all. It's a risky gamble, many people might not have wanted to deal with thinking about real events or issues in their "man-shooter," the mix of battlefield game mechanics and the message conveyed might feel dissonant to some, if pulled off incorrectly it might be called hamfisted, etc. But I think based on most people's responses, the gamble paid off. I'm also sort of hoping that the epilogue is from the German viewpoint. I'm not up in arms if it isn't, but it'd make sense, even based on promotional images. Ex. That one where the Hellfighter and German soldier are facing off. Also apparently chapters can be played in any order outside of the prologue, a good way to set up singleplayer so we can add more DLC stories, France, Russia, etc. [editline]1st October 2016[/editline] Then I think about the multiplayer with flame thrower-machine gun horses and everything gets thrown out the window. [editline]1st October 2016[/editline] I was thinking of waiting for a bit until I got a new computer, but maybe I'll rent it on the PS4 at first for the story (who would have thought anybody would say that about a DICE game). Apparently that singleplayer footage was captured from an xbox one.
I haven't played BF3 SP, but I read a book called "The Russian" by Andy McNab. The book Itself was pretty great, but when I decided to watch Playthrough on YouTube... It wasn't that good. Battlefield 4 Story is overstretched. How could you survive so many things?
The way some of the soldiers became shocked/confused and stood in the field looking around doing nothing. Christ, that shit gave me chills and reminded of that guy who was looking for his arm in Private Ryan.

I just use a sed script ever time i play, then jump back into borderless. I only really need to clchange the one value really. fullscreenmode just can't be 2, which of course is borderless. The other two are not important

Christ, that shit gave me chills and reminded of that guy who was looking for his arm in Private Ryan.
The last game that put so much into SP immersion was COD WAW (2008) for me. Battlefield 1 takes it to whole new level (I wish Battlefield could step up and create GIB system)
The singleplayer looks sick. I already enjoyed the multiplayer enough to make the price worth it to me, but I wouldn't mind a good SP segment on top!
Singleplayer looks genuinely great. Intelligent, respectful, and interesting. Can't wait.
What an amazing birthday present to myself, my dream game (and civ vi) Seriously, that SP is what I've been looking for for ages.
Battlefield 4 Story is overstretched. How could you survive so many things?
Welcome to the land of triple-A shooters and action movies. I can't think of a game to date where I'm like "yeah, I'm sure I could've survived that many enemies and building collapses and etc" [editline]1st October 2016[/editline]
What an amazing birthday present to myself, my dream game (and civ vi) Seriously, that SP is what I've been looking for for ages.
I'm hoping it doesn't stick to the "everything's a buggy fucking mess" thing DICE has been going for the past two BF campaigns :v: I'll be severely disappointed, because I'm incredibly interested in playing a good WWI campaign.
I had a dream about random spread where I was shooting at zombies with a BF4 LMG and I thought it would be ok to move while shooting since they were only ~20m away but all my bullets missed and I died
I know it came out a while ago, but man, I'm so glad they decided to go back to orchestral themes for this one. Far and away the best piece of BF music in a while. Could be "louder" but otherwise, it's great as is. I absolutely loathed the wub-wub stuff they turned BF3/4s music into, despite really liking the games themselves. I don't want to get over-hyped, but it seems like they're going about making this game insanely well, like, better than my most optimistic wishes could have been a year ago. I'm pretty excited. Between buying this and Forza, my bank account is going to see a fair bit of use, it seems :v:
this video is way too real it's painful
The main appeal of BFFs is how on-point they are about their humor, it perfectly captures the interactions I've had with friends while playing battlefield [sp]back when I knew people who played battlefield at least :([/sp]
I really need to get back in BF4.
New teaser
Man, they're really hyping up the singleplayer. If nothing else, it looks like it's going to be a fun ride.
Let's just hope it's not under 5 hours long, otherwise fuck you DICE.
I really hope we get to see some of the East Africa campaign represented in game.
