I'll give it another shot tomorrow.
I managed to pull a couple victories in 2142 finally. Really my only complaint (other than the goddamn PAK rocket spam I woefully remember from the olden days) is lack of autobalance. Infantry combat feels a lot less jankier than I remember it feeling and vehicles seem to dominate a little less than in the newer Battlefields. As far as I can tell two rockets to any vehicles weak spot will destroy it. I haven't died too much to air vehicles either. Honestly I went in thinking I just remembered the good parts of the game and would be turned away but it's a genuinely solid shooter that stands up today. I'm playing it with a friend who dabbled in Battlefield but didn't really get into the series until Bad Company 2 and he is loving it.

Even Project Reality for BF2, despite being almost different from BF2 in every way now, just suffers from the older engine compared to newer games. But it goes to show you how much the games have really progress and the time we used to play in. Granted CSS was released 2-3 years before 2142 and BF2 were and still holds up better than either of them.
Vehicle combat is pretty different from the way you play now. Like comparing the helicopters and jets in both games is night and day because in BF2 and even PR you can stop on a dime and do 90 Degree turns if you a good enough pilot.

One of the main reasons why I'm hyped for this game are the balance changes.
While the gameplay in BF4 is excellent, it just becomes too run&gun for me.

SKS with silencer, canted ironsight and IR sight

smoke grenade
Play on hardcore servers only, find a good vantage point slightly behind enemy lines. fortify with claymore and play the point and click game. Should you get into trouble do the ninja smoke grenade trick and find a new vantage point.
Levelcap excited for an AR, teabags opponent, world shocked by revelations. Also that mortar looks super fun, and i appreciate that decoy, well thought out.
