Hmm, iirc parachutes weren't really given out because it was thought that it would only encourage pilots to jump out of their planes instead of fighting.
Germans started giving them out in 1918, although they weren't necessarily the most reliable things ever, and several aces died from them failing (such as Erich Loewenhardt). A few were just injured, and injuries usually weren't anything too serious beyond maybe a sprained ankle or hurt legs. As far as I'm aware, the British, French, and Americans never handed them out to pilots. The British were entirely against the idea because they believed it would cause crews to unnecessarily abandon machines that were still flyable, even if they'd been damaged, and that was unacceptable in their view. Observation balloon crews were allowed to use them, however. I don't like the fact they're apparently including them as they are. It's not only historically inaccurate, but more importantly it detracts from the tension and the grittiness. One of the most terrifying and gruesome things about being a pilot or a gunner or whatever on an aircraft during the First World War was the simple fact that you didn't have a parachute to save your life. If something went wrong, then you were in serious trouble. And if there was a fire... there's accounts of people literally jumping to their deaths in order to escape burning alive.
Yeesh, semi-auto's got nerfed, 5 hits to kill.
So enemy hits are like vehicle hits in BF4, even if it's a killing shot you might only get 20 points.
The rifles seem to be emphasized as sniper rifles rahter than something for the average soldier to use, which is really disappointing for me, and there's way too many automatics. Should have just made a WWII game.
i dont think the game would be very fun if it was all bolt actions and semi autos.
more like battlefield 4 with ww1 guns and vehicles.
And WW1 guns and vehicles make aaaaaaall the difference for the gameplay.
Jesus Christ Terry Crews is full of so much energy. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0ySp1Hx.jpg[/t]
Gameplay looks lovely, can't wait to get my hands on the beta.
Ehhh, wasn't bad but I remain unconvinced. I suppose the Beta will be make or break.
Operations game mode seem pretty interesting.

*sigh* I know future warfare is a saturated genre right now and going for WWI was a bold move but I still wish we had 2143.
people have to remember that a lot of concessions have to be made when it comes to the setting for gameplay reasons.
That was definitely interesting. Hopefully the beta consists of a different map to the one we just saw demo'd. I'll take a stab of the beta release - August 19th.
repost from e3 thread
That jumping over to the tail gun to shoot down a chasing plane and then jumping back into the pilot seat was pretty awesome. I feel like airplane gameplay is going to be so much better now when you'll actually have to get close to other planes and won't be able to just lock on from a mile away and just fire missiles all the time.

Pretty good. I'm annoyed at a lot of the things I was expecting to be annoyed about, but overall I'm getting a mad Bad Company vibe from the game which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I was hoping (but not really expecting) they would go back to a more 1942 style of gameplay, but definitely that's not the case. I am pleasantly surprised to learn that the Zeppelin isn't an automated AT-AT type thing. That makes me a little hopeful for the Battleship that's going to be in the game and possible naval combat, but it'll probably be just like the Zeppelin mechanically and be a special one time only vehicle. One great little thing I noticed is that you can walk on top vehicles again! This was actually in Battlefront with standing on top of the AT-AT, but the AT-AT is such a weird vehicle that I wasn't completely convinced they figured it out. However in the stream there was a guy standing on top of a tank and he was just fine and moved along with the tank. Vehicle entering animations is great to finally see after over 10 years of Battlefield. There don't seem to be exit animations. I give it a Bad Company WWI/10.
That sure had a lot of smgs I'm gonna wait for the beta, but gameplay just looks very similar to bf4, just with less verticality and different setting
*post about parachutes*
Everyone having a parachute is a staple of battlefield. Further, judging by the gameplay footage, BF1 is clearly just a Battlefield game with a WWI theme, which is sad but expected.

goddamn I love the sounds in this game so far
I'm also a bit worried for how common semi-autos and full-autos were in that stream... I was hoping for a lot more of bolt action plays... It really felt like late WW2, or even post Post WW2 battles.
Everyone having a parachute is a staple of battlefield. Oh yeah, and the team narrator sounds really out of place and like a sci-fi computer lady. I was expecting a crackly radio like in 1942.
They could make it feel more "WWI" with other game modes. Like rush could be taking a trench instead of destroying two Mcoms or something.
They could make it feel more "WWI" with other game modes. Like rush could be taking a trench instead of destroying two Mcoms or something.
Operations game mode kinda sounds like Rush.
Operations is a completely new way to experience Battlefield multiplayer, giving you the opportunity to fight on an entire front of the Great War. In a sequence of inter-connected battles, a team of attackers attempts to conquer ground and push the frontline forward, as the defenders are trying to push them back. Should the defenders fail to hold their ground on a map, the Operation doesn’t stop here: they will fall back and regroup on a different map, while the attackers will push the assault. Sectors may fall, but players reinforced by gigantic Behemoths can still turn the tide.
I heard "taking objective apples" Which is awesome because that means they're using the British 1918 Phonetic Alphabet
I'm so fucking relieved. My biggest fear was this was going to be a battlefront reskin, but with vehicles that appear to be enterable and exitable on will (with ANIMATIONS!) and no token system, that's definitely not the case. I honestly did not in a million years expect direct player control of the large vehicles. [editline]12th June 2016[/editline]
Operations game mode kinda sounds like Rush.
Where is this information from?
So far im in love with the game, even tho im still worried about SMGs being prominent on the battlefield, and the female announcer, but that may be changed later, like the female voice of the RU team that was in BF4 alpha build with paracell storm. also: srsly?

For those curious, the entire 1918 British Phonetic Alphabet is as follows
Apples Butter Charlie Duff Edward Freddie George Harry Ink Johnny King London Monkey Nuts Orange Pudding Queenie Robert Sugar Tommy Uncle Vic William X-Ray Yorker Zebra
