Thoughts on game after 20 hours of alpha and 15 hours of beta. UI: Flat worse than BF4. I don't mind the minimal style so much but it feels weird to regress. It also seems rather slow, and I hate that the respawn timer bar is white on a slightly-less-white background. Can we just get a counter? Map: The parts where you have infantry and combined arms play (to an extent) are enjoyable, the badlands are awful no-cover zones where you die to marauding tanks, planes, and automobiles, and also snipers. Shitloads of snipers. E is fun to fight over but no one goes there because it's 300 meters away from the nearest non-E spawn. Bring E closer, scatter more cover between C-D village and B-F flags and it will be pretty okay. St Quentins Scar is roughly the size of Op Firestorm but it never felt that way. Train: Pretty well balanced actually, saw an even number of matches come back and fail to come back. The Anti-Air is rather broken though. Not so much the damage as the fact that getting shot by it completely fucks up the flight model. This part needs to be dialed back a bit. Classes: Again, kind of a step back from BF4, wherein all 4 classes were solid, though assault was de facto "the best" for infantry combat and engineer was a little to versatile being able to equip carbines, DMRs, shotguns, as well as PDWs. Recon had a shitload of gadgets to help their team and the most useful way to play was as actual recon moving with your squad. Support was kinda weak but offset this with C4, claymore, and a couple of gimmicky gadgets like the XM25 and UCAV. In BF1 Assault feels great and medic feels fine except for revives being drastically tuned out of the design on several levels (no more tickets, no indicators for corpses, being able to quickly go to the deploy screen). Support is really pigeonholed into "midrange defender class". Equipment choices will definitely help the latter two but if the only thing support is getting at launch is the mortar than I honestly don't see myself playing it much. Scout is a solid combat class but lost a lot of their teamplay utility that could very well come back in equipment but it will probably end up like BF3, where you really just pick the class mostly to snipe, which is a shame. Guns: Probably my favorite change from BF4. DICE wasn't afraid at all of fucking with the meta and tuned weapons to be strong in differing categories, forcing players to give up their 900 RPM laser accurate no recoil ARs and select carbines and actually play to their weapons strengths. SMGs and shotguns are great up close, LMGs and semi-autos are good at medium to long range, and bolt actions are solid at all ranges. The "random" accuracy mechanics end up adding depth to gunplay that had become simply tired after 3 games in a row with essentially no changes. There are definitely guns that are strong (MP18) and guns that are weak (most of the LMGs) but it adds flavor and depth to an aspect of Battlefield that had, in my opinion, been stagnating. Ground vehicles: Jeeps suffer from the same shoddy handling as previous Battlefield games and the horses hitbox seems a bit big. Both large tanks seem balanced as vehicles that only reach full effectiveness with 3+ people in them. The artillery truck is a bit too versatile, and the light tank is just dominate right now in the ground vehicle category. By about day 4 of the beta every single game had at least one person on each team, typically two, going on outrageous killstreaks with it. It simply has all the strengths of heavier vehicles with none of the weaknesses (slow, no turret) and only lets one person sit in it. People have been glancing around looking for ways to balance it, even claiming that it needs no balance and the AT problem is a problem with the playerbase. Frankly I think it needs a flat health decrease, which unfortunately for me DICE almost never does for vehicles. I just see no reason why a one man light tank should take the same punishment as a heavy tank that seats 6 people. Air vehicles: Enjoyable, certainly more so than BF4 and BF3. Having no helicopters is nice. There is definitely a meta regarding variants starting to be established already with the Tankbuster Attack Plane becoming the favorable interceptor with it's ability to one shot other planes and two shot the bomber with relative ease. Rockets also do absurd damage to other planes. Simply flying and gunning is a lot of fun but I'm really just pessimistic regarding this aspect of Battlefield because it tends to fall into the same trap of appealing only to very dedicated players who then make the air aspect utterly unenjoyable due to how good they are. Overall impressions: It's a Battlefield game. I generally have a lot of fun playing it until I'm put into scenarios that are literally unwinnable, or stuck on a team that simply doesn't want to play the game. The infantry combat is solid, enjoyable, and to me offers more depth and room for tactics than BF4 did while the vehicle combat right now is tilted towards tanks that feel more at home in a modern game than a WW1 title. I thought St Quentins Scar was really fun but by the end of this beta I was really just done with Sinai. I plan on buying the game so hopefully the rest of the maps are more enjoyable.
Is anyone playing BC2 Vietnam? I have an itch that needs scratched.
Bayoneting is weird One second it feels really OP but the next, you aim straight at a guy and run at his chest and somehow magically deflect and proceed to bounce around the room unable to face him. It's really hit and miss. Most of the time if the enemy gives enough of a shit to pay attention and actually shoots me as I charge then I die before I get to him. Honestly don't think they were OP at all.
That's the thing about bayonets, they're inconsistent. For one moment, you could do a fucking 90 degree corridor turn and stab a sidestapping lad while in another you could end up going through the still bastard in an open area. I'd just tweak the turn speed and make the warcries a bit louder as they're so annoying in CQC. Also make them a bit more consistent and maybe a little bit easier to dodge, melee and CQC are already wacky enough as is. [editline]9th September 2016[/editline]
[vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/yxsdgg.mp4[/vid]
sweet christ that second stab was fucking brutal
since upgrading my cpu, i went from 80-100 fps on vanilla bf4 maps, to a stable 190 fps.
man I just played some BF4 and boy does it run so much worse than BF1 for me stuttery as fuck and went from 30-50 fps, where BF1 ran at a constant 80. Sub-60fps framerates don't bother me, but it being stuttery and inconsistent does. Also I really hope there are some things they change about the BF1 UI. I dont mind it for the most part, but the lack of a clear respawn timer is really annoying. Its so hard to see, idk who thought white on white was a good idea. Also in the 10 minutes of playing I feel like I saw half the amount of revives in the entire 36 hours I spent playing the Beta. They really need to make some changes there.
Melee takedowns in 3 and 4 are so dumb. They have zero impact.
Idk, the BF4 frontal prone takedown where you kick their face over and stab them 3 times is pretty brutal
Is anyone playing BC2 Vietnam? I have an itch that needs scratched.
I reinstalled it a few weeks ago, there was still at least one populated server when I was playing it.
Speaking of BC2, I decided to give it a go again yesterday after buying it cheap during last year's sales and found it way more enjoyable than I did with BF4. Managed to turn a losing game around by working with a tank to keep repairing it and keeping people from dumping C4 on it, which stopped the other team from retaking the farm. Then on the next map after that I had a ton of fun when I saw another team's tank at low health and was out of RPGs, so I dropped down off the roof then proceeded to destroy it with the repair tool. Was worth getting killed straight after. Only thing was on the last map I got a ten minute autoban for attacking the US uncap even though there's no real alternative, since the US spawn is at the top of a hill from where they can snipe/fire RPGs at practically any part of the map. But yeah, BC2 is surprisingly active - it kinda reminds me of the BF2/2142 community that existed a couple of years ago before GameSpy died and took them down with it.

Yeaaaah... well as much as i love to hear that (and his videos in general) DICE is notorious for fucking things up from BETA to final release (netcode included, i remember BF3 vividly) so i'll contain my enthusiasm for now.
Origin doesnt want to let me pre-purchase the standard edition of BF1 :(
Tank drivers going 40-0 can only be blamed on shitty pilots. The planes wreck tanks but all pilots do is fly around herpy derping and try to shoot down other planes and forget about anything on the ground
I agree, most people flying were useless, I always bombed or 9/11'ed people
I hope that in the full game other classes get some more AT options too. Yeah, they can also use those light AT grenades but you only get one which isn't that great.

It's not hard; light tanks are juggernauts right now because nobody coordinates against them. Individual soldiers do not need to be capable of destroying tanks all by themselves imo.

The planes wreck tanks but all pilots do is fly around herpy derping and try to shoot down other planes and forget about anything on the ground
The Fokker Dr1 or whatever model they're using is terrible at taking out tanks. I think a full barrage of rockets against even the FT17 would do about 6 or 7 damage. You have to rely on the Halberstadt to do any air to ground against vehicles. The problem is the Fokker's and Flak cannons. ONE Flak cannon can completely deny almost the entirety of the map, and the Fokkers can out turn and win every dogfight against the Halberstadts. There are a couple things you can do to fight them but the tight turning radius in the hands of even a slightly competent pilot wins. The only thing you can do is when you're both turning for each other is the second time you pass each other nearly head on before settling into a turning fight is hopefully have that cannon lined up and put the shell into his fucking face. You'll have one second to shoot and move out of the way to avoid colliding I never flew the bombers so I can't say anything about them other than I never saw a bomber take out a tank with my own eyes during the entire beta By the way. It's stupid to see Brits flying these aircraft.

Here's the official feedback survey if you're interested, it's quite lengthy. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9YFYK3Y
I tried out BF4 and it really didn't hook me at all. It looks so colorless and I die way too quickly, with not enough time to react. It also doesn't have that sick WWI aesthetic.
I still can't believe the filters for colour weren't fucking optional for BF4 and 3
fuck these 1000 ticket servers i'm not sitting in this server for an hour if there's even a sliver of a chance that all that xp will get lost 40 minutes in
As long as you don't log back in the server you'll keep the XP at the end of the match.
Is anyone playing BC2 Vietnam? I have an itch that needs scratched.
I checked the other day and there was only 1 server active and it had less than 10 players Rising Storm 2 Vietnam is coming soon though, so get your playlists ready
Berdu is back with some amazing beta screenshots. http://imgur.com/a/NCFxp
Filled it out to the end. Hope it helps e: Just realized I put in the wrong EA account name, oh well :v:
Yeah, im really glad they did this. I made a few posts on the forums but I'm super glad they had this to fill out. I felt like I was able to touch on every negative and positive I had about the beta.
