is there any reason to use anything other than the shovel, pickaxe, or hatchet? Melee weapons are supposed to be quick burst damage, not a main weapon.

Those two would make interesting alternatives to the armored train.
Reminds me of the Goliath from 2142's Northern Strike expansion.
Actually, thinking of things, with the trains and the airships it seems to me that DICE is trying to use BF1 as a testing ground for concepts which could be reimagined for a 2142 sequel. Neat.
Except behemoths aren't much like Titans. Titans took all round to kill and weren't late game spawns.

Ive had the train spawn in at 70 points the enemy had 20 someone just has to really suck for it to spawn.

Probably one of my most frantic moments playing bf1

I imagine it could work whatever the case, it still comes across as a potential testing ground for future BF installments.
I'm wondering, while i very much enjoy the setting for BF1, does anyone else think a more Steampunk/Dieselpunk setting would have perhaps been better? They could have added whatever they wanted in that case and it would still be the first big game with that sort of setting. BF2142 style Titans as giant airships would have been awesome. Either way the game is great, though.

Yeah, I would've loved something a little closer to Codename Eagle, but maybe they got a dlc planned for that.

There's always a chance of a Steampunk expansion.
WW1 should never be corrupted with steampunk junk. It's the perfect time period for dieselpunk. Leave steam to Victorian times where it belongs.
xpunk stuff should stay out regardless
It's already very mildly dieselpunk, at least in that it's WWI tech operating in ways WWI tech wasn't actually capable of.
It probably shouldn't go farther than that though, at least not without spinning off into its own game.

"Dieselpunk" is pretty much alt history WW1 (sometimes WW2) anyway. It wouldn't bother me a bit. Gimme that Crimson Skies expansion for BF1

A alt history expansion in the style of BC2:Vietnam would be pretty cool. Like a "The war didnt end, military technology kept advancing" kind of scenario
Would be cool to perhaps see games touch on more obscure, but still eventful conflicts from around the same time period of the Great War. There's a lot of untapped potential such as the Mexican Revolution, Warlord Era conflicts in China (and maybe even the early Chinese Civil War), and all of the shit going down in and around Russia (Russian Revolution, Russian Civil War + Allied Intervention, and the many related conflict in the destabilized area such as the Polish Soviet war) to name a few.
Now would be the time to represent these conflicts, what with BF1 being the first real big triple A shooter set in the early 20th century.

Would be funny if they went full parody and made it a Flintstones style anachronism stew, with tanks made of rocks and pterodactyls as jetfighters.
Sad news:
http://www.anarchygaming.uk/Forum/battlefield-5/bf1-server-rentals/
* Player caps for certain modes
* Ticket/Time caps for certain modes
* No RCON tools
* No RCON restrictions like restricting explosives etc on certain maps
* Basically for Console nothing has changed
* PC is basically consoles in terms of server management.
I actually rented a BF4 server to do the Dice Camo thingy back in the day.
The inability to control the servers will piss some people off, definitely...
That's bullshit, what's DICE/EA standing to gain from neutering community control over servers? It's not as if they're losing money or anything.
Is there any way around it?
The only thing I'm okay in that is the no restrictions thing.
I paid $60 to beat your sorry ass with a shotgun and I have the right to continue doing so. Fuck your restrictions.
The rest are cancer though.
I didn't even realize LMGs became more accurate full auto. I just tried bursting and assumed they were shit because I wasn't hitting anything.
Playing BF4 some more again, I forgot how effective tap firing makes everything. Assault rifles turn into automatic sniper rifles when tap firing. I'm really glad this isn't how it works in BF1.
BF4 guns seem pretty inaccurate to me even with tapping.
I have a 1080, I made about 120-130 FPS in ultra which is fine since I have a g-sync monitor.
Why? A battlefield game with alternate history would be awesome. They could come up with pretty much anything they want. Before launch there was some dieselpunk concept art that quite a lot of people were hoping the game would be based off.
So on reflection what are your opinions of using the Seven Nation Army remix for the announcement trailer?

I still like it and think it fits. A lot of people argued that the electronic feel didn't jibe with WW1 but I think it sounds very raw and powerful. It was good for the intense action the trailer was demonstrating and I think it was a good way to come out and say that WW1 wasn't as slow as it's perceived to be in modern times.
I thought their use of the feedbacky noise bit during the cut with the shell-shocked artilleryman was very clever.
It fits mainly due to it being cut around the music
the beta is no longer available/free is it?
If not, where can I get my hands on it?
I honestly like the idea of the LMGs in the beta, The accuracy ramping mechanic seemed to promote avoiding direct confrontation and instead focusing on getting a good midrange position. In a good place the accuracy ramp lets you wipe entire groups of enemies provided you don't stop firing, or at the very least keep them suppressed. If you think of the LMGs more like a tool for that scenario rather than a primary run and gun then you'll get far better results, I think it's another example of Dice trying to give each class a different style of play over BF3/4's homogenised gameplay.
The big problem with that is overheating though, going to the effort of getting a good position seems wasted when you're limited to only about 30 rounds at a time when using the LMGs as intended. as it stands overheating really seems to conflict with the other mechanics, it would be better with a much longer time to overheat or possibly even no overheat at all across the board in my opinion.
The problem with that is by the time you've spun up the gun you're going to get domed by everyone and their uncle playing scout.

Beta's completely over mate.

Damn. I was never really into battlefield scene, but after watching the trailer and some videos - I though I'd give it a shot. Guess I was too late.
