I stopped playing it when ESO came out and I haven't played it since, but it's still a fun game and I'd play it if a friend wanted to
also lol that title... "going western 2013"
I'm just gonna play on a PSO1 private server. Sega hates money??
I would play PSO2 in a heartbeat if it got a western release.
But Sega is retarded and think us gaijins only like Sonic.
You can take Sonic and shove it up your ass, Sega. I'm sick of that blue prick.
Gimme robo-titties and laser swords/guns you greedy shits.

The problem is after so many years we've all given up and a bunch of western players wouldn't even play on a western server because we have so much progress on the japanese ones
The problem with SEGA is, unlike Nintendo and Sony, all of the power of SEGA is SEGA of Japan, where as Nintendo JP and Sony JP both allow their respective branches in EU/NA have some business power as long as JP says so, pretty much SEGA NA/EU are just figureheads.
I have a long time friend that used to be a CM for SEGA NA back when PSO Blue Blue launched for PC. He said that literally that SEGA of NA was a chicken with its head cut off because they usually knew nothing until SEGA of japan told them information. He said SEGA of JP has this theory that foreigners won't like their less western known titles, so they don't release them or hold content back. PSO BB and PSU were prime suspects of this. PSU launched in japan months before NA/EU yet when the it did release SEGA of JP decided not to patch in any of the content that had already been made, this is why PSU failed in a major way, because SEGA of JP dragged it's ass to give permission to SEGA of NA/EU to localize patches. PSU JP was usually like 3 content patches ahead, and a majority of the content that was released on PSU JP never even hit NA/EU, which led a lot of people to feel that SEGA had just abandoned them.
Basically the culture of SEGA JP is self destructive and comes off as them not caring about any non-JP customers. This whole trend of announcing a game, then never localizing it, or fans cry out to localize a game in a series they like, and then SEGA never responds. This leads to NA/EU players having to play PSO2 JP, which leads to witch hunts on NA/EU players by JP players who don't like foreigners playing on their JP servers. Anyone who frequents PSO World knows that there are quite a few JP players on PSO2 who will report anyone with speaking English or with a very English-looking character name, overall PSO2 will never see the light of day. I always ask my friend who is a CM at SEGA of NA when it's coming out, and his response is always, "You'd have better lucky calling SEGA of JP and asking them."

yep! i started playing again pretty frequently on ship 2 after creec brought it up in another thread recently
got taggart to try it out as well but he hasn't been playing all that much. oh well~
new lobby design for episode 3 is pretty swank, and mesetan shooter is actually somewhat fun.
haven't tried out the bouncer class yet tho, i've been too busy trying out fighter since i never unlocked it before either.
haze sorceress still best set tbh

I haven't played since 2012 , so I'm trying to give it a chance againn
I just remembered Valkyria Chronicles was made by Sega as well and didn't give us jackshit after the first game and a half. There was even a movement to get their stuff localized.
Instead we get Sonic Boom Boom: The Rise of My Blood Pressure, and the 3DS version, Shitty Character Design.
Sorry again for the ranting.
Now, on the actual topic: How good is the English Patch for PSO2?
Does anyone still play this game lol.
i played a shit ton a few months ago, grinded a lot for maid dresses and still have a lot to go for other cosmetic shit, just kinda stopped playing with my friend after a while because other games and just uninstalled it one day
been itching to get back into it tho

whats translated is good, though there are some things still left untranslated. might have been the tutorials and such or random text log things you find in the field? forgot

I've played up to level 40 something with the english patch and it does fantastic work, the only problem is the item patch doesn't come with it. There is some random things that bother me like item names and such because even if you do translate it you'd need to use the japanese name to search it in item shops and such

There's a few typos in quest descriptions, but other than that it's pretty comprehensive. AIDA & crew maintain it pretty well and are always quick to get out at least a basic patch after an update. I think the story is translated all the way up until matterboard 16 now, although it might've gotten 17 in a recent patch.
Things that aren't translated:
- A few miscellaneous fetch quest items. Usually newer quests, there might be an old few laying around
- A few consumables from old events that aren't normally possible to obtain anymore. the only people affected are hoarders that have been playing for forever tbh
- Message packs (the little useless text boxes out in missions). I think they translated a few waaay back but they stopped because there's no point in reading them.
- A few "navigator" dialog boxes. They pop up ocassionally when out on a mission telling you useless information like "There might be some enemies coming soon!!!". I think "Henrietta" is the only one who isn't translated still?
- Tutorial popups. They're mostly useless as long as you know to follow your arks road card. It would be nice to have them translated though. But there's a huge list of (outdated) guides on bumped
- Anything that gets added in recent patches. This stuff usually has the highest priority for translation, but you can expect a week or so from the patch date where you can't read the quests/items. They've already patched in a fair amount of menu text for the casino, and are working on the items related to the casino itself atm

everything is pretty easy to install with the PSO2 tweaker. for the item patch you literally just tick a single box
[t]http://i.imgur.com/7KJqY3T.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/UGPGpM3.png[/t]
in most menus you can copy the japanese name by hovering over it and pressing Ctrl+C, or the english name with Ctrl+Shift+C
you can even set the key to enable/disable the item patch on the fly in the tweaker as well
If you know the exact english name of an item, you can usually search for it pretty easily. I wish i could give you an example, but the servers are currently in maintenance, and i didn't think to save a screenshot of this particular menu. It's worked for everything i needed it for at least.
Basically it involves inputting the exact english name with "Camel Case" (Haze hat = Haze Hat), then clicking "P. Search" in the player shop search menu. It'll then pop up a new window, which should show you "japanese_name | english_name". Copy that text, erase everything after/including the pipe character, and then use that to search.
You might even be able to use the correct "Camel Case" english name to search in player shops, but once again i can't confirm that claim with the servers being offline atm. I agree that it would be nice if they could enable case-insensitive searching, but i'm not sure if there's a technical limitation involved behind that. They're already doing some pretty funky magic just translating everything already.
there's always the option to look up the english/japanese names on cirnopedia, but you're probably already aware of that, and it requires actually leaving the game, so it's not that great of an option~
But...isn't there an SEA server in english out already?

I understand and can write a bit of japanese/have a japanese keyboard installed so I mostly went the way of using japanese for items but that sounds like a really well done item patch, though I don't even want to know how they did the extra GUI without getting flagged hard in the anti-cheat
got taggart to try it out as well but he hasn't been playing all that much. oh well~
mostly cos busy
but hey, this weekend I'll probably play a lot so yeah, look forward to it?

http://pso2.playpark.com/en/
they ip-blocked everyone that's not in SEA region
they also renamed force to "wizard"
it's slightly different than what's currently going on in JP region, where after the DDOS they got hammered with, they just stopped maintaining their international connections making it harder to find their server because no international ISPs knows where the server even is

it's even protected by gameguard so i'm pretty sure they're freakin' [del]wizards[/del] forces
the GUI isn't extra btw. it's a actual in-game feature next to the search box that normally allows you to search for related items from a partial search (hence: p. search). I'm pretty sure partial search works for english names, but you have to remember to capitalize literally every word at all times.
got some pictures of the player shop partial search with item patch enabled!

it occasionally has problems finding certain items, and i'm not sure why
for example, "haze" can show: nothing, only haze hat, haze&night, haze&crimson, all the haze hats, etc
[t]http://i.imgur.com/qAk6Tih.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/nwF2f5w.png[/t]
it seems to have something to do with what you've already loaded into the cache database? Because there's tons more souls than just those 4, but those are the only 4 that show up in a search because i currently have items in my inventory with those souls.

I think you need to use a VPN or something to play on that if you're not in a certain country, and it's behind the Japanese server
I got all excited seeing this thread bumped up, thought there was new western release info :(
I still play this game a lot.
My friends and I are on ship 6 though.
how do I stop receiving emails I can't read nihongo
I tried picking this up again and while it's fun, I don't remember shit about how to play :v
aaaaa i got my Dudu chain from the livestream secret message in my message box yay
[t]http://i.imgur.com/eqYsy9T.jpg[/t]
i can now carry dudu with me everywhere i go 10/10
[editline]hi[/editline]

this is the best thanks sega
Anyone know if ship 2 is down, I can't connect to it. Keep getting error code 249.
Anyone know if ship 2 is down, I can't connect to it. Keep getting error code 249.
ship 2 isn't down, i'm on it right now
Error code 249 is due to the "ddos mitigation" backlash that sega did which makes their server nearly impossible to connect to by most international IPs
if you don't have one of a few specific ISPs you can't connect, unless you use a proxy

Ah, thanks!
[editline]5th September 2014[/editline]
Used a proxy and I can connect now. Thanks man! :D
Quna had a performance in the shop area yesterday, so i decided to attend since i wanted to head to the EQ that was directly after it anyways. Unfortunately the block for "Very Hard" difficulty was completely full so i had to settle for "Hard" (my Fi is only lvl 43 atm anyways).
When i arrived, there was a multitude of weebs dancing silently dancing on the spot the stage was set to arrive upon. I should've realized how the rest of the time would've gone when they started spamming Symbol Arts constantly 10+ minutes before the show was set to start, but at this point i was mostly still ignoring it.
The time for the show arrives, and half of the crowd starts repeatedly jumping up and down, abusing "/toge" and spamming symbol arts covering most of the screen. Thankfully you could press [square] (i use a PS3 controller) to get a closer camera view, but unfortunately you could still see chat bubbles & symbol art in that view so it didn't help much! Shortly through the song itself they started spamming symbol arts about how quna should get naked (wtf weebs), although after a while they must've gotten tired because it eventually died down to about 1 symbol art every 5 seconds.
Eventually the "concert" ended and we all recieved a small bonus (Triboost +10%). Then TD3 (tower defense 3), the EQ i was waiting for, started up so i headed to the campship. At this point i just wanted to get the EQ over with, and didn't think about everything that happened up to that point.
It was terrible.
in the first attempt we lost all of our bases by the 6th wave.
In the second attempt, we lost them all by the 4th wave.
I was in the top 3 of the wave for every wave, even though i'm a twindagger fighter, and i only used my AIS once, and i probably was tied for the most photon particles collected...
Disappointed that this never came out in the west and I doubt it will ever be.
Don't understand whats so hard about it.

just play the JP version tbh
it's pretty well known that there's tons of gaijin on ship 2 (and 4), and most japanese players know that if they choose that ship they will be surrounded by them. block 201 (or 210? i forget) is pretty much the dedicated "japanese meetup" block on ship 2 for when they just want to get away from the terrible english speakers ruining their mmo experience.
like for instance there was a few (3 or so?) japanese players hanging out at the "hard" Quna concert. Near the beginning someone asked if Quna would understand "encore" or if it needed to be said in english. One of the japanese players politely responded, in japanese, something along the lines of "Quna is japanese so she probably only understands japanese". Near the end they mostly passively aggresively complained by saying stuff like "so noisy", but then again i felt the same way as them by the end. It's no wonder so many japanese players hate english players if this is what they normally see.
people regularly talk in english in local on ship 2, especially during MPAs and in block 20 (don't go to block 20 btw it's worse than what was at that quna concert).most party names when looking at the party list are also in english. a lot of guild names are in english, and openly state in their recruitment process if they accept international players or not.
aside from:
- the inability to really get any support from support tickets
- that in order to buy arks cash you need to do it through PSO2es (which is honestly pretty easy to set up by installing bluestacks on your computer if you don't have an android phone like me)
- you're a baka gaijin
there's really not much bad about playing it now
p sure a person on the dev team even thought it was cool that we were so determined to play the game after the DDOS, in a livestream
the weeaboo presence is indeed terrible
thank god we stay on blocks where they aren't in force
and when i mean "baka gaijin", imagine those brazilian players in F2P english MMOs who join BR zerg guilds that use the brazilian flag, and ironically/unironically say stuff like "br huehue" or "gib moni pls". You know the ones i mean; i know you do.
there's good brazilian players, just like there's good english players, but you're going to at least somewhat subconciously group people together, and unfortunately when you play as an english player you're going to be lumped in with those annoying weebs.
