Is the item patch enabled in the tweaker?

i tried both with it on and with it off. still getting server connection timed out.
Alright, tired of waiting for a western release I've decided to just say fuck it and grab the english patch thingy. I've got the installer downloading right now and have that arks site bookmarked, but is there anything else I should know?

You'll probably want to join Ship 2 as that's where everyone plays (except me cos I'm stupid)
These are some sites I use often:
English wiki: (Still being fully updated to ep3)
http://pso2.cirnopedia.info/#nav
English update blog/guides: (You probably already went through this one)
http://www.bumped.org/psublog/category/phantasy-star-online-2/
Japanese wiki: (Has more info than the English one, but it's in jap)

Okay, so I cannot for the life of me get this working. I got the tweaker all installed any everything but then I kept getting this error on trying to connect to a ship/server. Fixed that problem with the PSO2Proxy thing but now whenever I try to connect to a ship/server it just gives me a connection timed out message. I've searched around and all the places are simply telling me to have my item translations on, which they are.

i'm not sure if pso2tweaker needs to be run as administrator or not but you could always try that first and see if it works
or go in the troubleshooting section of the menu and diagnose connection problems, or fix errors and things
alternatively try the manual options located here:
https://github.com/cyberkitsune/PSO2Proxy
alternatively you can ask AIDA/cyberkitsune about it personally. just join the IRC channel and they'll normally be on prime time USA.
Server: irc.badnik.net
channel: pso2proxypublic
users: aida, cyberkitsune
(Note: this chat displays in-game to everyone currently using the free proxy, so you might want to personally message them instead. you can ask everyone in there if they're available tho they usually are nice)
I got it working, I just went to the troubleshoot thing on the tweaker and just hit all the fixes until it started working. Thanks anyways.
What's one of the more fun classes to play? I've been thinking about doing a new character as someone other than Force. Everyone other class seems so fun when they're using it yet force is pretty repetetive and simple. Can anyone make some suggestions?
the most fun ive had is using twin machine guns, so damned agile and does p good damage
I've been using a braver as my main and it's pretty fun. You have both a good melee and ranged game.
I was thinking just maxing out my force then just grinding the rest as subclasses. Can I do that?

I really enjoyed braver bow when i played it.
- Penetrating arrow allows you to hit everything in a line, master shot can do a homing cone, kamikaze arrow launches your player as if there's a large energy crossbow firing you, etc.
- Arrow rain/gravity bomb aren't that great, but they're also a fun gimmick occasionally.
- You mostly charge your shots and aim for weakpoints. Go into alternate camera mode (I think it's TAB if you're using a keyboard?. i don't know i use a PS3 controller) to do manual aiming and it's really relaxed yet engaging at the same time.
- Everyone plays katana braver tho because they're casul weebs who like to minmax.
Right now i'm a Twin Dagger Fighter, which i enjoy a ton. It's a highly mobile glass cannon. They have very poor AOE damage though, so they're pretty gimped in tower defense emergency quests.
- Symphonic drive allows you to target a specific point then do a homing dropkick on it.
- If you combine it with a subclass of Hunter, you can use it's "healing guard" and "never give up" to regain some health every time you dodge and have a 75% chance to come back to life in case you fuck up and actually get hit.
- then once you're in the air you can use the "guard"/"dodge" to infinitely twirl in the air at a specific spot if you continue to time it correctly. This will allow you to lurk over most bosses without getting hurt, waiting for the opportune time to strike, and then swoop in for massive damage. The healing guard from the hunter subclass also triggers on most dagger attacks because they have short invincibility frames, so if you time it correctly you can continuously damage a boss without getting hurt, and gain life back at the same time
- twin dagger gear builds up your power meter every time you jump or do your guard, so it's designed as a class to stay in the air at all times for maximum damage, which requires you to constantly time your dodges properly and utilize symphonic drive to move around.
- Limit break caps your health at 25%, but at the same time allows you to regen PP at an insane rate, as well as increase your damage by a ton if you spec into everything near it in the tree.
- i use these PAs mostly: symphonic drive -> wild rhapsody -> facet folia.
you can also use knuckles/double sabers with fighter but i don't enjoy their gameplay so i don't use them personally although some people do!

you can switch to every class/subclass freely at any time by visiting the class counter.
it'll take you quite a long time to grow up your force though so i suggest trying them all out for at least a mission or two to see if you enjoy any of the others more. After 40 the exp table starts to curve upwards, and it's a cliff after level 60.
How much of the game is translated exactly? I got through the first mission and as soon as I got to the lobby there seemed to be nothing else translated (There were also bits in the mission that weren't translated). I re-installed the english patches but that didn't seem to help. Did I mess up somewhere again or is this just an untranslated bit?

Are forces really considered slow levelers? My character was mostly a force/techer and they ripped through enemies so fast that I outleveled everyone I was playing with really quickly

The english patch is for the interface and most mission objectives, it doesn't really translate any story or item names. I think there's a WIP story patch but I've never tried it

force and ranger are currently the "OP pls nerf" classes
they're not slow levelers, leveling is just slow.
---
it translates almost the entire story up until episode 3 which was just released. it's WIP but literally almost the entire story is translated, and if you don't install the story patch most of the NPCs aren't translated. The story patch is only like 18mb anyways so why not try it out and see for yourself???

I have installed it, hence why I am confused as to why many things are not translated in game.
Do you have all of the patches installed? Item, Large Files, Story, Enemy/E-Trails, and general English?
I went back and looked at everything that i knew was translated before, and there's a few things that got rewritten when episode 3 hit. most of the quests and filler NPC dialog got changed in episode 3 so even though there used to be a translation there it's no longer valid.
for example, almost all client orders were fully translated before, but a large percentage of them only have the yellow text translated. Then again the yellow text is the only text you need to actually know in the client orders. Some select client orders that didn't change at all are still fully translated though.
Likewise most emergency quests are also still fully translated.
the story is still fully translated though, because sega is not exactly going to change anything in the story itself, only add to it. All of the items/monsters are still fully translated, but it still has the "bug" where you sometimes need to fully load a menu twice in order to get the translations for them.
and eventually the rest of the useless npc filler text will be retranslated again in a couple of months. keep in mind that a somewhat large update hit just a couple of weeks ago
[editline]hi[/editline]
i went through and made a video of what my PSO2 looks like with the english patches, because i needed it to validate the information above, and i went through various menus (at a glance) to see what is and isn't translated.

All of the critical information is there, all of the useless stuff can be glossed over and you can still get the basic idea. Some useless NPC text is actually there still because it never changed, like the shopkeepers.
What are people using to get around the ISP block anyhow?
Do you have all of the patches installed? Item, Large Files, Story, Enemy/E-Trails, and general English?
I installed everything in the tweaker.
English Patch, English Large Files and English Story Patch (New Method)
[editline]23rd September 2014[/editline]
To be exact, the female cast who starts talking to you as soon as you enter the lobby wasn't translated for me and none of the NPCs in the lobby (save for their greetings) appear to be translated. There were also random parts in the tutorial that were not translated.

Yea it looks like that. Okay that means my game is translated up to date. Thanks

How is Bouncer? Does it seem like an alternative to force/techer?
What are people using to get around the ISP block anyhow?
most people do this:
you can host your own with:
https://github.com/cyberkitsune/PSO2Proxy
although if you don't mind sharing an IP with thousands of other people you can use the publicly hosted one:
http://pso2proxy.cyberkitsune.net/
i just use the free public one because i don't really care all that much. if sega wanted to they would've banned the IP with 600+ simultaneous MAC addresses but they still haven't yet, so i'm sure it's safe enough right? (yeaaaa)
btw you can view the amount of people currently connected to the public proxy, as well as a few other stats, by visiting this url:
http://linode.cyberkitsune.net:8080/
you can also use this to test your ping to his server
ping linode.cyberkitsune.net
and then add 3-5ms to it to get your actual ping
some people use amazon vpn or some other vpn
as long as it can connect to pso2.jp you're golden
How is Bouncer? Does it seem like an alternative to force/techer?
Bouncer is pretty fun. Jet Boots are fast and mobile and they give you a double jump(!!). Twin Blades are sort of Twin Dagger-esque, sort of, and their first photon art is this pretty sweet dash thing. Also Bouncers can use Techniques so that's nice.
EDIT: And another thing, Jet Boots and Twin Blades each have a Gear skill. Jet Boot Gear makes it so that for a time after casting a spell (and this increases in power with each subsequent cast of the same element) you deal elemental damage with standard attacks, while Twin Blade Gear allows you to fire homing 'photon blades' at enemies after enough attacks in a row by hitting Shift. I think that attacking enemies with photon blades embedded in them causes you to regain PP per hit, which is neat.
I have this curse when it comes to games with character customization. I'll make a character, play with said character for around 20 minutes then decide I don't like him/her and restart the game. I repeat these steps until the character is perfect (I still have PTSD from Oblivion). So I'll probably be doing that for the rest of tonight.
That being said would anyone be willing to play with me tomorrow? If it's anything like the other Phantasy Star games, then it'll be boring to solo.
i would play but i'm still getting this server connection being timed out. i'll try and fix it tonight and if not, oh well.

I hit the first three in the order they appear, then reapplied the translations.
Servers should be down either now or very soon so its not worth it at this point.
Maintenance every tuesday night for 6ish hours
