By the way did Valve ever announce that they did this or did they just expect everyone to figure it out? There are a few people I know who stopped playing because they dropped 3 ranks.

My friend's cousin was Nova 3 before the update, and was saying shit like "I am finally getting good", now he is Silver 4 and is quitting the game. I am just happy I can have Global as a goal again.

Also, you were inactive for 2 months, so a bit of rank dropping is expected, the shift just amplified that.

I went on a spending spree - got a Stat-Trak version of every skin I enjoy (that's a reasonable price) for every weapon except knife. Goal complete (ish, still want to get a luxury knife eventually and maybe upgrade some of my Stat-Traks into better ones).

wow ok russians are definitely 'something' in this game. I pretend not to understand any word they say but in reality I get all of it and it hurts listening to the gibberish they say and how a guy uses knife only for three rounds straight and us losing the match.

So eagle is no longer a huge skill range, supreme is no longer filled of absolute fucking retards who clearly are not at that skill level and global is now the best of the best like it should be. MM rank means little, stop with the "I'm better than this so I deserve it" attitude, if you want the "old" rank back, go improve yourself so you fall inside the new skill group.

I have absolutely no problem working my way up again, since it's pretty much "high morale smurfing" as stated by rider695. All I was stating is how screwed up valve's ranking systems currently are, since I was placed in a bracket much lower than my usual teammates of the same skills, and have also encountered enemies which obviously did not belong into their current skill bracket either. You don't have to be an ass about it.

To be honest, it came across as complaining about your rank because of the way you worded it.

Though then again they might always be a thing. It is pretty tiring to have people constantly go "OH FOR FUCKS SAKE WHY AM I X NOW I USED TO BE Y AND I STILL BELONG IN Y" so people become near automatically asses about rank discussion.
