Suddenly 1 guy from our team disappears and in the chat box "X HAS BEEN BANNED FROM OFFICIAL MATCHMAKING SERVERS" or something.
Im assuming this is an overwatch ban?

Because there are people that have cheated and have gotten a lighter punishment than them

They don't reset, you can only get the 2016 medal now.

Because casually cheating in a non-serious matter isn't as bad as scamming for thousands of thousands of dollars? I still wish they got a second chance, but I fully understand Valve if they choose not to.

Correct. Any cheating detected by valve (cheats or throwing games etc.) is a lifetime ban from valve sanctioned events.
