Holy christ, the castle super puzzle has me stumped. Not the hedge maze one - I got that - but the other. Some of the shapes it's asking for seem impossible. Hell, now that I've found the shapes tutorial some of the tutorial ones seem impossible. 4 lasers in and I'm already getting rocked. EDIT: As soon as I post that, I get an answer that doesn't seem right but is. Frustrating, but at least the others afterward made sense. EDIT2: After going back to it, it's straight up a bugged solution. Disappointing for a tutorial section. EDIT3: Disregard that, I'm an idiot. Boy this is going to be a rough game.
Is this the one you thought was bugged? https://embed.gyazo.com/b03959c933c6aa603942567cc79e90b7.png Cause I'm there too and I can't think of any other possible solution which just makes that seem like it's broken.

It did take me a long time to figure out exactly how these work, here's a little hint. [sp]The shapes cannot overlap[/sp]

[sp]The shapes cannot overlap[/sp]
What? But I've solved a few of the previous example puzzles with [sp]them overlapping. Did I completely misunderstand how the shapes work? And if so, how else would that one work? There isn't enough space for the 3-block pieces to fit under the line piece if they can't overlap.[/sp]
Oh damn had no idea it was getting released this week. I really love games like this.
I've seen some people dislike the fact that the puzzles are generally the same idea just with different rules but I personally love it, can't put my finger on why though.
I've seen some people dislike the fact that the puzzles are generally the same idea just with different rules but I personally love it, can't put my finger on why though.
That's not even the true though, those people probably have only played the first 30 minutes or so, the puzzles get waaaaaaaay past just the basic idea really quickly.

Mine was in the tutorial row, second side, like 2nd or 3rd panel. And as for that puzzle: [sp]No, shapes cannot overlap. They can stick together so long as that shape's symbol is in the shape, but said shape doesn't have to touch its symbol. I didn't understand that for the tutorial bit and accidentally hit a solution that followed that rule, but hadn't taught it yet. For the puzzle you linked it would be[/sp] DOUBLE SPOILER DON'T CLICK UNLESS YOU READ THE PREVIOUS [sp]An L shape with a fat vertical part. The two three bars would make the vertical bit and the 4 bar would make the base. Since those symbols all exist within that final shape, where those shapes exist within it doesn't matter.[/sp] I've since beaten the game and made a lot more sense of it.

Have you done the two panels that are connected to the metal gate nearby? That might help.[/sp]
Wait, so [sp]do the shapes have to be exactly around the spot that the picture is on, or does it just have to be inside of the same area separated by a line that contains that shape?[/sp]
Wait, so [sp]do the shapes have to be exactly around the spot that the picture is on, or does it just have to be inside of the same area separated by a line that contains that shape?[/sp]
The latter.
Ooooooooh that explains everything
Yeah I was having trouble with that too, I couldn't even enter the rock quarry area because it was gated by one of those puzzles.
Ooooooooh that explains everything
Yeah that's why my mind was so fucked on this puzzle so early on. I didn't really get what I was supposed to do and in a thoughtful messing around got that answer and went :what: But figuring that out then made it much easier going forward.
I use to read the negative reviews first before buying a game. I find it interesting that almost all negative reviews that are calling the game shallow are written by people with less than 2 hours in the game. I assume the game becomes more interesting the more you progress into it?

I got another question regarding the shapes: [sp]can gaps count as edges of a shape?[/sp]

Maybe it appears shallow because your only interaction with the world is through these puzzle panels, but they do a lot with the concept.
What time did it take for those of you that have beat it? Is it a 70+ hour game, or more in the 7-10 hour standard?
Idiotech did a video on The Witness after playing for an hour. His main point of criticism is that the beautiful world serves absolutely no purpose and the game boils down to 2D maze puzzles. I've had the same impression from all the pre-release trailers and gameplay videos. Does the game change later on? Is there an actual use for the world or does it stay a really beautiful level-selection menu?

I should check it out after I finally finish The Talos Principle.
Does anyone know how many lasers there are in total?
Someone help me out here. I just finished the Red Gate area [sp](still don't know what that green chord with the transparent panels was for)[/sp] and I got to the Sand Temple. The heck do I do here with these red panels?
i really like the game, the world and the atmosphere but oh boy do some of the puzzles make me want to scream and yell at everything
Does anyone know what does this puzzle in the swamp area do? http://u.cubeupload.com/simkas/shot20160127time1942.png I've tried it with multiple solutions, they all register as correct, but nothing happens after that. Does it just open something that can also be opened some other way that I might have done earlier?
For the red panels Minor hint [sp]All of the information you need is on the panel[/sp] Bigger hint[sp]Try looking at things from another angle[/sp]
holy fuck that was genius
The stuff in that tree temple place was really fucking cool. Though, I can't figure out how to open the back entrance into that area, the one that you come to though all those rocks. It's not even necessary but I'd still like to solve that one. I don't really see anything around that would help me solve in a similar way to how all the other puzzles there worked.
[sp]... James Burke?[/sp]
[sp]... James Burke?[/sp]
My jaw dropped when I saw that.
