Was rather pointless but retail levels can be loaded in the alpha providing you change the version number without too many issues.

Works sort of too, I guess.
Edit: YouTube is being a bitch about processing.
I'm pretty sure that's just an early version of the Anti-Mass Spectrometer. Also, it being called the "Portal Machine" or whatever is just a weird coincidence.
Well, when it opens an unstable rift between two locations, what else would you call it? Black Mesa made a mess when they were induced by some form of outside intervention to come across a 'pure sample' which when placed under their Anti-Mass Spectrometer under an unprecedented power level opened a portal to an alien world.
Perhaps Aperture Science managed the same discovery without the disaster, but using the same technology essentially as what allowed the combine to come to earth (From what I understand from the plot of Portal 2, [sp]Altered Moon Dust[/sp]. It's also implied that this technology was being discovered far before the Black Mesa incident, so who's to say that Aperture Science under a misguided attempt to sabotage Black Mesa's reputation and hopefully open up a slot for their company to come under consideration by the US Government when they would, after whatever happened, be looking for someone who can understand portal technology. In Portal, you wake up in a testing facility presumably after the Combine takeover, in one of the still standing and rapidly mentally degrading AI remnants of Aperture Science's unethical business practices.
Cave Johnson is established as a bit of a madman, and we love him for it. But who's to say that He didn't send them an amount of the solidified Orange Gel (A pure sample of something very unusual), which accelerates and rebounds everything that hits it. When The Anti-Mass Spectrometer was fired, the orange gel reflected and exponentially accelerated the energy in every direction, creating a form of dimensional rift.
Cave Johnson can be suspected to be unknowingly or knowingly responsible for the Combine reckoning.
So, when is he going to upload it?
He's moving sometime this month and he'll look for the disc whilst doing that. So I'd say give it a month.
Edit: Marphy and Dr. Awesome, y'all some niggas.

Just post it in Valve games and mods when he does.

read the op
read the op
Read, always starts up with a "encountered a problem" error even if opengll32.dll is removed
Game is actually pretty hard, no armor and what seems like OP NPCs or very low health, one hit killing headcrabs.
So as it turns out that Half Life had decent shadow capability, was Half Life the first game to introduce character shadows?

Read what? It's not our fault if you don't go into specifics.

Shadows have been there since GLQuake.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has an unused object which creates dynamic shadows
not sure if it counts though
No point doing a decompiler, I can do a straight conversion to Half-Life. Is that really wanted though? The models are shit.
they're low-quality, but not shit. they're a massive peice of valve history and to have them in usable format would be godly.

(Sorry if the image is a bit too small)
Can anyone help me with this? I loaded the map I made in the Alpha's WC and the textures don't show. /:

Try this .exe
It basically prevents the game from trying to print something incredibly large into the console if you really want to know (which is related to newer NVidia cards).
You can do that over the NVidia control center aswell, but this patch is permanent so whatever.

He downloaded it from a Sierra FTP?
I hope it's not just Day One or Uplink

Nah it isn't, this was in '97 and as I said earlier he said there wasn't even hand models.
[editline]9th January 2013[/editline]
This was something he applied for, not a demo he download from Sierra.
It might be the build from the early HL1 trailers.

I wouldn't be surprised if he recognized the maps in the top video, they likely have been around since almost the beginning.
how do i fix the mouse spazzing out?
whenever i load up a map, the screen goes in circles, and doesn't stop, moving the mouse down just moves it down for a few seconds before it starts looking up again and going in circles
ffffff
0x<insertcorruptionhere>
in other news the vodoo gs8 lighting has been implemented, its not stable, and runs at 2fps.
Theres got to be an overflow somewhere.

Same here, are you playing on a laptop with a touchpad? It might be recognizing it as a Joystick.
