launch the program with this tool in gl mode, find a decent shot with any models you'd like, and hit ctrl+shift+F
it works as 3d ripper gx would and also captures textures
the program may need some settings tweaked. make sure to capture normals and texture coordinates (unless you'd like to waste hours texturing it yourself)
after closing the program, all models should be in documents\xtracted
no bones or animations yet
this program also works on other opengl apps
edit: guy who wanted the raw models - this how I got them

thank you very much for sharing. personally i'll be waiting for a direct converter (as i want the animations) but this is very useful nonetheless.

pistol and mp5 in .obj format (for use in 3ds max or something)
yes I did a shitty job texturing them but they were sorta rushed because that day I had to go somewhere while I was working on them
and here's all of my captures, including textures. these are completely raw and untextured and I haven't bothered to do much with them. the scientist's in there somewhere as well as the blue panthereye. the captures are rotated to the side because all of my captures were taken while looking in a direction, therefore "moving the entire world". it shouldn't be too difficult to turn them. the normals probably have to be inverted too

well, we now have a way to rip the models, the question now is how to texture and rig them (at least i couldnt find out how to do textures)
Were getting ever so closer to getting these models. Awesome :)

I'd still rather someone make a decompiler as ripping them directly can be ehhhh

true, true, Im just trying to think ahead, because the only progress we've seen is very minimal. so i'm trying to figure this out now, thats all

adding 5328907983462799723 levels of camera shake, lens flare, bloom, motion blur, lights, phong mapping, bumpmapping, and other shit that looks "amazing" will make your game 10/10

If you guys are implying that Crysis 3 looks bad, you two have some eye issues. The game is just technologically advanced, dynamic water, foggy light shafts, *real* dynamic ambient area lighting, just tons of stuff you are looking past. And if you consider lights, phong mapping, bumpmapping, tesselation, per pixel motion blur, dynamic cloth and foliage physics, bokeh DoF and HDAO ugly, then you've got some pretty hazy fucking nostalgia goggles.

thing is games need to stop using so much fucking bloom and brightness
that's mainly my only problem

Bloom is usually used to hide actually bad console graphics.

You mean blur (depth of field)? Bloom is a lighting effect.

So what ever happened to that guy who said his friend had a version of the alpha that was earlier than 0.52?

His friend was going to move within the next month and was going to try to look for the disk then.

Anyone notice the HD pack for Half-life is now mandatory?...
Anyone notice the HD pack for Half-life is now mandatory?...
I thought this was the linux port only? Valve refuses to update GoldSrc that the CS 1.6 community is dying to have, but they'll do that? Blah.
Anyone notice the HD pack for Half-life is now mandatory?...
huh, so that's the reason my hl1 updated

oh boy pageking.
Anyone notice the HD pack for Half-life is now mandatory?...
Actually from my experience with the new mac version that came out today, it seems as if valve just decided to use the content from the hd pack as the default and doesn't actually download the pack from steam. Found out about this when I decided to see if it did automatically download the hd pack from steam, by installing the SD pack, and it worked perfectly.

I can't get the Mac version to load up. It starts, says I'm in game and immediately quits.

Exact same problem I'm having also, except it was when I decided to get counter-strike and it just happened suddenly even though it was playing just fine before. I just reported the problem to Steam support. Lets just hope this gets fixed soon.
Edited:
Found something interesting in the files for the mac version of Half-Life. While on my quest to see if other content packs worked for this port, I found folders inside the main folder of the game that corresponded with almost every GoldSrc game thats on Steam. This Includes Blue Shift, Opposing Force, CS: Condition Zero, Deathmatch Classic, Day of Defeat, heck even TFC. Just thought it was interesting that those games may get ports in the near future also.
Edited:
Well it looks like the issue just resolved itself for me. Strange.
Anyone notice the HD pack for Half-life is now mandatory?...
HD pack just doesnt match the feel of goldsrc HL
Wait, there is a Mac version of Half-Life 1? I need a source and/or more info
Wait, there is a Mac version of Half-Life 1? I need a source and/or more info
There is in fact a mac version of half-life 1 that is on steam, but it wasn't officially announced as of yet. It came out the day after the linux port of the game, and for some reason I find this kind of hilarious because if I remember correctly, there was originally a port for the macintosh of the game, but for some reason cancelled it, even though it was technically finished.
PS: Remember when this was a thread talking about that leaked Half-Life alpha, since when did we suddenly start sidetracking off talking about graphics in games and such?
