With this update, HL: Source is closer to feeling like the original game than the real HL1 does. :P
Why would they take away my nostalgia pills? WHY!
I made a simple mod that uses the original Low-Def models and sounds: Download here This would've been a model pack if not that the new GCF overrides any custom models. The update just makes the hd models default, but sill lets you install other packs for the game, thats all.
That's a fucking dick move from Valve, because HD pack is crap. Glock got replaced by some shitty-looking Beretta, MP5 was replaced with M4 with dumb firing sound and MP5 stats (which is just ridiculous for those who is interested in guns), also overall it's lacking that "high definition", unlike how it was done for never officially released Dreamcast version. What would actually be a nice move is if Valve would return the original soundtracks for Opposing Force and Blue Shift. As you know, Gearbox made their own tracks for expansions, but Valve didn't bothered with adding them in Steam versions of Op4 and BS.
the original soundtracks for Opposing Force and Blue Shift. As you know, Gearbox made their own tracks for expansions
You are correct about Opposing Force, but Blue Shift used Half-Life's tracks in the Dreamcast version. The version of Blue Shift released on the PC (which was completely standalone and did not require the original Half-Life to play) did indeed include Opposing Force's tracks on the disc. However, the entirety of Opposing Force was also included as a free bonus (also as a standalone game). Hence, it's not necessarily correct to declare that Gearbox created a new soundtrack for Blue Shift since you could surmise the OpFor tracks were meant specifically for OpFor. If that's the case, Valve's laziness in not porting over OpFor's soundtrack to the Steam version of Blue Shift may actually be accurate to Gearbox's intentions. But, the order of the OpFor tracks on the Blue Shift disc were rearranged compared to the original OpFor expansion disc release. Does this mean OpFor's tracks were indeed intended for Blue Shift? It is truly a mystery that will haunt us until the end of our days. And thus concludes today's lesson in Half-Life minutia.
I don't even quite see how the models are "HD." They don't look any better than the default ones.
also the "HD" models have missing animations that a lot of custom maps use.
Gearbox fixed that but Valve refuses to update for whatever reason
HD pack just doesnt match the feel of goldsrc HL
It does a little, just not in a good way
I am most likely the only person on this planet who like the HD texturepack models more over the usual ones At least the more "fancy" ones, like gluon gun and hivehand Hivehand was actually looking like an alien, lot like a piece o carton But you all behave like valve was raping your mother I know its a matter of a childhood, and a memories, and valve shouldn't be doing it But at least they can leave your mothers alone

For the most part at least. The problem is that they shouldn't be forcing stuff into the game like this, people should be able to play HL1 in its original state.

Also, Valve is still using the LD models in the screenshots on the store page
Looks like someone didn't get the joke. Also, Valve is still using the LD models in the screenshots on the store page
Valve tend to use many beta/old screenshots in the store pages of their games.
I must be the only one who likes the hd models...
They aren't bad. It's just the forcing down the throats.
