CS 1.6 now uses the new models from CS:CZ by default, and I'm pretty sure that's a 1.6 map.
holy fuck i'm going to kill myself
cz is a totally fucking different game
Dammit, I just opened CS 1.6 to check that. Why Valve? WHY?! My loved old French GIGN is dead :(
If you own both Counter-Strike and Condition Zero on the same Steam account, CS will automatically override the 1.6 models with their CZ incarnations. It's been this way for some time as declared in this archived 2008 Steam Support article.
Curiously, it seems Valve has long since deleted said article. I guess they really don't want you reverting back to the 1.6 models. However, you can find a mirror of the article's contents here.
How does a thread about a 97 alpha turn into the jumptoconclusionsaboutthelinuxmactestreleases thread
Relax, they most likely won't make the hd pack mandatory when they're done. Panic like this is the kind of shit NDAs are made for.

I admire your optimism. I'm glad you're right, the orange box update and all it broke certainly wasn't mandatory
heh, I just set my op4 and bs to not update automatically. First time ever I use that steam feature.
and lostcoast too, while I'm at it. It's still using hl2 2006 content and mechanics. Bunnyhopping is so hilariously easy in that build.

Don't be surprised if that doesn't do anything. I already had Half-Life set to not update automatically, but Steam still downloaded the new stuff anyway.
I'm backing up Portal as well in case they decide to do something dumb with that too.
For the love of god, take this non-alpha stuff to its own thread!
The panther eye doesn't do anything. There's one time when the panther eye walks into you non-stop. I was pretty disappointed since the panther eye was a pretty cool concept that unfortunately got removed from the game ._.

won't work. the exact same thing happened for my friend when he set his HL1 to not update.

It seemed like a pretty generic enemy to me, [del]it just ran and attacked you.[/del]
Oh it knocked you down? that seems pretty annoying...

Eh, I guess. But the design of the overall model looked pretty cool. I just wished that they could made it work.
Hi guys,
almost there... (bone rotations are not working properly yet). I should be able to release studio.h (+viewer and complete source code) soon...

Heh, Prospero...
I wonder why they took off the truck model and sticked with the brush.

more performance-economic.
[editline]29th January 2013[/editline]
believe it or not, brush geometry is incredibly cheap system-wise to render compared to a model.

Entity PVS reasons possibly. How good would a truck look if its origin moved into view and then suddenly visually appeared?

With the use of two textures blended, I disagree (especially for 1998 when the majority had a single TMU on a video card)
There is another way to play the Alpha without deleting opengl32.dll, you just set your desktop to 16 bit mode and run engine.exe.

You could also use a 3dfx Voodoo Graphics card and run enginegl.exe, but given the average young age of a FP user they probably won't even know what a voodoo or a glide is so this is never advised.
In speaking of old video hardware, the decals don't show up at all on ATI Rage128 :v:

Actually i do know what a Voodoo is, i was just telling the people who didn't want the decals flickering
a solution.

I had a Voodoo once.
It was terrible.
And I'm not just being all meme-like either, that was legitimately the story.

Did it burn your hardrive and rape your graphics?
Voodoo cards (at least circa the 2 era) were the bomb. 3dfx knew how to change the world.*

You don't know terrible. You have never used a Matrox, S3 or ATI card from 95-97. In that time, 3dfx was the only non-terrible vendor of the clusterfuck of them doing it wrong with more hype than substance
Seriously

3dfx isn't this
You don't know terrible. You have never used a Matrox, S3 or ATI card from 95-97
I've used an early Matrox.
It was terrible.
(and I also specifically remember me trying to play games on a Matrox G400 a couple years later :v: I think I only ever got Descent 3 to run well..)
omg S3 cards were nightmare fuel
mine would sometimes just spit polygons randomly and youd end up with some bizarre things that once resembled game characters
It's scary that they're still making products.

This is the kinda shit that an S3 card would probably do:

At least the one I had anyway
that last one reminds me of when i had a shitty 8400GS and it started dying.
never again.
