I do have the source code for Kratisto's model decompiler, do you still need it?
did anyone else get a new message when trying to play Half-Life 1? it's trying to convert the content to a "more effecient format"
do it it's your only hope for custom content
did anyone else get a new message when trying to play Half-Life 1? it's trying to convert the content to a "more effecient format"
don't do it. it will temporarily break your mods, and i have heard rumor that it changes the DLL files, making mods not work.
don't do it. it will temporarily break your mods, and i have heard rumor that it changes the DLL files, making mods not work.
hasn't done that for me
Cant wait the decompiler for the alpha! Also didn't a guy like a month ago tell us about his friend having a different copy of half-life 1 alpha (Armless mp5 Edition?) who kowns.

Doesn't actually mess with anything ingame for me though, so I can live with it.
I do have the source code for Kratisto's model decompiler, do you still need it?
Well, the decompiler is almost done, but I would like to look at the Kratisto's code anaway, if you can upload it somewhere or send it to me. Thanks

These two screenshots were released when Half-Life was announced in May 1997:
The grunt and the scientist in the first image look so bad as if they were sprites from Doom.
That grunt looks pretty cool.
That grunt looks pretty cool.
He looks like a shitty retexture of the scientist with a gun Also it looks like the houndeyes have dicks
Also it looks like the houndeyes have dicks
It's their tongues.

If someone wanted to go digging through this thread and send that guy a P.M, it would be much appreciated.
Also it looks like the houndeyes have dicks
The headcrabs had actual anuses, so I wouldn't be surprised.
The grunt and the scientist in the first image look so bad as if they were sprites from Doom.
Far away objects tend to look 2D on very low resolutions.
Also. It appears the grunt seems to be using a gun that looks like a black mp5? and ran off the Quake Solider animations.
Somone should remake the alpha on the retail as a mod, Like the Missing Information mod for HL2.
Somone should remake the alpha on the retail as a mod, Like the Missing Information mod for HL2.
no [editline]17th February 2013[/editline] its not like theres even anything to recreate since the alpha we have is literally all that was created at that point. i doubt xen was even concieved in marc laidlaw's wildest dreams at that point
"Last year, we had a lot of great technology," explains Ken Birdwell, "and it would have been a really competent game, but it wouldn't have gone over the edge anywhere. In the middle of last year, we got some inklings of what we really could do with the game, and by late last year, we had seen what the game should be - we just had to do it." What players are now experiencing on their PCs, "is really Half-Life 2," according to Valve's Ken Birdwell. Not surprisingly, this "voyage of discovery" (as Harrington describes it) caused massive turmoil on the project. "The net result is that we threw out just about everything," admits Birdwell. "All the AI was gone, and we gutted the levels. In reality, Half-Life got delayed because of Half-Life." In Birdwell's estimation, what players are now experiencing on their PCs, "is really Half-Life 2. It's an incredible game."
- The Final Hours of Half-Life In this case I think it'd be better to make a mod loosely based on this version of the story (with Ivan as the main character?) instead of plastering pieces onto what we have now. It'd probably have to take place in an alternate timeline too, I mean where does the "portal device" fit in?

[editline]17th February 2013[/editline] I remember when people thought barney was a traitor, Now we now it was just a scripted scene to show what the game was capable of at the time. Also, i'v seen a lot of people who don't know that the M.P logo on his helmet means "Military Police".
I would go for a reimagined alpha style mod, though there really isn't much interest in it is the problem.
Maybe someone could put back Uplink into the retail Half-Life, but instead of linking it with the Lambda Core chapter (like how Uplink addon did it), have it be part of "Forget About Freeman!" instead. I don't know, just an idea really.
the alpha we have is literally all that was created at that point.
This is not true. We can tell by the names of the missing maps, the non-functional changelevel triggers, and the existing pre-release screenshots available at the time that Valve had developed quite a bit outside of what's available in the leaked alpha. The walkthrough admits that a great deal of level functionality was stripped for the sake of the press demonstration, and although none of their resources were included, we can see the maps had already been designed to accommodate several unseen enemy types that ended up in the final game. Also, this trailer which is on the alpha disc: Demonstrates parts of On A Rail, the actual Tentacle silo (not the one from silodemo), and what appears to be another area of Unforeseen Consequences not found in the alpha.
