anyone knows exactly how to get the crowbar?
I'm more interested in how far the software renderer has progressed. FYI engine.exe only functions if your desktop is in 16-bit color. Running in -dibonly is also useful since this is scitech friggin MGL being used here
You must remember the hardware limitation of computers and windows 95 and 97 back in the mid 90s.
Particles were hardly a CPU burden in the engine, Quake did them fast that even a C implementation would be fine. The most intensive rendering functions relate to refreshing the lightmap (surfaceblock) and drawing the wall spans. Half-Life already did away with the faster DrawSpans16 function Also, not interesting as the game, there's some early QUAKE DEV BITS in the gfx/menu/ folder, particularily player1.bmp for the player setup screen. In addition there's also an early "showturtle" in gfx/status/chip.bmp, early disc/disk loading icons, and early "showram", and some really freaky early Quad damage faces and "gibbed" faces. However unfortunately, they have had their palette shifted and recalculated. gfx/hud looks like the HEV was........ augmented
anyone knows exactly how to get the crowbar?
i just spammed the switch weapon key to get it
Switch the flashlight off when you are in bright areas, as it will currently slow down your framerate.
Holy shit, second vid! That's a map we see in Hidden:source !!
Trying not to sound dumb, but anyone got a idea what the "use" key is? It's kinda getting annoying having to noclip though doors because you cant interact with the buttons. I took a look in the control configuration but there seems to be no binds for it.

wow 800 people view this map
got more questions: how to change keys on worldcraft, how to zoom out FOV?
http://www.valvesoftware.com/hocopus/ interesting little page
Select Hocopus E3 Trip Highlights: (In no specific order, details withheld) Gabe ran over a possum with the rental car. Splut. Getting awakened at 8am by the hotel fire alarm. If you did that, you suck. The hotel laundry service lost Gabe's underwear. Gabe's underwear resurfaced at the front desk in a dainty little box. (So cute!) The backed up toilet in the hotel lobby. The backed up toilet in the Wendy's next to the Inforum. The guy that snapped and cussed out the entire Georgia Dome Exhibit. The Ion Storm/Ritual maximum occupancy party. (Thanks, guys!) Sleep! (all three hours)

I don't believe we have ever seen these hud faces before...
I don't believe we have ever seen these hud faces before...
They are probably leftovers from Quake. Noting the sounds of the SMG from the videos in the OP and the SMG's design, I'd say that the SMG was supposed to be silenced, maybe used by the Ninjas or something.
I don't believe we have ever seen these hud faces before...
Probably unused content of Quake, Doom has something similar, the Doomguy face exploding.
They are probably leftovers from Quake.
No shit? They weren't even compiled for Quake, either. These are early never-before-seen bits since qlumpy would take these BMPs and chop them up into lmp files sectioned off as specified in QC files. These unused graphics weren't in those qc scripts. The gfx/ subfolders are the only extent in where there's early quake material.
And here I am playing Counter Strike: Source, we have come a long way.
They are probably leftovers from Quake.
Even Quake didn't have the face being gibbed like that in the hud. Reminds me of how the Playstation/Saturn port of Doom added 'gibbed' animations for if the player got blown up.
Quick question, If games back in the Quake days were focusing on optimization, why is there a ton of un-used content in the game's files? Surely it would be nicer on computers to get rid of excess textures and models.
