The old version of Diabolical Adrenaline Guitar is on the alpha disc. It's already been uploaded to YouTube: There are other music tracks on the alpha disc as well, but the rest seem to be identical to the retail release.
Where exactly on the disc, name, folder?
It's back. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-WORKING-CD-Half-Life-Alpha-Version-9-8-97-NO-RESERVE-/110998722321?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item19d80a1711 Throw your money Facepunch.
Just imagine how much it could sell it for if he hadn't uploaded the content.
I've looked everywhere and can't find them. Mind listing the location?
Don't tell me you've never seen a redbook CD before. It's one of the audio tracks on the disc, not a file in the file system. You'd have to rip with Cdex or another program that specializes in dumping cd audio, while mounting the cd virtually with software that supports cuesheets (or the long stupid way: burning the bin/cue to a blank CD media then ripping the cd :V).
Are you guys sure that the CD has more files then he uploaded? If so, I really hope one of us gets ahold of it and uploads the rest.
Got the external textures working, maybe I'll re-record tomorrow [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1820768/cscript/pics/dp000062.jpg[/img_thumb]
can you show us how it looks in vanilla quake?
Ugh I keep on crashing every 2 or 3 loading screens, and the save system wont work, doesent allow oyu to load a save. An way to fix this?
can you show us how it looks in vanilla quake?
Maybe tomorrow, I'm very tired and was just playing around with the maps, figured why not record it and post it here. I better get some sleep Also called it, knew leilei would rate me dumb for posting it :v:
How it normally looks in Quake
One of the most noticeable limitations of first-person shooters has been their 8 bits per pixel (bpp) color quality. The result is monotonous, unrealistic lighting and color that adds little to the gaming experience. And, even though an accelerator can improve the appearance of 8-bit games, they cannot expand an 8-bit game’s color palette beyond the original 256 colors. Half-Life is engineered in 16-bit color, which expands the available palette to 65,535 colors. And, with support for graphics acceleration, Half-Life lets those with advanced hardware see over 16 million colors. The result is greatly enhanced realism and visual richness. Specifically, 16-bit color makes the following innovations possible:
yeah okay
Is it just me or do the AI not attack each other and otherwise seem retarded? Am I doing something wrong?
Is it just me or do the AI not attack each other and otherwise seem retarded? Am I doing something wrong?
Well, considering this is one hell of a early alpha, then I dont think the A.I. was ever implemented?
Well, considering this is one hell of a early alpha, then I dont think the A.I. was ever implemented?
That's what I figured originally, but I thought they'd put something like that in if this was meant for gaming journalists.
Well, considering this is one hell of a early alpha, then I dont think the A.I. was ever implemented?
The AI is obviously implemented, but it's not as good as HL1. The grunts will shoot/grenade you and move around, but that's it.
So, anyone figured out how to decompile the models yet? Tried the milkshape one and those from jed's website.
looking it up and shit. tried hex editing but no dice. will give results when i get them.
r_lightmap 1 is kinda cool. It's like mat_fullbright 2 for gldsrc
I decided to make a crappy zoo-styled map for the alpha, if anybody wants to play it then just pop it into your maps folder and run it like any other custom map. http://filesmelt.com/dl/monsters2.rar
i wish i had a quake 1 decompiler, it would probably make decompiling these models easier. [editline]9th January 2013[/editline] or at least give me a footing to start with
Yeah and it onLY TOOK ME ALMOST EIGHT YEARS OF FUCKING WAITING AND LOOKING (well, mostly waiting) Man am I happy I finally get to try out an ancient copy of this shit. It's really cool to see how much has changed. I kinda like how headcrabs can kill you in one hit. It makes them so much more panic-inducing when they drop down on you from the ceiling.
Of the mods I played, the best simply raised the difficulty to a 'realistic' level and increased enemy spawns, and let you lose as a lone armored scientist trying to survive what can be probably called the worst possible outcome for a normal day at work.

[editline]9th January 2013[/editline] or at least give me a footing to start with
Quake 1 models didn't have skeletal animations, so it wouldn't be very useful. Looking at the models briefly in a hex editor, they're much closer to GoldSrc models than Quake (IDST header etc.) so it'd probably be easier to use a HL1 Model Viewer/Decompiler as a base.

Just gave mulitplayer a go with one other person. Whenever I'd kill him I'd run over into the standing pile of dead bodies and hold still until he came back in the room, when I would then jump forward and launch grenades at him while he tried to guess which one was me. This shit is pretty funny, too bad the crowbar is so useless. Gotta try this with more people now.

once again 4chan is a beacon of idiocy as /v/ members claim this is a forged mod. that's totally ignoring the fact that it's an intermediary between quake and won HL1 with none of the major, discerning features of either.
Since the op link doesn't work, http://www.moddb.com/games/half-life/downloads/half-life-sept-4-1997-alpha
I have extracted all of the CD's music in .WAV format, if anyone wants it. Yes this means Alpha music in its highest quality.
Do NOT wear headphones and have your volume on high when you watch grunts1.avi and grunts2.avi. My ears are fucking bleeding.
I have extracted all of the CD's music in .WAV format, if anyone wants it. Yes this means Alpha music in its highest quality.
That would be wonderful.
That would be wonderful.
Sure, a lot of it is really similar to the actual game. But in 44HZ, so its actually really high quality. (Steam is horribly compressed poopie). But that awesome alpha track you guys went on about? It's here, in its full glory.
I honestly never thought we would get to play this, piece of gaming history right here! a rare chance to travel back to Half-Lifes alpha days.
Fucking weird that after so many years now all these alpha discs are just suddenly popping up at once.
Weird or an orchestrated foreshadowing of that which we must not name?
