How easy is this game on novices? Fallout 2 and Arcanum are two of my favorite games of all time, but when I started up BG2 enhanched edition I felt lost and confused right at the character creator.
And I know I should probably give BG2 a new chance..
It's pretty easy to get in and everything has tooltips. Just remember that it's not level-scaled or anything, so if you find a dungeon too difficult just leave it for later instead of tearing your hair out.

Or tear your hair out and reap the phat loot rewards!
I'm in the weird state where I want to know more about this game, but trying to avoid spoilers.
I cant play till next month.
I kind of feel like I'm not playing this right. Standard fights usually go okay, but once we're outnumbered I lose people pretty fast. Got a Paladin, Fighter, Rogue and Priest right now at [sp]Raderic's Keep[/sp].

You probably need to be using a lot more CC stuff, knockdowns, stuns, confusion, all kinds of stuff REALLY helps.

Make sure you're making good use of your spells that regenerate for every encounter.
For anyone who likes to "cheat" in these sort of games:

I think I may have just hit that part too soon. I forgot that you can go pretty much wherever, so I hit some other areas and they're a lot easier.
Man [sp]Maerwald[/sp] is kicking my ass. Micromanagement is tough.
Baldur's gate was my childhood and this is such a great throwback. The writing is spot on and I'd really recommend it
The writing in this game is really great. A lot of the sidequests seem clear-cut, but then you hear another persons side of the story and you're asked who to side with, and it's actually a difficult choice. I appreciate that was vague but trying to keep it spoiler-free. It's really impressive.
The only issue I've had with the writing is some inconsistencies if you're a death godlike. There will be times where a character mentions my eyes or something and it's just weird because...

How can you tell?
no one even seems to give a shit I'm a death godlike, and those are supposed to be mistrusted as shit
also it'd be nice if there was a portrait matching every head option at least, female death godlikes only get that one

Maybe they will get more shit when you get to other areas. The area around Gilded Vale seem to primarily follow Berath so they might be more comfortable around death godlike.
So i'm wondering how do wizards work? I'm a few hours into the game and i got that elf wizard, Ahon i think? Anyway, i must be missing something but for his casting, it seems like i can only cast lvl 1 wizard spells 4 times and lvl 2 wizard spells 2 times before i need to make a camp so they are restored. How do i restore them without making camp? Also i've given him a new 2handed staff, replacing his scepter but he seems to be going melee instead of casting like he did before. What gives?
if you like RPGs, it most certainly is!
I don't usually like RPGs of this kind but it's fantastic.

The scepters attack is ranged. And the only way to get those spells back is to rest via inn or camp. That's why you should use his spells that refresh for every encounter. The level 1 and 2 spells are for more dangerous encounters.
A little wary of this seeing as it seems to be trying really hard to draw on successful games in the past. I'll wait until it's out and initial hype has died down.
Didn't take my own advice
I suck ass at this game
[editline]29th March 2015[/editline]
just like in the past at BG and Icewind.
I played for about an hour or two last night to get the just of how to play. I love the style and everything. Plays really well too. But that intro though...all that effort for nothing -.-
[sp]I'm referring to when you save two peoples lives only to have them die anyway.[/sp]

what class you playing
The difficulty ramps up really quickly in this, though I appreciate the endurance versus health bit.

I'm literally getting demolished by all those spirits in that Caed Nua place, am I supposed to train with sidequests and shit before going there? I went almost immediately and damn its so hard, what did you guys do?

You could do a level or two of it but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to do the rest later
finish the gilded vale quests first. Especially the one where you infiltrate the castle
What time did you clock in at to complete it?
It's reading stuff like that that puts me off investing more time into games that are supposed to last a while
