He maxes out at a certain point and only sells certain gear, the last upgrade to his inventory requires you to give him a golden idol for one of his quests.
To elaborate on this, the quest is called Escort Duty and you get it from Fournival around about the time you're doing wyrm hunt quests (I had to raise affinity with him and wait a day or two before it became available I think)
You have to do the quest perfectly to get the gold idol. I recommend following a guide, otherwise Caxton (or Madeleine, if you give her the idol) won't sell the best gear for the rest of the game. You can give silver and bronze idols to either, but this is the only opportunity to get a gold one

I completely forgot about her giving you the gold idol and totally botched the quest by taking forever to [sp]find her on the hide and seek as well as knocking her over on the race[/sp] as I sprint immediately. :v:
Luckily my checkpoint went all the way back to right before I did that quest.
Is Madeleine the better choice to upgrade if I play as a Strider?

I'm not sure actually, I think she is good for female clothes, curatives and magic items. You could cross reference her shop with Caxton's I suppose

Caxton is better for physical characters (Fighter, Warrior, Strider, Ranger, Assassin) and Madeleine is better for magic characters (Mage, Sorcerer, Mystic Knight, Magic Archer).

resonant ENB, daytime looks a bit washed out but other than that it looks good
looks pretty decent for the games age
any quicktips for a beginner?, i understood most of the pawn stuff, but i was told that some quests simply dissapear as time goes so thats confussing me, also at which point should i start the dark arisen DLC?
Are strider pawns worth it? Do they climb enemies effectively?
I really like the idea of making one but my experience with them so far's been pretty poor, though they might just have had shitty inclinations
At what level are you supposed to go farther west. I ventured that way around level 20 to do the escort quest for Ser Berne and didnt really have any trouble except for a dragon that was hanging out near the Shadow Fort that pushed my shit in multiple times and eventually I had to avoid it completely and continue on my way.

Other than the dragon, you should be fine over there.

Sidequests only fail themselves when advancing past a certain point in the story, its pretty generous with the exception of Quina's sidequest, which when gotten, you should do BEFORE going with the entourage to gran soren, failing that one causes a couple other side quests and the east region of witchwood to be locked out. (Just run past the stupidly high level enemies on the path to it)
Also I'd start dark arisen after you finish the 'main' story or NG+, you can go to and from it freely though so don't worry if you wanna check it out.

Notice board quests disappear if you advance the story too far. There seem to be some that disappear over time (source: me) but from my experience it takes several in game days (maybe even weeks) for them to expire.
Here are some tips:
1. When you first leave Cassardis (the starting village) continue along the road and save the man being attacked by goblins. If he dies or you return to Cassardis before saving him he will be lost from your game until NG+. He is a travelling merchant you can find in a number of camps through the world.
2. Throw enemies off cliff for easy kills. You'll lose out on the loot (if you can't get down to their corpse) but you'll also train your pawn to throw people off cliffs too.
3. Don't grab loot until the battle is over. If you constantly pick up loot your pawn will learn this and become much less effective in battle.
4. You can mine rocks for ore with a pickaxe. You can also smash the ore off the rocks with explosives or a really big smack.
5. Bandits to the west and north of the map are very powerful, don't be fooled because they look like the guys you fight early on.
6. Killing enemies that give you a lot of XP is good for levelling your character. Killing enemies that give you little XP is good for levelling your vocation. More XP = Less DP, Less XP = More DP.
6a. When you switch vocations it'll be significantly worse than your levelled vocations, spend some time getting 2 or 3 vocation levels to unlock new abilities.
6b. Even if you plan on sticking to one vocation (Fighter for example) you should level the other vocations for the augments they provide.
7. "Even in groups a weakling is a weakling still!" (You can turn off pawn chatter in the options if they bother you, or go to the chair at the Inn to tell them to talk less)
Is it strange that I made my pawn my exact copy in terms of looks and vocation (and when available, equipment)?
I figured that if my pawn learns from me, I don't want my healer to climb onto a cyclopse's face to blast it in the eye.

Hired striders have always been good climbers for me. However, your personal pawn as a strider will have to either watch you or another pawn climb before he starts to climb as well. I had a funny moment when I had a squad of striders (for shits and giggles) and ran into a golem. 4 people climing on his ass stabbing the shit out of crystals made for a good laugh. Poor guy.
Golems fucking suck as a magic character. The only magic that does jack shit is the meteor spell and glaciel or any spell that has a physical component to it.
Hm, so if I want to change and force inclinations for my pawn, should I drink potions for the tertiary first, then secondary and last primary?
None shall stand before the might of TINY TREJO and BRUTE WILLIS

Also met this beauty in the Rift.

Yeah, you want to do the tertiary inclination first.

I don't think that's how it works haha
Your pawn will always make decisions according to their vocation. Utilitarian mages will always buff first, Utilitarian melee will be more tactical etc.
The only way you'd turn your pawn into a Scather would be to spam the Go command in battle
Yeah, you want to do the tertiary inclination first.
I'd use like 1 x tertiary potion, 2 x secondary and then 5 x primary to really solidify the inclination
Some post somewhere online said 15 so I bought 15 of each type I wanted. :v:

No, that's exactly how it works.
They will eventually do everything you do.
There's actually a lore reason to this too.
I got the Duke's wife/girl/loli love slave whatever, i talked to her once and she was like "he has a hat i'mma fuck him."
Honestly i didn't even recognize who she was by the end, i had to google it.
This happened to me too.
ENORMOUS SPOILERS AHOY!
[sp]When Grigori talks about sacrificing or saving her, I was like "Eh, I don't really know she is? But I guess saving her is the best ending riiiiiiiight?"[/sp] :v:

[sp]I was trying to be coy about it, but the primary reason I started making my pawn look just like my character is because I was pissed at the first pawn I made stealing my face. So I erased that bitch from existance. Though it was cool how my character was called Sorrow and had a main pawn called Hope, which are also names of chambers in the Everfall.[/sp]
has the pawn bug been fixed
How long is this game?
I just met the Duke

If you do all the side quests that come your way, you've got a long way to go. You can blitz through the main questline pretty quickly I think. I beat the game after doing with a little bit of random exploration in around 20 hours. But I was going in blind and had no idea advancing the storyline locks off quests, so I think I missed out on a ton of content.
You can beat the game in about eight hours if you know what you're doing and where you're going, but if you do all the side quests and shit then it's closer to like 40 or 50, not including the DLC
the DLC adds about 30 hours, at least
I spent so much time getting these fucking wakestones and ended up hitting the blacksmith by a mistake. Please tell me there is a way to get "failed" quests again

Other than reloading a checkpoint/save,
restarting the game/going ng+.

Haven't finished the game yet, does starting NG+ allow you to recreate your character/pawn from scratch? I have some things I want to try on my second playthrough, but I'd like to invert absolutely everything about my character when I do so.
