You cant play a mage solo, not sure what you're doing? Every party needs a mage that can buff because elemental affinities are almost required and giving them to your party is amazing. Bandits are known for being the most bullshit enemy in the game, they soak up so much damage and do so much. On ps3 they were the enemy that I died to the most. Test your damage output on an actual beast.
You don't even know you can buff yourself and you're arguing about this..? I mean, I'm trying my best not to be an asshole but you're not making it easy.
Still, my original point is, if you don't like the class why not move on to something else? I've heard a lot of good shit about how just "fuck shit up" magic is in the game.. So eh.
You can play a mage solo but it requires a lot of obnoxious work and it's all based around that charge attack and buffing your staff. There's a video on youtube of a guy soloing all of BBI with a mage
So I tried the 'trial' version.
While playing, the game keeps on crashing to blue screen of death randomly.
Not sure if I should get the 'full' version now.
Maybe if you want to trial a game you should buy it in steam and get a refund if it doesnt run, because if you're basing performance off a pirated copy that people have been slipping things into on certain websites then no doubt you're going to have issues!
where's the screenshot location when you use the "share" function in the pause menu? or is it just like, a defunct thing they carried over?
I think it connects to social media but since the game isn't out yet that doesn't do anything. It may also just be Steam screenshots.
I'll probably go Magick Archer because it's one of the two Vocations i haven't messed with yet. Pity i won't be able to play it for a few days, thanks third shift.
It should be out today, right? I mean it's the 15th somewhere in the world after 12pm.
It says it unlocks in 1 day 8 hours for me so

You should probably read my post before you try to imply I'm just stupid. Of course I know you can buff yourself, I even mentioned it in my post, it just doesn't seem very useful because, as far as I know at least, as a wizard it only enhances your standard attacks, not your actual spells.
I heard the same, but at least against bandits that's just blatantly untrue.

I'm not trying to solo, I thought I made that pretty obvious. I just went out alone to test how my good my damage output was, turned out it was ass.
I'm not playing a Mage, I'm playing a Sorcerer. It seems like having a Mage in your party is pretty much essential, if only for healing spells which they're the only class that gets for some reason. Honestly kind of annoying, I'm not a fan of having multiple magic users in the party, but I guess if I need to have a Mage in the party anyway I can delegate all the buffs to them.
But... really? Bandits? Bandits are one of the worst enemies? That's just really weird, I did not expect that, thought they'd be a pretty good baseline. I guess I should try against some monsters sometime.
Still, either way, how the hell am I supposed to deal with those bandits who just don't want to get damaged by spells? Is the only option just to let the rest of my party do all the work?
Yes, because the theme of the game is playing to your strengths and knowing who you're facing. You know you're up against bandits slot out one of your magic users and get another warrior. You know you're against something weak to Ice get your Ice buffs and skills up. It's a game about adapting to enemies and there are going to be enemies strong about certain things. Bandits are broken af, super tanky and do so much damage.
[editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
If you just want to do damage faster play Warrior. Sorcerers require better positioning and more time but pull off the most burst damage in the game if you know what you're doing.

I don't really see how you can adapt, though? You can only change your vocation back in Gran Soren, so if magic users are just 100% useless against bandits, which seem to be pretty common, how the hell are you supposed to play a Sorcerer? Not like you can just go Strider while travelling to wherever you're going and then switch to Sorcerer or anything.

I have no problem with positioning whatsoever, I'm completely capable of getting in a position where I can throw off some spells without getting interrupted, my problem is that they don't do fuck all. Against bandits, anyway.

Nah doesn't quite work like that, as much as I understand your will to play DD:DA

I dont know what you want me to say, Bandits are troublesome and will still 2shot you endgame if you play on hard mode, but you should oneshot them if you're using high end spells. I dont even know how far you are in the game so I dont know what you're using on people but is it really that big an issue to be weak against something?
tbh most of your magic should be demolishing bandits anyway, the only time it wouldn't is if you're getting hit while casting so you can't hit them with things
are you using ingle? because fire is good. grab the ring that gives you Grand Ingle, it rules
[editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
it should be in your box at an inn

I'd say there's a difference between being weak against something and doing basically no damage. And I would certainly also say that yes, that's an issue, because then against that enemy type you'll just be standing around doing fuck all. Not exactly thrilling.
I'm very early game, been fighting the bandits between The Encampment and Gran Soren. My Sorcerer is at vocation level 4, using the High version of each basic elemental spell.
Ironically I'm not really having that big of an issue with them doing crazy damage to me, except for one time where a bandit Strider one shot me with Helm Splitter.

Like I said, I'm not having a problem getting my spells off, they're just doing fuck all.
And I've tried using all three elemental spells, none of them did a whole lot. Would have expected lightning to do high damage against someone wearing metal armor but it did basically nothing, same for both fire and cold.
I know about the Grand Ingle ring but I feel it's a little bit cheaty, no? I mean you're not supposed to get that stuff until way later, right? I did try it out briefly though, and even with that I didn't do much damage.

Lets play the game a little more before we jump to conclusions then.

Bandits are an early game enemy, though. It's not like I'm going into areas way beyond my level.
Are we still on this subject? Bitching about it won't help, experimenting with the game will.
Go do that.

Sometimes I wish there was a "what the fuck are you even talking about" rating.
If i remember right, if you go the direction that video shows there you're going into higher level territory. The bandits are harder than if you go up to grand soren first. On ps3 playthroughs, i'd always level up on the path to/around grand soren or that mine before going up that hill with the tougher bandits.
Yeah, there's little concept of 'high-level' areas. If you can't damage them, turn away and come back later, find a way around, or run past to safety. There'll be times later where that becomes almost a requirement.
i bought the game, i remember being interested in it around the first time i played dark souls (2012). Is it viable to just have a band of warriors/fighters, or 3 warriors/fighters and a strider/ranger/assasin?

I have been to Gran Soren, I'm going that route now because as far as I can tell that's the direction Quina or whatever her name was is.

I can beat them just fine as a Strider or Ranger, they just have some absolutely ridiculous magic resistance or something.

i pretty much sprinted through an entire area because of[sp]the reaper boss in dark arisen[/sp] so much nope
by then the player should be accustomed to the act of retreat, tho for some it may come as a surprise because by the end of the main story you're pretty powerful.
[QUOTE=myng;49529020]Is it viable to just have a band of warriors/fighters, or 3 warriors/fighters and a strider/ranger/assasin?[/QUOTE]
I'd say it's probably possible but I don't think it's something I would suggest doing.
Many enemies require the use of specific elemental damage to deal a decent amount of damage.
