Yeah the reason I was asking is that it didn't work for me.
That's really the only way I know of. Try deleting the sound.cache file from your sound folder, verifying game cache, then doing the snd_rebuildaudiocache command again.
Verified the game cache and it worked, strange because before I verified, the console did not recognize it as a command.
Also with the method you posted, you can delete all the other sounds from you added from pak01 and just keep the custom sounds and the new sound.cache. It sill works without having 75+ MB of sounds you don't need.
I remember when Dota2 used multiple sound.caches but it seems they did away with that.

Weird, I did both ways and only jukebox way worked for me.
Any updates on the Skeleton King mod?
Anybody know if it's possible to edit the scripts so that the game has a chance to play another sound at random? I've got 3 versions of a mod that I think it'd be pretty cool if I could have different ones play randomly, but by default the game only uses one sound file.
How's this for a weaver skin?

Ugly as fuck imo.

Dunno if it still works, but if you modify the game_sounds files (They're in the Scripts folder) you can do all sorts of crazy stuff. For randomized sounds just replace the "wave" "whatever/sound.wav" for whatever sound with this:
"rndwave"
{
"wave" "whatever/sound01.wav"
"wave" "whatever/sound02.wav"
"wave" "whatever/sound03.wav"
}
You may have to set the file to read-only (Not sure if Dota auto-deletes outdated sound scripts), and if the game updates with new sounds you'll probably have to update the file manually.

This actually worked, neat.
Using this method, I've just made a mod where I replaced Terrorblade's morph sounds with "crawling in my skin," "numb," and "wake me up inside" because I thought it'd be hilarious. Would anyone like to see a video of it?

Oh please do it.
That shit could make playing with a Terrorblade in my team somewhat enjoyable
Okay, here's the sound mod for soul keeper:

You wonderful motherfucker, I love you forever.
Hey, can I ask you a request? I gave up with trying to port WC3 music into the game because dota 2 use alot of tracks at the same time so I got lazy.
Can you take a look now you found a way to play different sounds?
1) I don't have WC3 or Dota 1
2) Replacing the default songs is as simple as renaming the WC3 song file into that of the Dota 2 song file name. Don't think the songs have for Dota 2 are in .wav format, I could be mistaken though.
[editline]r[/editline]
Thing is, they overlap alot; this is why I gave up.
Give me a minute and I can send you some of the songs.
Well, I dunno how exactly to not make them overlap, if that's your issue.

Most of Dota's music has "layered" tracks, so they can add drums or whatever to the music dynamically. Just replace the "layered" tracks (Listen to them and figure out which ones are the base song, and which are simply additives) with silence and you should be able to pretty easily replace the music.

I mixed up some UT (1999) tracks and got it working with layered tracks, if you got the time, do it. It makes the game sound amazing.
Could you give the name of the layered tracks? And which files replace the music in game?
I´d really like this song as a mod, if you guys are going to work on that stuff.

Would give me a reason to turn on music again.

Hey jukebox, can you share the DOSH last hit sound?
Holy shit random cycling soundmods is the future.
Somebody make a Witch Doctor ulti dubstep super mega compilation.
Could you give the name of the layered tracks? And which files replace the music in game?
Here's the ones I replaced :
In music folder
gamestartup1-3 - Play's at game startup and moves to next track when finished
hero_select_underscore_loop.wav - Play's while selecting heroes, importantly, it's a WAV file and must stay that way!!
dota2_tutorial_music_laning_01_layer_01 - This or Layer 02 plays at pre-horn
dota2_tutorial_music_laning_01_layer_03 - Play's while attacking an enemy
dota2_music_explore_001 - Play's while in jungle
dota2_music_battle_001 - Play's when an enemy dies nearby or is low health while you are attacking him
dota2_music_battle_002 - Play's when multiple players begin taking a threshold of damage
dota2_music_battle_004 - Play's when fighting roshan
In Stingers folder
radiant_win/lose - Play's when radiant win or lose, will play until players disconnect.
dire_win/lose - Play's when dire win or lose, will play until players disconnect.
dota2_music_death - A complete track that plays whenever you die, stops when you respawn.
death - 10 second track that plays shortly when you die.
reincarnate - 10 second track that plays shortly when you reincarnate (Aegis, not wraith king, interestingly)
Battle-music also have "end" files which require the song's end to fade out manually, otherwise, all laning tracks cross-fade automatically in-game.
You must also make sure to rebuild the audio-cache or some files might not work or play fully. All layered tracks play over-top of the already playing track from the start of the audio. That's all I really know about it.
Hello guys i hope you're doing good.
well im going to the point, since 1 year ago valve decided to change the beastmaster voice to the really ugly robotic voice and i hate it, does anyone know if there's a mod so i can have the old voice or does anyone can teach me or provide me a guide so i can do it? i tried before but i couldnt do it since i dont know nothing about moddin.
well i know how to change or create sounds files so dota can recognize an audio file but only when i use a skill and i want to change all the sounds files i think the new and old beastmaster voices has different voscript, can someone help me? or i just have a lost deal here? have a good day
i've been looking for this mod since forever but i think im the only one who realliy miss the old beastmaster voice :(

this is the old voice.
PD: sorry for my bad english lol.
You'd probably have to somehow get a version of the game from whatever time his voice was like that, which I haven't seen around anywhere. The earliest version I've been able to find was after frostivus 2012.
IMO, his new voice is better because it doesn't sound like every single voice that Mowry does for this game (with the exception of Clockwerk). Slardar, Warlock, Anti-mage, all sound just like that old voice. Listening to that video, his old voice sounded almost just like Warlocks, even the rolling of the letter r. With his new voice, I was at least not able to immediately tell it was Mowry's voice acting until I looked it up on the wiki.

his voice was change since march of 2013 and for what reason should i get and old version?, do you mean to get the old sound files? because i have it.
yes im agree with you, his voice is alike the necro or slardar but i think with the beastmaster the voice was perfect he listened like a real beast man now he sounds like a roboco/terminator haha!.
Better yet, what I have to do to get the badass korean voice? download the package from steam and get the files for the hero right?

If you have the old voice files, then just put it into the dota files in sound/vo/beastmaster and then rebuild the audio cache. I've also got necrolyte's old voice if you're interested.
