How do you deal with shields? Is it better to not shoot, meaning you don't have to reload (where they can put it down and aim), or try and get them in the foot or something? [editline]6th May 2017[/editline] Also, I've noticed people like shooting the bottom of walls out and shooting or crawling out from there. What's the dynamics of that?
Shields if you can try shoot them in the exposed arms or feet if they are alone, if they have a buddy, just wait for the buddy to come out and shoot them first (don't forget that the shield guy is there too! a good shield guy may be able to instantly headshot you while you aren't looking their way). If you aren't confident, retreat, or get someone to help flank them. Blitz and Montagne, don't get too close, flash from blitz, and revolver from monty (nerfed a bit now but still) can be powerful. If you are using a shotgun feel free to just shoot them wherever. Shooting out bottom of walls to crawl out from is one way to just make a new path between rooms. Creating new routes around the map is extremely useful for making unexpected flanks, escaping some situations you might normally not be able to, and defending some otherwise shit objective rooms. You can also make holes in unexpected places to shoot enemies from, like below eye level, it's possible someone might not see you hole before it is too late. Making holes in walls also allows you to hear better from outside, so there's that.
Don't reinforce between bombsites, don't completely seal off capture zones, and don't play Castle until you have a decent grasp on how a map works
On the topic of matchmaking, does casual not count skill level at all? Just got paired against someone who was 371 and aced us lol
Casual only exist as a safe heaven for ranked players to pubstomp noobs and vent off steam and salt gained in ranked.
It used to grab the first ten players it could find so stomps were common, but they recently made it take into account your comp MMR
Any tips (or links to guides / operator guides) for a new pvp player? Previously just done heaps of terrorist hunt with a friend.
a friend of mine whos p good wrote a decent guide
Don't reinforce between bombsites, don't completely seal off capture zones, and don't play Castle until you have a decent grasp on how a map works
I almost always depending on the site reinforce at least one between site, as a means of cover
the problem with castle is that his barricades work both ways. they provide cover for the enemy team too. and there have been times where i won matches because i was able to freely approach the objective because all of my flanks were covered by their castle. i also hate it when people play him on anything but hostage because for some reason people don't know how to counter fuze taking advantage of the barricades
how do you counter fuze using castle barricades? I hate it cause we always get fucked by him, we can't shoot the gadget off the door. only way to safely stop it is with a jammer, but they can be emp'd.

On the plus side they won't expect it, so you can try to rush out at the same time.

only time I'll castle objective doors is if I've got a mute willing to back them up to prevent us getting buttfucked by fuze, or if it's hostage. Even then, I focus on windows, then go and barricade doors / windows that I know will inconvenience attackers more than it will defenders. [editline]6th May 2017[/editline] I used to be super polite and never tear down a castle's barricades and instead take long ass routes around. but now, if the dumbass doesn't listen to me on mic, I tear it down so fast. ain't nobody got time for that, and I ain't getting caught in the open cause your dumbass was too lazy to tear it down to let me out. fuckers barricading it within 5 secs of round start. "hey castle, can you let me out please?" *radio silence* "o-okay"
windows are usually the safer bet. if you're an inexperienced castle it's usually just safe to barricade windows in the objective or around it, that way there's not a whole lot of double-edged sword going on.

castle is pretty dope at making kill zones. leave a window unbarricaded beside the objective room, but barricade the only door out. punch a couple kill holes in the wall so they can't guess which one you're peeking out of. they're then stuck between waiting for someone to break the door, or exiting, but I can usually kill em before they escape, cause they almost always clear the room thinking there's someone in it. feels good, man.
"hey castle, can you let me out please?" *radio silence* "o-okay"
Just tear it down yourself? IIRC Castle will even get his barrier back so he can block another teammate in
you don't that's why castle is so shit in a lot of situations
he's actually used A LOT in the pro league, a lot more than I expected. He gets about 40% usage average across the different pro league seasons.
pretty sure you mainly use his barricades on doors instead of windows, to deny the enemy points of entry/time/resources. they're forced to use explosives or find another route.
he's actually used A LOT in the pro league, a lot more than I expected. He gets about 40% usage average across the different pro league seasons.
yeah well if the players good than he's good. but in most situations he's used by players that aren't very good.
I'm in the opposite situation. It takes me ages to find a casual match, and when I finally get in, it's nothing but diamonds and platinums that shit on me before I can even see them half the time. I'm in gold, but it feels like the gap between gold and platinum is huge and everyone I go up against is playing casual like it's ranked 2.0. It's just not fun.

On the topic of matchmaking, does casual not count skill level at all? Just got paired against someone who was 371 and aced us lol
I suggest you only play ranked. Trade the pub-stomping gang-rapists for people that are (usually) around your skill. On average, I find that the quality of the matches go up and the duration goes up as well (with the possibility of over-time, etc.) which sort of offsets the time it takes to queue in the first place.

Unless you're saying it specifically doesn't break them when fuze's charge is on it (which is questionable?)

I've never been screamed out for dying in a video game so much in my life. I played casual to have fun and enjoy the game, but now I can't even do that because of the changes :v:
Impact grenades break castle barricades pretty reliably. [vid]https://u.nya.is/kxgawz.webm[/vid]
Took some digging but explain this then [vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/jljwtq.webm[/vid]

It looks like the impact grenade hit the fuze puck in midair :v: thus making it detonate earlier [t]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QqO9Z3ubDeQ/WQ9GbcPPyTI/AAAAAAAATaw/1Nmo5m-Iv50JSkJ7YWbTb8h3cdOANh6kACHM/s0/chrome_2017-05-07_18-07-58.png[/t]
