The new advanced cannon system is now in the dev build. [editline]20th October 2015[/editline] Also new wood textures.
Oh man, proper armor piercing and timed charges are fucking awesome. Also no more battleship machine guns. Big guns now take a considerable amount of time to reload/refire, based on gauge size, shell composition and barrel heat.
Damn, I should probably try and make a full auto battleship cannon of a huge caliber and enjoy the havoc before it becomes impossible to do :v:
I wish LUA was less broken with the dev branch. Also, the timer fuse should be LUA settable for antimissile flak. Granted HE isn't that great at hitting missiles.

I've already spent over an hour making a boat that can pretty much only do backflips and shoot a cannon.
A six-barreled belt-fed advanced cannon firing 18mm x 20mm shells can fire at just over seven thousand rounds per minute. :speedfap: I placed seven of them on a boat. My FPS plummed into single digits from rendering all the ammo in the belt. It shot 7 dakka laserbeams of death. The engines could barely overcome the recoil. It was worth it. I mounted one on a turret on my pseudo-catamaran boat. Fired it sideways, and it flipped over the boat and sputtered out of ammo in two seconds. :joy:
Finaly getting a hang of this game managed to survive the first wave a drake collumn now builing my first big battleship. Took a few attwmpts and alot of testinh in creative mode to get good enough. Loving this game so far

So does this have any sort of multiplayer mode yet? I couldn't find anything online or on the Steam page.

Competitive / cooperative instant action with a few game modes, and cooperative campaign. No dedicated servers AFAIK, but listen servers are pretty stable. I played a few hours on my singleplayer save with my friend. I was in a jet fighter, he was in a submarine. Attacked a couple pirate fleets and took down a pirate fortress. Worked pretty well despite my mediocre internet. After the session, I saved my game, closed the server, then booted it back up in singleplayer and kept playing with no issues bar some of the fog of war on the campaign map being restored.

Firstly, thank you so much for the help. It didn't work, unfortunately, but I'm really thankful you tried to help. The only Visual C++ redists I saw on the link you gave me were for Visual Studio, but I downloaded and installed the 2013 redist anyways. The DirectX install told me it was already up to date. Still crashing after the two logo screens show. I just have a sound of waves in the background from the menu then it crashes after a few seconds. Been dying to play this all day because I was designing a really great warship. Will change my system drive to C: [editline]16th November 2015[/editline] Oh wow, I realised my issues of crashing in this game may be due to the OS HDD not being C: Gonna have to reinstall Windows and put it as the C: drive. So don't make the engine too efficient, as once it starts getting into huge negative exponents it just rounds it to zero... making the net engine power zero.
I've owned this game for months but never had time to really get into it. I've finally spent some time with it and managed to get 5 others to play with me. We're all learning the basics right now and it's going pretty well. It helps that we're all GMOD/Wire/ACF vets, but this is otherwise a really unique game and I'm glad I've got people to play with. Does anyone have advice or resources for the Advanced Cannons? I don't mean tutorials, I'm thinking more advanced understandings like best design practices and good shell types. Would definitely appreciate it.
New update has been out for a weekish. Ive been in the devtest branch for awhile so ive had time to mess around with the new mechanics. No more million power ships and fuel consumption is a real thing to worry about now. Local resources no more magic storage you have to build physical storage boxes and transport resources between your fortresses now. I stated my campaign fresh and started building a whole new ship. Really liking the new engine changes. It's an indirect nerf to lasers, and makes designs more visual interesting rather than a just a copy+pasted lump of cylinders and carbs. I just wish I could build a good cheap/effective attack plane. I keep experimenting with helicopter blades but nothing is particularly successful.

Stick with jets, using Huge Jets for the main thrust. I based my personal fighter plane on a Steel Striders' XF04, albeit heavily modified.
I can't imagine I have enough fuel for jets to be reliable just starting off.
Can anyone give me advice regarding the new gun system? Every time I make a gun, I dimension it all and it racks ammunition and fires, but each shot takes forever to reload. It's to the point where in battles, I'd be better off just using a basic custom cannon. I'll get into battle and the first 2 shots will miss the enemy, and then by the time my shots start landing and doing decent damage, I'm almost dead. How can I speed up the reload times of my guns? I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
You got two things you need to consider with cannon reloading, first is cooldown rate and second is the time it takes for the autoloader to load a new shell from it's attached magazine(s). So instead of 1-2 autoloaders with a bunch of magazines, give each autoloader only one magazine block and try to fit as many autoloaders on the gun as you can. Optimizing the gun by balancing cooldown vs reload rate is essential. In the shell designer you can see how long it'll take to reload a shell for a given caliber. I find almost without exception that it is pointless to have an autoloader with more than one magazine block, typically I use one autoloader, one magazine and one feeder. Beyond that, try to make the shell as long as possible so you get the most out of it, the designer has a display to show the required magazine size.

I made a biplane that has a three-level propeller with 3 meter long blades. It has a pair of jet engines in the back some extra thrust, since the cannons can cause it to stall. Flies at about 40m/s, 32ish just on prop. I should swap the guns for missiles, though; it seriously struggles to get enemies in its firing arc. If you want to use helicopter blades, make sure you go to the spin block and press Q, then increase the Motor Drive fraction. It'll require an engine to power, but it will dramatically increase the spin speed.
I'm going to guess with the localised resources, that conquering the DWG with an air force will be impractical without lugging around a supply ship as well.

A zeppelin powered by a propeller could work but it'd be slow and cargo capacity would be limited. [editline]27th December 2015[/editline] Also, the DWG aren't nearly as much of a pushover as before now that a significant portion of their ships wield Advanced Cannons and many have NPC spawners (crew that will shoot you if you board them) A bunch of their ships have received upgrades coinciding with the cannon retrofit, such as the [I]Moray[/I] thrustercraft getting half a dozen missile launchers and AA cannons that can actually hit targets somewhat reliably.
Can't seem to make any sort of decent high-rof compact fighter cannon with the advanced cannon system. I would just stick to the old custom cannons, but those are going to be axed after a while iirc.
