I just bought this. any tips for a complete noob?
Follow some Tutorials on how to build shit, I am.
So I might be becoming a coder for the game
Figured it's about time to resurrect this thread now a big update's come out. Dev's now working on updating it to Unity 5. http://steamcommunity.com/games/fromthedepths/announcements/detail/249166030725694158
Bit late, but Robbaz played this. also shit this game is wayy to expensive
Really enjoying this game. I love the fact that everything about the weapons is buildable, really good concept imo as it allows you to customize practically everything. My only issues with it is the horribly confusing interface and the really quite bad models/texturing. The coding is solid.
Is it just me or is the AI very hard to get right? I mean they seem to simply defy and ignore weapon firing angle restrictions (fire weapons that can't even aim at the target) and also the distance thing is wonky as hell. (Ships that are supposed to stay 1km away decide to rush in to about 200m and turn around or drive loops.) Apart from the weird/buggy ship AI at times this game is so much fun

There is no such thing as "too big" when it comes to cannons [t]http://i.imgur.com/DUux4ey.jpg[/t] The entire tapered part of the ship ahead of the hull-mounted cannon is autoloaders and ammunition. This thing fires what is basically a tactical nuke every 0.3 seconds and can nail a DWG Sledge from 5 kilometers away, and can move at 20m/s forwards. I've rigged a second cannon the rear which I can hook up in about 20 seconds so I can flee and fire at the same time. Ramming prow on the front, just for kicks. And for maximum cheese, I've added repair tentacles and a docking station to the back, which holds a modified DWG Scrapper with the turret chopped off and repair tentacles in its place.

I don't make anything impressive in FtD. Good work.
This game was the shit, but all my ships when I used to play it looked like rebel captured fishing boats repurposed into launching fireworks in protest. Gonna try and build some cool ship now.
Cool ships are overrated when you can have a sinking pillbox that crashes to the bottom and fires huge 16 block torpedoes that annihilate everything that doesn't fly :v:
Glad to see this thread isn't dead, now I can show off my crappy ship/s! [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/702912342274039253/D2F9BC1B186EC508C7B59608160D701395982286/[/t] Also two fully functional subs that I spent hours getting the AI to play nice with [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/702912342274050192/810749E4D1E59CA4CDBA399BB282D7A4A7561733/[/t] This was my first attempt at one, so I mostly spent my time trying to get it to work instead of working on looks. With AI control it dives by itself to -60m and hovers around there with excellent pathing. It has 5 vertical missiles and 2 front facing torpedos. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/702912342274050325/74543F55CC426AF9A6C16CCDC5E5271022A3CDB9/[/t] And this is the bigger badder one I made using everything I learned from making the first one, while making the crucial components more compact. This one has fully working AI as well and is armed with 16 vertical missiles, 4 torpedos on each side and 4 front facing torpedos. I had a lot of fun balancing out the weight and making it heavy enough to sink, while tuning the airpumps enough to allow it to climb vertically without moving/remain stationary at a desired depth.
Can anyone explain to me why my cannon won't fire? I built it according to the guides and stuff, and it usually works, put a fire control station in my bridge. It could aim, but it wouldn't fire. Has the mechanics for things working changed in odd ways? It seems like I just cant make guns work anymore.

You do need the vanilla boxes as well as the ap or he modifiers, they don't do the same job. Ammo barrels somewhere on your construct?

Then again, could it be that even with 10k ammo that my cannon does not have enough ammo to fire? I made the caliber huge. And added shitloads of autoloaders with ammo boxes and both fragmenting and explosive thingies connected.

Just made my way through the tutorials and I'm about to start making in the vehicle designer before tackling campaign. Fell off the fortress in the tutorial and sank like a rock before I realised you can sorta fly. Full on panic mode engaged. I hate the sea.
You'll hate it more once giant sea creatures are added. :v:
IIIRC, the developers canceled sea creatures (or put them on the backburner) in favor of more military stuff. I know the intro loading screen used to show a bunch of dudes fighting a giant leviathan, but now it's a top down view of a sea battle.
Yeah the sea creatures are technically, mechanically, and artistically challenging to implement. I mean where do you even start?
You'll hate it more once giant sea creatures are added. :v:
My imagination was doing enough for me as is.
Since this thread's back again, here's some thing I made a while ago. The problems with it currently are twofold: It doesn't generate enough lift to stay level when the nose is pointed level, and it can't pitch and roll at the same time. Also owing to it's size it has limited vertical manoeuvrability before it begins to hit space. Weapons-wise it's rather overkill; the cannon shreds everything and the AI-controlled laser is a menace at extreme ranges. The missiles are just for when i'm too lazy to aim with the cannon. Have never really decided on a good paintjob for it.

Also that means the name of the game doesn't make sense anymore.
Also that means the name of the game doesn't make sense anymore.
Well there are still submarines coming from the depths. :v: [editline]14th August 2015[/editline]
Since this thread's back again, here's some thing I made a while ago.
How do you get the custom jets to work? I can't figure the things out.
Intake -> controller -> compressor -> injector -> exhaust iirc. Make sure they're facing the right way. The little additions are optional (cept you do need at least one fuel injector addon), but greatly increase power and fuel efficiency.

I wish there was a way to mass replace with nothing because i accidentally hit F when putting down some lead blocks and my ship just went *thrrp* and gone.
Or at least an undo button
Man, I'm fucking hooked. I bought this during the Summer Sale and didn't read fuck-all about it -- jumped in to a random scenario, couldn't figure out how to play it, got frustrated and uninstalled it. Now I came across this thread; and I gleefully watched that Robbaz video which encouraged me to try this game out again. I've been having loads of fun so far -- even playing the campaign on co-op is a hoot. Everything I build sucks, but I am definitely getting better. It's satisfying to see how my designs slowly evolve over time. So far, I can build a stable AI-Controlled ship with a single AI-Controlled turret that works. It's not great by any means, but it works! [thumb]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/1457265578242730598/6F1225A8B84B76F7DD7654E03A2E03BA970E836F/[/thumb]
