Does this game feel like a complete game already? I'm super interested in a scary game that doesn't feel cheap but I also don't want it to feel unfinished.
It is completely finished from beginning to end. You will find lots of hours into it. I had about 7-8 hours before even reaching the third location.
Just got the game last night and played for a couple of hours. Played the prologue and ended my run at the start of day five. This has been the surprise hit of the year for me, not really knowing too much about Darkwood aside from seeing in on the steam storefront from time to time.
I think the gameplay in this really suits the narrative and theme, and that's what's really got me hooked. I love exploring during the day time, finding vital supplies and new location; and nighttime is super tense. The sound design and general look of the game are awesome and it really helps set the mood and lay on the horror when it needs too.
How long was it in early access?
Aprox. 3.5 - 4 years.
all the content has been finished as far as i know, it's maybe a little buggy at times but definitely a whole game.
your character doesn't need to eat, sleep or drink. you find all the necessary materials just by exploring, you don't need to fuck around cutting down trees or grind for anything - the only resource you'll die without is gas, which again you find plenty of by just exploring and going through the main plot.
the crafting is more like a story element than anything else. it's very simple and direct, and largely just there to stop you from becoming too strong before you're supposed to be. the closest thing to micromanagement is upgrading your workbench to make more complex stuff, but you get the tools for that just by progressing through the story or exploring major locations. very little of the loot is randomized.
Quick correcting - it is completely possible to survove without gas. I never use the generator, it only draws unwanted attention :D
If shadows come for your butt, just drop a flare and you're okay.
i've reached the second hideout and stayed there for two nights so far. i heard somewhere a trader lets you move your inventory from the 1st hideout's workbench to the 2nd hideout. when can you do this?
the game is phenomenal so far. i hope it gets more attention because it really deserves it.

Oh my god you can store items on a workbench? I've just left a colossal pile of shit on the floor.

There's an item in the second hideout that allows this.
[sp]A bike bell. I believe you find it in a pile of clothes, if memory serves.[/sp]
Yep workshops have a ton of inventory space to store all your shit in.

also the trader grabs everything from your 1st hideout that's in a container, it doesn't have to be on the workbench

Quick note though - if he finds any alcohol when packing your things, dont expect to have it back :v

I learned that the hard way
so is there any way to [sp]non-violently get the Elephants' kid from the Granny if the villagers aren't at the quarry?[/sp]

[sp]Point to the door at first, then show her the drawings you picked up in the kids room. Skips the side quest and she stays alive.[/sp]
Without giving anything away (like say yes/no, and then maybe in spoiler tags elaborate further), can someone tell me if there's a point to hording shiny stones? They've filling up my storage, so I'm thinking of just selling them, though if they serve an actual purpose other than giving me something to spend then I think I would rather hold onto them.

When I first used it I thought it was so great. So creative.

[sp]On it like a Nun in Cucumber-Field, Boss![/sp]
Update; game is still alright.
However most of the time I'm just aimlessly wandering about until something interesting happens. Wolfman told me about a Pig Farm and something or other, so I went over there and stopped the squealing. Now what?
I dont remember if he said anything else beyond that or what is even my overarching goal.
You mean you missed the part where your guy goes into a monologue and shares his desires to set up a nice lemonade stand and live off the fat of the land? :buckteeth:
e: he wanted a key from that place
Anyone who beat chapter 2 and went into the Epilogue, could you shoot me a PM? On the Wiki we don't have info on it yet and its gonna take a while for me to get there, so help would be appreciated.
The backer rewards arrived today!!! I was surprised at how fast it was :) The package was very beautiful, a nice box with the logo. Everything was super well packaged, too.

A shirt, a little book with 2 CDs in it (Soundtrack and physical copy of the game, i believe), 2 copies of the Strategy Guide, a signed poster, a kickass T-shirt and the Art Book.

This is the CD book. The letters's negative space is printed in golden, raised letters; and there is a little piece of wood embossed into it. This is seriously the nicest-looking cover i have ever seen.

Behind the poster, some signatures! Very nice, especially Szurek's one <3 (if you don't know this yet, he is their pet dog)
And the art book. Ooh, the art book. It alone would have honestly been worth all the money. Beautiful drawings, printed in high-quality photo paper.
I didn't think it would be possible for me to like Darkwood and the devs even more, but here we are :D
Is this game worth picking up? I've seen quite a few positive opinions on it, but never got around to playing it.

IMO, the best indie title i ever bought.

If you like horror games you need to play it. One of the most intense horror games I've ever played. And I played lots of them.
I'm a super pussy when it comes to horror games, but this game is keeping me playing despite being one of the scariest.
Little issue i have though is a lack of wood, anyone else only have like 1 place to get wood in the area around their hideout?
christ i want to play this game but i'm a total fucking scaredy cat and i just know i'd shit out all of my internal organs at the first sight of the supernatural
There are moments in this game that definitely reach terrifying heights. Last time I played I encountered [sp]the pig[/sp] and it was one of the most memorable and unnerving experiences I've had in a game recently.
While sometimes I'm not completely sure of which way to go, or what to set my goals upon, I just find the sense of exploration very rewarding and explore a little bit each day. I like finding scary or unsettling areas, new enemies, and good loot and it's compelling enough. There's actually a few locations near the first hideout I didn't fully explore as much as the silent woods.
So apparently to get the door code for the [sp]wedding[/sp] you need to [sp]answer the door when someone knocks at night?[/sp] [sp]I had that happen, but i was too scared to open the door. Does anyone know if i completely missed out, or will it happen again?[/sp]
I really wanna pick this game up. To put into perspective how big a pussy I am: I couldn't continue to play Dying Light because night time spooked me too much, and I couldn't deal with the constant blood pressure spikes. 7 Days To Die, I got super spooked at nighttime and noises makes me run like the wind, Prey is another game I really wanted to play but I'm 100% certain I'd shit myself playing it.
I keep telling myself "this is a top down game with pixel-y art, how bad can it be?" but reading all the posts in here, I'm not sure if I've got a big enough pair of balls to hack it.
I didn't know the game had a day/night mechanic and hoy boy was that a surprise.
Public Service Announcement: the developers themselves have put the game up for free torrent on Pirate Bay, no strings attached, at the bottom of this post. check it out if you don't want to pay for a game you might not have the guts to play. i don't think it counts as warez in this case.

Super sweet of them, although please guys, if you end up enjoying it and you have the cash to spare, support the team <3
Also: here's the official Wiki , real useful shit, never linked here before (at least i think it hasn't been). Epilogue and final release content still lacking, but i see some people here that could benefit from our Beginner's Guide there :)
Feel free to contact the staff if you need anything, the Wiki is small enough that we can pay attention to every single comment :D
Happy exploring!
The game better sell like hotcakes. They deserve everything. 3 1/2 years of development.
