What I was wondering was how does it function in game as "automatic" option, and does it differ (functionally) from motor brake (which I use a lot)? [editline].[/editline] I didn't realise there was an automatic motor brake option either, but I assume that operates when you lift off the accelerator, simulating petrol engine braking.
Jesus christ i need this Money saving initiated
So in other words this should help stop from just accelerating mindlessly to 105 km/h even with the speed limiter?
I hope, going downhill on some of the exits in this game pushes your truck's speed up so fast I have to brake multiple times almost fully to avoid issues.
I hope, going downhill on some of the exits in this game pushes your truck's speed up so fast I have to brake multiple times almost fully to avoid issues.
I use the engine brake for that. In fact I only use the normal brake when coming to a complete stop.
If I'm in top gear at top speed and start going down a hill, would it be better to just keep my foot planted on the throttle or to shift into neutral?
If I'm in top gear at top speed and start going down a hill, would it be better to just keep my foot planted on the throttle or to shift into neutral?
Logically speaking, it probably won't make a difference. If you have the speed limiter on, the engine isn't putting out power over 90 km/h, so I guess you would be in neutral essentially. And in neutral you're not in any gear (duh). If you mean to slow yourself down, neither would. If anything, you should be using the engine brake.
Do the trucks in this game have a jake brake?
Do the trucks in this game have a jake brake?
Yes they do. I can't remember what key its bound to by default.
Have had a few deliveries smooth sailing. And then, while driving from Amsterdam to Belgium, it crashed on clear skies. [editline]6th February 2013[/editline] It happened 4-5 minutes after driving through a quick rain shower while crossing a bridge outside Amsterdam. I think the rain on screen produces some sort of video memory leak or something. Sending Nvidia a ticket.
Can someone tell me what is "automatic retarder" in the options?
Okay, I think I found out the answers to my question. Firstly, it's a transmission retarder, so you buy the new "R" type transmission to use it. Secondly, when I tried the automatic option it doesn't have any effect on coasting, so I guess it is used only to augment normal braking. [editline]7th February 2013[/editline]
I didn't realise there was an automatic motor brake option either, but I assume that operates when you lift off the accelerator, simulating petrol engine braking.
And to clarify, I just tested "automatic" motor brake out of curiosity and it too only augments regular braking, it does not engage when you lift off the accelerator. (At least with automatic gearbox. I don't use manual gears since I only have a gamepad and I'm too retarded to operate that many things with my hands. :v:)
Completed my delivery to Brussels. I managed to pull over onto the shoulder and stop in the black screen before Alt-F4ing out. Fortunately the game seems to save your state all the time.

Holy crap this is fun with TrackIR.
Fom the jerky steering it looks like you're using a gamepad... Change your control setting from "wheel" to "gamepad/joystick".
I want to get a racing wheel but they're expensive and space consuming :(
Does anyone else go two gears up when shifting up at low speed? The increments are just too small, giving you way too much dead time when shifting.
Does anyone else go two gears up when shifting up at low speed? The increments are just too small, giving you way too much dead time when shifting.
Depends how quickly you can shift and how powerful your truck is.
I want to get a racing wheel but they're expensive and space consuming :(
I got a Logitech MOMO, older style wheel but it was only around $40 or $50 on eBay I think.

There is a bit of play in the wheel before the springs take effect, but the game still picks it up.

Ah, my mistake :downs:
Dunno what to say, then. Here is a photo of my setup:
WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THAT 5.1 OH GOD.
Holy crap this is fun with TrackIR.
I've been dying to get my hands on TrackIR for quite some time, but i honestly don't even care for it much anymore, looking as how Oculus Rift is progressing. I'd much rather want me one of those.
Dunno what to say, then. Here is a photo of my setup:
WATCH THE FUCKING ROAD MAN!
Does anyone have a workign speed limit remover? All the ones i can fidn don't make my Vovlo Globetraveller go over 90.

Some manufacturers even count 6 or 8 pairs of half gears instead of 12 full gears. In the older Actros trucks, it'd work something like this: Take off in 3 low, shift to 4 high, 5 high, 6 low, 6 high.. (those are probably not the actual gears you'd use in reality; it's just an example). What ETS2 is getting wrong imho is that it's almost impossible to pull away in any gear but the first, whereas in reality you'd really only use 1st gear when taking off uphill with a full load.

But they definitely changed something in the way the sequential transmission works in the 1.3 update. Its actually very realistically possible to kill your engine in anything but first whereas in the last version, you could try to start in any gear and the worse that would happen is the truck doesn't move.
I stalled my truck by switching from reverse to first too quickly.
