Since you can't shift all that fast in a real truck, skipping gears is the usual practice. Some manufacturers even count 6 or 8 pairs of half gears instead of 12 full gears. In the older Actros trucks, it'd work something like this: Take off in 3 low, shift to 4 high, 5 high, 6 low, 6 high.. (those are probably not the actual gears you'd use in reality; it's just an example). What ETS2 is getting wrong imho is that it's almost impossible to pull away in any gear but the first, whereas in reality you'd really only use 1st gear when taking off uphill with a full load.
I use the Scania mapping with the two toggles (G27 Shifter), so naturally you skip though the Odd or Even sets of gears. I haven't played since the update. But with no trailer I always pulled away in 2nd or 3rd?
Man I really need a Speed Limit remover. The trucks not going over 90 is so weird. Also, whats the differnece between the gearboxes?
Paris hates me. I hit every single red light every time.
Why do cars who pass the white line (and got like 1/4 into the intersection) stop if the light turns yellow???? This irritates me to no end.
Oh god, I just got stuck in a ditch, I tried disconnecting the tanker to get free which didn't work so when I reconnected it I did a triple somersault through the air and landed with only 17% damage. Good thing this game is realistic.
If you had gotten a video of that, you would have been golden.
I tried getting a screenshot but I was really bewildered and wasn't fast enough.
Those Scania's get twitchy over 55... Leaned over my wheel to take a screenshot, nudged the wheel, [t]http://i.imgur.com/Zlbh1xG.jpg[/t] Overcorrected and rolled it, taking out car passing me. [t]http://i.imgur.com/GUKr1UG.jpg[/t] 3 hours later, I was back on the road, and staring at the scenery instead of the lines again. You know how world war two planes had markings on the side for how many opponents were shot down? I've got something like that, but with speeding tickets.
I haven't really looked but it'd be cool if there was a mod that showed you the speed limit for the road you are on and the area you are in, probably be hard to pull off but it'd be easier to know what they want you to go, sometimes the signs are so few and far between.
Yeah, I get most of my speeding tickets just pulling into town, when I have to slow down from 90km/h to 50 in the space of like 30 meters (it's hard as hell doing these conversions in my head)

if I'm passing the town and not having to deal with those terrible stupid red lights and 90 degree turns I just eat the ticket and keep going 140 km/h. [editline]7th February 2013[/editline] #fuckthepolice #yolo
I usually like to play realistically but yeah sometimes I just floor it.
Never thought I'd drink through 1400 Litres of fuel so fast. And refilling from almost empty to full costs a good 2000 Euro.
Maybe I'm too dumb to use the clutch then.
Don't worry I am too
I had no problem with it in a real truck, so that's why I'm complaining about ETS2. Without a trailer you can easily just take off without touching the accelerator pedal in a real truck. The thing is, I believe ETS wants to simulate the fact that in modern trucks the engine torque is reduced in lower gears to minimize clutch wear. Or maybe it's not even dependent on the gears in today's trucks but on whether the clutch is fully engaged or not. Either way they're doing it wrong in ETS2, because a real truck has much more torque at idle than in ETS. I have a feeling that what ETS does is, as soon as you start pulling off, it lowers the engine's power output per % of throttle, instead of limiting the max power. So as long as the clutch is not yet fully engaged, you need full throttle to get moving, but as soon as you let go of the clutch pedal, you need to step off the gas pedal as well. I believe that's what makes it so weird to handle.
Bro yo need to get yo shifts in order, that truck has no torque at those RPMs
I wasn't paying too much attention to the engine, was watching for cars and lights ahead. I'm getting better at moving through the gears quickly and in the right range. I don't have my own truck yet, so I'm driving whatever the job provides. Quite a few different vehicles there, and they all have their quirks.
You shouldn't have to watch your gauges, listen to the engine to time your shifts
Yeah, I listen. But the engine sound is kinda quiet, especially when the blinkers are on. Those things are crazy loud.
Engine is relatively quiet for me aswell. Really annoying since even if i max sound settings my ears get raped by everything but the engine. :v:
Its just the interior engine sound is way too quite. If you stick your head out the window it becomes several times as loud.
I don't think sticking your head out the window to hear if the engine needs shifting is entirely viable. :v:
Which countries are featured in ETS2?
Goddamnit :v:
Which countries are featured in ETS2?
Germany, Some of France, England and some of Scotland + Wales, Switzerland, Austria, one city from Slovakia, a couple from the Czech Republic and a few cities in Poland, they are making a new content pack that adds more Polish cities.
