I wonder if there'd be a way to link both ETS2 and ATS so your truck company could grow using both games, or even visit the america's, do you guys think that'd be possible?
Damn everything is so much more detailed in American truck sim
SCS have already added a rudimentary persistence layer in the form of "World of Trucks".
You can take WoT jobs in either game, and the statistics of these jobs is saved to your online profile.
For example, this is my profile at the moment (note I haven't found a way of uploading my trucks' stats to WoT):

Though I don't really focus on WoT jobs right now.
SCS say they have many more plans for WoT, and it's in its infancy at this point.
How big are the state maps? Namely Nevada?
It's no secret that the playable area is quite small at the moment, the entire map is probably comparable in size to just the UK or Germany in ETS2.
having said that, the level of detail on the map is about on par with, or even better than the Scandinavia DLC. There is definitely a focus on quality over quantity here.
Also, I believe SCS have mentioned they are not done with Nevada yet, and Arizona is on the way 'soon' as a free update. They also mentioned on Squirrel's livestream that New Mexico and Texas are planned next after that, and they fully intend to just keep going with it.

Paid or free?
I'm mostly interested in desert/plains highways, so I was hoping Nevada didn't get the short end of the stick. Sounds like the next few states are mostly going to be desert-focused anyways.
Have they said anything about how the state updates work? Are they going to charge per state? If so, what happens if I buy Montana but don't own Wyoming and Utah to connect everything?
It's kind of silly that the big boxy flat nosed trucks aren't in at launch. Nothing says America like a giant brick wall on wheels.

Well looks like they'll be in soon enough though.

This is the first thing I pictured when I heard that American Truck Simulator was a thing.
Yeah that's the truck I'm waiting for as well.
Pavel didn't elaborate on whether NM/Texas will be free or paid, just that it's the next they're focusing on. One thing he did mention though is the plan is the game with all map DLCs is not going to cost a huge amount - they're aiming for a total at around the cost of a full priced AAA game if you were to buy them all at launch each. He didn't clarify in stone, but the plan is any future paid DLCs will be a collection of states, not individuals. He mentioned that they have thought about non-connected states with future DLCs, but didn't elaborate on how they're approaching that.
[editline]2nd February 2016[/editline]
oh and one thing he let slip out that he didn't plan to reveal - they're in the middle of overhauling the engine to DX11.
In a past blog post they've said that Arizona would be free, and any map expansions afterwards would likely be paid, but that's not set in stone. So, in other words, expect the other regions of the US/North America to be paid DLCs, and be pleasantly surprised if any of them end up being free.
Rather disappointing that it's gonna be like that. ATS is so bare bones that it get's kinda boring.
So are there no left-turn arrow's at red lights? Because if not that's a HUGE oversight because it makes making left turns in dense traffic literally impossible.
They're super common all over the US so if they didn't add left-turn arrows I'm going to be baffled.
Supposedly you get ticketed rather heavily if you go 2 mph over the speed limit.
I keep remembering other things :v:
ETS2 is also getting the rest of France soon, with a focus on the Riviera. I don't recall for certain, but I think it's going to be free.
Supposedly you get ticketed rather heavily if you go 2 mph over the speed limit.
To be fair there are cops who will ticket like that. The town over from me will pull you over and issue tickets for speeds like that, it's bullshit.
Typically cops won't ticket CDL drivers if they don't have too because if they get too many tickets they'll lose their CDL and their livelyhood.

I'd say it's much better than the detail in the scandinavia dlc

When I clicked on new upgrades I saw that there are also volvo upgrades underneath peterbilt and kenworth, is that a bug or is there actually a volvo truck in game?
It's really apparent the game is made by foreigners. Like, a lot of spelling isn't Americanized like they call it a "Bank Centre" when in reality it's just a bank or a "bank center" but I've never heard anyone call it that.
Also are $1000 speeding tickets something that truck drivers often get? Because it seems way excessive to me.
And no left-turn arrows was such a huge oversight.

They've got a Volvo truck modeled and ready to go, they just meed to sort out the licensing before they can add it in. There are a couple of trucks like that. Hopefully now that it's released and selling copies, the manufactures will loosen up about licensing their trucks.

Apparently this was found in the files. Guess this suggests Utah, Colorado and New Mexico as the next states after Arizona's added? I guess we'll see.
I'm also assuming whoever uploaded the imaged changed the colors to highlight the new routes, but I could be wrong.
Same thing happened to ETS2 when it first released, took them a while to get the licenses from truck manufacturers.
I'm not a fan of the amount of classic cars either. Like every fifth car you see on the road is a old 1940's pickup truck or 1950 sedan.
It's California, not Cuba. It's rare as shit to see cars like that in the US because only collectors or hobbiest have them.
Is it just me, or is there a serious lack of speed limit signs. I keep going 55 in 30 mph zones because I have no idea that the speed limit had changed.
Also got fined for not getting my truck's weight checked because the prompt came up as I went past the service station

I have that issue too. Unless I stare at my GPS I end up going 35 in 30 zones when I get into towns and get slapped with $1000 fines.
Sometimes it'll go 55 - 30 - 40 really quickly and you'll get nailed with a fine because of what I assume is a bug with the speed zones
Lack of speed signs is one of my biggest issues too. Wouldnt be so bad if the tickets only came from cars on the side of the road but with the inclusion of patrolling cars that sneak up behind you it can make for a frustrating (and very expensive!) time.
I'm not constantly looking at the GPS, and by the time I do, I get a ticket.
Another gripe I have is how fast the wipers are animated on the Peterbilt (not sure about the Kenworth). They're also animated too fast for the sound so it looks completely odd!
If you look at the gps... it tells you the speed.
Someone should make a mod that makes the freight trains longer. Right now they're like five cars when in reality these things can be like a mile long.

The fines are pretty nazi atm. Was going 55, suddenly zone went to 30 and I got a $1000 fine, then it went back to 55, then back to 30. All within 10 seconds. Well, I didn't need that money anyway
I tried taking a picture of the golden gate bridge and the game crashed.

The Department of Homeland Security shut you down. Very realistic.
