I want to play but I literally cannot be bothered to stumble around the Japanese-filled menus.
My life is suffering.
You get use to it pretty quickly.
Muscle memory kicks in around the 2 hour mark, and is pretty much permanent by 20. You just gotta get started, and soon all your favorite boat-waifus will be yours.
I've been playing two days and I'm already picking up some of the Kanji for ships instead of navigating totally by faces.
This is it, this is how it happens. Hell of a way to learn Japanese but association is association.
Managed to lose Maya cause I clicked forward rather than retreat. Luckily she was only level 8 and I have 2 others, but it was a heartbreaking moment all the same.
I kept seeing this pop up in my friend's search history and it's literally boats with huge titties??
Could do worse I guess, full speed ahead mateys
didn't get prinz eugen :(
no graf for me :(

Wot dis?
Nevermind found it http://kancolle.wikia.com/wiki/Hishimochi
Today was a good day. Bismarck on first try with Z1, Taihou while trying for Yamato and then on the last LSC I could do today, Yamato decided to show up.
Now I got every LSC, except Mogami and some of the Agano-class.
Woohoo~. Just got to get Katori to make it smoother for my level up process now~
Oh god, Hishimochi again? It seemed like a pain to farm for last year, but I guess I'll go for it this year.
kancolle is coming to android soon™
If this thing was in English and a mobile game I'd probably play this at work.
Hopefully the mobile version won't be as restricted, otherwise it would just be a gimmick and not that worth it unless you really want to keep up your Orel and expedition farming at school/work too.
Having to use a proxy on phone, would be a real pain.
I see and wait for the results when it goes live.
even if i win the lottery i'll still wait a bit to make sure it's safe to use

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say I'm within the top 20% on the server because everyone is dead after trying to get graf. And it's probably gonna drop since I can't actually sortie today because I'm saving up for my first LSC.
Welp, got banned for refreshing when I was trying to complete 3-3. I tried over 30 times to try to get to the boss fight, but my fleet just. wouldn't. go. the. right. way. And before you say it, I looked at the pathing rules on the Wiki, my fleet composition was fine.
Yea, don't think I'm going to bother making another account, WAY too much RNG for my liking. The fact that they ban you for trying to make it less bullshit makes it worse. "Increases server load" my ass.

Though you have to give it to them, it is a fairly sophisticated and efficient bullshit RNG system with a very nice cover over it.
As soon as I figured out that you have zero control over combat aside from picking a formation beforehand I understood what this game was, you set your fleet out and then the server rolls the results, I'm not even sure they're live rolls for each attack and they may just all be rolled at the start of the encounter and then just visually play out for your own entertainment. In which case this would require actually very little server space since your only requirement is a big calculator with waifus in front of it that handles sortie results, drops, timers (which are so streamlined they don't actually bother the server to update with less than a minute to go, why do you think that 'bug' exists? because it would cost more server resources to 'fix') and resource income ticks (which doesn't even update live, you have to change windows to update it, which pokes the server and THEN you get your shit.)
So they very well may actually not have that much computing power on hand, hence the lottery to get in, and the region locking (for lots of other reasons in addition no doubt) and the --until now-- negative views on tablets. And for all the game is, being a F2P browser game, I don't think the monitization outlets are very good, they're there of course but they don't seem terribly attractive, and so they probably don't make that much money, despite the actually amazingly supportive and creative fanbase which is honestly I think is half the fun of playing the game.
And lets face it, in spite of the obviously shallow gameplay, for a F2P browser game this is already pretty lavishly decorated as it is and really, until they get their stuff together and make an actual conventional game out of this (which I have no doubt would fly off the shelves like nothing you have ever seen) all there is to do is throw some dice around and enjoy the show.

encounter rolls are made after formation is selected for battle nodes
kancolle players are under no delusion that the game is good. it's just a good time waster during boring lectures or while waiting in queue for MMOs
that and we're too far in to abandon our shipgirls
kancolle kai and kancolle arcade both have more gameplay elements (with kai being an turn based map resource hold type of game with similar combat to the browser game, and arcade letting you control the speed and direction of your ships)

the monitization isn't terrible for them
once you get decently into the game it'll pretty much be impossible to play without unlocking the 2 other repair slots and buying more slots for your ships
they make most of their money from merchandise anyway, because unlike most other f2p games A N I M E T I D D I E S
Ah, you see that's what I like to see. And it is a good timewaster and it's why I keep playing it.
However though, aside from LSC Ships that seem to suck up a billion resources to do anything, Honestly I think you can get around actually paying for shit just fine (which from a player standpoint is good) Though I will be looking to grind 2-5 to pick up Akashi and that third repair slot.
The only thing that stops me from playing is it seems the thing that stops everyone from playing, resource drain and ship repair times. I don't have the required specialized farming ships and equipment to make this as efficient as possible but I've gotten to work sending Tenryu and her daycare center of destroyers on Expedition 5 over and over again to give me shots of Fuel and Ammo (which just seems to be a thing everyone does and is expected of you to do.)
And my third fleet headed by Suzukaze (who I just like, even though she's not good at anything) and my first constructed destroyers: Sazanami, Murasame, and Yukikaze (who was the third ship I ever built and apparently I'm damn lucky to have her.) They run expedition 2 over and over again to give me a 50% dice roll at a Repair bucket every half-hour.
I call them the Bucket Brigade, and they keep my main fleet going. (and are also responsible for me being top loaded with Ammo currently, I attempted LSC for the first time and got an Agano-class light cruiser that I immediately junked because I'm damn certain that entire class is a joke. But, now I'm out of fuel and steel for today but I still have 7529 fucking ammo just sitting here.)
wait until the next event rolls in (spring should have iowa) and then you will see the true suffering with 15 hour battleship repair times

I was 'lucky' enough to get Fuso and Yamashiro as my first battleships, so I'm already halfway there. I just keep buckets handy for the both of them.
Either I'm lucky or someone thinks it's really fucking funny to give me all the oddball ships first. But I have a plan for Fuso.

I've actually started playing a different F2P WW2 themed time waster (this time with tank tiddies instead of ship tiddies) on my Android, and I'm shocked by how much more fun it is.
No long ass repair times, no threat of losing your moe permanently, an actual tech tree for things like ammo and armor, an actual moe tech tree so you don't have to try endlessly to get one moe, the ability to power level your moe with food and credits, battles actually look pleasing to the eye, ENGLISH TRANSLATION, the ability to skip battles you've already beaten, the ability to choose the length of your expedition goes on for, A STORY WITH ACTUAL CAMPAIGN MISSION AND CHARACTERS and the list goes on.
Like you said, the community is most of the fun of the game, but I never realized how bad the base game was until I played other F2P games.

Oh god I know that feel. That feel is fucking terrible.
[sp]Still, got her while trying to brute force 2-4, which I still haven't cleared.[/sp]
I didn't manage to get Prinz this event, so I guess it's back to level grinding on ships that need it. Time for as much 4-3 as my buckets will allow.
I wish they had a modern spin off. Modern ships are way cooler but I guess they lack the personality of WWII era ships.

Just sunk my first Kanmusu, a brave level 13 Sub-Girl 168 who mistakenly pushed on to World 3-C during training/tanking exercises.
RiP Sub-Girl, your twin sister(s) will miss you.
edit: Losing a kanmusu really should devastate that whole fleet's morale..
