waifu talk is 100% shooting the shit even with people who're eating up the r34. They're not EASY to spot but I know a few people have given off some pretty strong tells they're all up in the nsfw side of things, like recognizing cropped r34 from an artist-

I'd say that the majority of waifuism anywhere is just people playing up what characters they like.

I'm friends with slugbox and boy that's a ride, talked with him (in an interview for the deviant art thread) about how he deals with the social situations and it's never an issue

Same! And my experience so far has been really nice.
Nothing drives me more to give my best than a bunch of teammates thanking me post-game after a great series of support plays. Never really had that happen in TF2 or Smite.

People obsessing over various characters is something that happens primarily behind the scenes anyway. My biggest concern is how sporting other players will be. Nothing puts me off multiplayer more than toxicity.

[sp]draw what you want and take all the time you need, don't bend to what others say you need to do to make money or get popular. If you pursue a craft, being 'you' is the most important part of improving your work and making it it's own thing. Following templates and demands will get you stuck in a really formulaic and unrewarding rut (granted if you're just grinding for money it's pretty livable)[/sp]
as for mei, learn to ice wall. Like I said earlier she's a very underappreciated [i]disruptor[/i] in that she can use that wall to break apart enemies (separate that mercy from their tank!), cause people to lose valuable time getting to their objective, and getting teammates up into unusual places (placing it under somebody will lift them up, bastion can get to some nice perches this way).
You can ambush and competently 1v1 people who've wandered off the beaten path (get behind enemy lines and pick off people running back to the fight), and can bait people into using their ultimates or other skills on cooldown, only to go invulnerable with the ice cube
