I'm going to play S:76, Hanzo, Roadhog or Lucio depending on the team composition

Or am I just salty? She felt really powerful in 1v1 for me with certain heroes.

Reaper is a counter to Mei, she can be annoying but generally if you keep wraith form saved for a 1v1 encounter you'll come up on top. Even more so if she hides in her iceburg because you'll have a shotgun aimed right at her face and those things are the biggest damage dealers up close. A massive 140 damage if all pellets hit point blank.

Mei would be a lot less obnoxious if her cryo had half a second or so of vulnerable recovery so you couldn't use it in a poor position and still make everyone fight you a second time.

But against everyone else is it fair? I know the game has its whole rock, paper, scissors thing like tf2, but it seemed like her freezing could stop almost everyone else before they could finish her off. Add the ice shield into the mix and its like you did nothing at all.
I never really played her because I felt she would be an annoying hero to play against, so take my viewpoint with a grain of salt.

Do you know how much damage you can do in the fractions of a second it takes her to turn around?

her cryo freeze heal isn't some godlike ability that can be activated anywhere to ensure a second chance at an engagement

Honestly i think the balance is comfortable.
The important thing is to understand who exactly is the best to deal with what, and then it depends on the skill level of both your opponent and yourself. There are ways of avoiding those counters.

For example, a poor widowmaker can slaughter as many people as they like but when someone switches to reaper and is good at reaper , they'll absolutely destroy them.

A good widowmaker would have an escape plan or means of getting out of the line of fire to get to a better sniping position.

Another instance,in most cases when a bastion appears of the field there are multiple strategies on taking him out. Genji can bait a Bastion into hailing him with minigun fire and follow up with sword deflections, which is useful when a bastion is pinning down a frontal assault and it's difficult for reaper to flank them, either because Reaper is countered by another hero.

I just hope as the game develops we don't end up having a hero that subverts this design philosophy.

I might complain less about Mei if her slow from her primary was more of a linear speed debuff than instantly at half your speed so you can't get away from her no matter what.

Unless someone is using a controller anyone can turn faster than a character can move, ignoring tracer blinks. Also her primary fire makes hitting someone even easier because you don't need to be pinpoint accurate. Also also helping even more is the slowdown from the ice itself.
