As someone who worked at a GameStop for 2.5+ years, mature ratings have a surprisingly large impact on sales if it isn't a Call of Duty game.

I don't remember any of them. I stayed in the little bubble known as the garrison for 98% of the expansion. The Legions beta is alright, but I'm not impressed enough to preorder and renew my sub to play it.

Look at the latest Halo. Lots of shooting and fairly mature scenes/themes, but the lack of blood and gore awarded it a T rating.

I think that can be excused because of their armor. Not very many people in this game are running around with full suits of armor.

Kinda. There are smart parents that never let their kids get M rated games.
T is just a guarantee of sales though. M could get sales like GTA and TF2, but T is like the PG or PG 13 rating, just open for all enough to guarantee sales.
The animations writing is awful, really the worst one out of all them. This is the first one where I really agreed with the complaints. It's bad.

The actual gameplay itself isn't canon anyways, wouldn't bother much.
But yeah, thought it was a graphical error at first when enemies didn't project blood like in the previews until I found out myself that it was cut.

That blood effect looks pretty bad though. Something looks off about it and doesn't fit. Blood and gibs could have been a nice touch to the game if done right, but that doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the game. It's great without it.

I can see how that would excuse the lack of blood. But when you look at the franchise's past regarding blood and gore it doesn't make sense for it to suddenly vanish and still keep the more "mature" story content in place :v:
Add blood later as a free DLC. So the game can still be rated T. But the people that want blood can have it.
They should at least have Bastion & Zenyatta spew oil since robot genocide is perfectly fine in cartoons.

I don't understand at all how it's "giving up creative freedom" to have PG violence and no blood. It's just a business going for the safe route to market a game. Go for the rating that makes certain everyone will be able to play it.
